New Player Lost

Hey,

So I am a new player just starting out…The new updated introduction is great for showing us the controls of the game… However once that ends and it becomes “open” there is no explanation to anything anymore, and the community will not help as we are “noobies”.
So, what I mean is that upon the end of the tutorial section, there is no explanation how to travel to other sections/worlds as well as any explanation on cooking and fishing and other important aspects to completing post-intorductory quests.

Personally, I feel unsupported as a new player…The game benefits old players way more. I am lost and even googling or asking on servers for help just gets me ridiculed.

All I’m wanting is an explanation or brief tutorial on the basics of advancing in this game instead of being shown the controls and assuming I know everything else after that.

Thanks,
Maxx

I haven’t done the new player experience in SL, but you should see Chromie on the map in Orgrimnar, Go to her Jump into chromie time and level through an expansion. I suggest BFA for your first character it was the previous expansion with the best graphics and most streamlined, and story is tied to Shadowlands.

There are a massive amount of you tube videos on all things WoW and these current issues you have. Run searches for WoW shadowlands new player tips. WoW shadowlands new player leveling, WoW marksmanship hunter guide, etc. read the icy veins MM hunter class guide for optimal rotation and talents.

WoW is incredibly open ended, and for many players that can be overwhelming.

I am sorry you are getting that treatment, that’s highly unfair. Blizzard ought to do a campaign to have players be nicer to new players. Perhaps just a series of PSAs.

Anyways, to answer your questions. First things first, familiarize yourself with the capital city. Orgrimmar for Horde, and Stormwind for Alliance. Where did you last log off? Look up Orgrimmar. Orcs start off in the zone Durotar, and you area very near Orgrimmar. That is on the continent of Kalimdor in the zone Durotar. Orgrimmar is THE major hub for players. Go up to a guard inside Orgrimmar, and there will be a list of things. Clicking on each will give you a location of the things. Go down the list and go exploring the city. This is also where you will run into professions: main professions, gathering professions, cooking, fishing everything. As you come up to them, you can google what they are or how they work. For example, Auction House should be first on screen. Google “how to use auction house wow gamepedia” and click the wow gamepedia link (it’s the most recent one). Go up there, mess around it, learn about it. Go down the list. There’s too much things to talk about, but it can be a good way to familiarize yourself with new things.

Regarding traveling… Familiarize yourself with the map and continents. The main one is Azeroth. Pull up the map and right click to see the whole world. In the upper left there’s tab that categorizes everything. The main modes of transportation are Portals and Zepplins (Horde)/Ships (Alliance). As Horde, you can find a Zepplin to Northrend, to Southern Eastern Kingdoms, to Northern Eastern Kingdoms. You take a portal to Pandaria. There’s also Portals to all these

Orgrimmar has a portal room in the bottom part of the city (as you enter the city there is a portal room on right side - Google Orgrimmar portal room if you are having trouble). Zepplins are in the smack middle of the city, and you have to take an elevator to get up there.

To traverse within continents you will have to discover flight paths. If you look at the map, you will see an icon of boots with wings. That is a flight path. You have to go into that zone, come up to the flight path, and click on it. With all the existing flight paths you can pay a small fee (very very very cheap) to fly between zones inside a continent.

Another mode of transportation are mounts and flying mounts. You will get those at 20 and 30 respectively, you have to pay for the ability, and also the mount. You can buy a racial mount from the trainers. Orgrimmar trainer is in the middle of the city, next to the Zepplins. Orgrimmar zepplins are right in the middle of the city, and you have to take elevators to the get to the area.

Cooking and fishing. Ask the guard to show you where cooking/fishing trainer is. Pay to learn the two. For cooking, you will find meat. Open the professions tab (k default I think). Open the cooking window. It will show mats you need to cook the item. It starts off simple, just meat off wolves (outside of Orgrimmar can kill wolves) or eggs off birds. You have to do it over a fire. In the professions tab you can start a fire.

For fishing, you need a fishing rod. There’s also a fishing ability. Put fishing ability on your hotbar. Find a body of water. Press the fishing ability. Wait for your bobber to move and make a sound. Click on the bobber as that happens (its very forgiving, you’ll get it).

From here one, let me offer you a recommendation. Go to the Warchief’s board in Orgrimmar, and pick a place to quest in. They will start off the chain of quests to get you to a new area. This will teach you how to get there. I recommend doing Legion, but doing BfA is very popular right now and where Blizzard prefers you go. This will take you to a new continent, new city, that has an easy to find portal. The quests will teach you about going there. In Dalaran, you will be given a new Hearthstone, that will always take you to that city. This will familiarize you with nuances of travelling. In the new city of Dalaran, do the same thing with guards you did before to learn things. You will also notice you need to learn “Legion cooking” and “legion fishing” from there. New expansions require you go to the new major hub to learn those things (as a general rule). Don’t worry too much about nuances of traveling. Instead, follow the quests to hit level 50. In your milestones, learn mount traveling (20) and flying (30). At max level, start exploring the wider world to your desire. With flying it’ll be much easier and you can go everywhere without problems.

If you so desire, you can also do the BfA questline which will also help with such things, I just personally prefer the Legion one. The two are very formulaic and will teach you the nuances of traveling and exploring.

  • Look up on youtube " World of Warcraft Complete Beginner Guide (Retail)" by Dottz Gaming

  • Look up “wow gamepedia auction house” for a wiki where they discuss the auction house (this is an example of how to look up those things). ALso apologies for no links, I can’t link on the forums.

  • Also go to wowhead.com for specifics - where to find a certain item, look up certain quests, etc.

For any new questions, you are more than welcome to come to this forum and everything. You can also proceed to put any question you have here.

Feel free to add me @ mortredx#1171 if you need help.

I recommend two gathering professions while leveling, herbalism and mining. I personally wouldn’t do crafting, fishing, cooking, etc., unless you like it more than combat, questing, raiding, dungeons, gearing, leveling characters, etc., as there is an opportunity cost.
