New player looking for advice

I did play wow 2004-2006 and so I have some context and notice some changes.
I also at times misremember that some things were in Classic, but they never actually were.

About current Classic Era:

  1. I see a ‘Focus’ keybinding of some sort, but I can’t seem to figure out how to use Focus. I heard it wasn’t in original WoW, but as per the keybinds that mention it, is there a workaround or macro to set/watch a focus target?

  2. Is there a good option to see enemy debuffs or the swipe/timer on icons- enemy and ally?

  3. When I’m killing 2-3 mobs and one dies and I want to select the next mob with my mouse because I don’t have an ability with /startattack baked in that is ready, I find that mouse clicking always prioritizes looting the mob on the ground. I don’t remember this being a problem I dealt with back in the day. I don’t deal with this in modern WoW/DF. What am I missing here?

  4. Is getting keyed to content still a thing? I see conflicting advisory on Google, but I never see people trying to put groups together in /4 chat that explicitly say “ony key quest” or anything, whereas I remember that being common back in the day.

  5. I still have never seen anyone wearing the Red Dragonscale Deflector in SW. It’s a drop off Vael in BWL which was often where prog guilds hit a wall. Is that dps check/wall still up, explaining why I never see the shield? Is it just lower droprate than in og WoW? Is there something better that’s easier to get? https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=19348/red-dragonscale-protector

Any other advice you think I could use, please let me know. Assume I don’t know anything that’s been discovered about Classic WoW since 2006.
Holy Paladin main spec, but can play all.

Depending on your class it is worth making a macro to bake start attack into an ability.

molten core, Onyxia, BWL, and naxx have attunements.

There are lots of better shields used.

Most groups can kill vael without much issue if the are a decent comp as many players now outgear BWL.

The loot instead of attack is a new issue I also run into, you can get around this by have a start attack macro into a spell, similar to how hitting sinister strike will make rogues attack (if you use something like judgement you should create 2 spells, 1 with 1 without)

Yes just called ony attunement quest, same with MC.

Not sure how they are on Mankirk, but on Whitemane they are doing them often.

This is specific to TBC+ meaning formerly TBC / Wrath and presently Cata; you can ignore focus macro for Era; we don’t have them.

Target of target is as close as you can get, that will not always deliver the results you desire tho.

Addons from Curseforge and other sources

not sure about Mankirk but its common on Whitemane.

Thank you.

I guess I didn’t complete my thought on the /startattack-
I have /startattack macro’d into all my attack spells and even my seals, but paly doesn’t really spam anything so it doesn’t really help. Super don’t remember looting getting in the way in OG WoW…

For attacks you can simply put /startattack as its own key press so that you don’t start attack when you don’t want / need that. There are times when you want to judge but not attack, so consider that.

yea, my style of play is I turn for those

There are times when you dont even want to start auto attack for “other” reasons.

How about GDKPs?

How much gold should I bring to gold DKPs if I want to win as much as I can at first?
As a Holy Paladin, how often do people pay me to come? I’ve seen that a handful of times in /4 chat so far
