New Player Experience: Will teenagers ever try WoW?

I am 44, been playing WoW on and off since 2005. I give private lessons to kids and adults, but sometimes kids/teenagers ask me what games I play? I say WoW.
They sometimes ask me to describe it, which can be a bit complicated. I like to casual PvP in BGs, but in MoP I could get a full set of conquest gear, relatively easily.
But PvP requires your toon to optimized a bit to even compete and then begins a long journey of skill building. Long journey….
But now it seems like it’s impossible for a new player to even get to near equal power to begin the learning process of BG PvP and arena PvP.
I ask myself, how could any teenager think they would pick WoW over another game that is pick up and play.
Any one agree?

Nah, mmo are a mostly dying genre and the only way to attract them seems to be with anime style gameplay, à la genshin or ffixv. WoW is downhill whatever they do, good or bad.

The game isn’t good for new players, regardless of age.

weird argument.

But yes, PvP shouldn’t have barriers of entry. That’s why Fortnite is so popular.

Fortnite is also free and crossplatform… at least give an example that is at least remotely similar…

That’s not a valid excuse for WoW considering you put FF 14 in the same argument.

WoW has primitive graphics (Yeah you can pretend all you want about “unique artstyle” but the fact is, most people laugh at the puny graphics in WoW), a primitive combat system and primitive limitations.

Zoomers don’t have the attention span for MMOs. They like lobby games that they can play for 15 minutes and see lots of bright colors and flashes before moving on to something else.

I’m kidding.

Mostly.

There’s like a million games on the market these days, with many of them f2p and available on their mobile device. No teenager is going to spend $15 of their chore/allowance money on this game, when all their friends are playing the f2p titles.

I love this game and still play it daily with my close friends, but in no way do I think WoW is welcoming to a younger generation.

There were many other games on the market when WoW came out. The problem is that Shadowlands is just not considered good.

I think anyone wanting to get into an mmo should have the idea that it is a long haul investment.

Don’t get me wrong, a new player can easily hop into pvp at under max level and enjoy themselves.

New players just have to realize once you hit max level, you gotta play the whole game to succeed in pvp (mileage may vary).

It’s not necessarily that MMOs are dying, but that there are so many entertainment options available.

Another consideration is that many teenagers don’t own, or have direct access to, a desktop computer. Only one of my kids has a desktop (and he plays WoW), the others have [non-gaming] laptops, but mostly use their phones and/or tablets. My oldest granddaughter uses a phone for almost everything, the youngest a tablet.

No. Teenagers won’t get into this game when the devs themselves are trying to kill it.

I’d say there’s a lot of teenagers playing right now. On Burning Crusade Classic. At least, that’s how a lot of them act

WOW probably won’t be the first choice for many new players. It has almost 17 years of baggage that is hard to overcome. That even overflows to the Classic servers.

They would have to provide a new marketing scheme to approach younger players. I’m 24. And I think the game Is fresh. But who knows exactly what would need to be done to appropriately target young people. Also I appreciate mature themes In games. So I kind of hope they don’t go too darn clean.

Wow you know it’s gone to a point of no return when even a positive poster like Theon thinks the quality has dropped

That’s facts. BfA was when I stopped white knighting. Specifically 8.2.

I hope this Is sarcasm because I just had a good laugh.

Or the whole MMO market is a fraction of what is was 10 years ago. These types of games are just not as popular as they were back in the day.

He is a positive poster from what I’ve seen. I genuinely do not know many negative posts from his side.
