One of the things Blizzard did really well in mists of pandaria was explaining the lore. Lore walker cho giving play by play explanations about previous things that happened in pandaria was really cool and fleshed out the expansion quite a bit. My suggestion is adding in something similar to the new player experience where during the questing experience you do the same thing but for each of the previous expansions. Brief explanations of the greatest hits such as explaining outland and the new invasion that happened during legion, the wrath that arthas brought upon the world as the lich king and the cataclysmic events that unfolded due to deathwing. It would be a nice way to bring everything together. A story thus far kind of thing.
There is a NPC that is in city that tells alot of the story’s you are asking about.
I will see if I can find location and name. Sorry … One is to the right of the opening to go to Cromie.
Sorry can’t find name.
I feel bad for any new player coming into this game who is interested in the lore and story.
The leveling experience should be as close to classic as possible with a very well made “The story so far” cinematic once they hit 50.
Or when they hit 40, story so far, and pick an expansion to level 40-50.
And then beef up heirlooms so the tiers aren’t charcter level restrictions but increasing XP gains.
The Lorewalker faction and Timewalking in general could be great ways to provide clear context to stuff as people catch up. I have no idea how they would implement it, but they could make it so that legacy content is still somewhat relevant. For new players, anyway.
I find it very difficult to explain answers to questions Newcomers have without sounding ridiculously sad.
This is one of those things where I think it’d be hugely advantageous to have a single player Warcraft RPG running alongside WoW. While old xpacs should continue to be available in WoW, the RPG could distill the essence of each into a much more clean, coherent, and succinct campaign that would make it a lot more quick and enjoyable to get the gist of things, as well as generate interest for leveling WoW characters through those expansions via Chromie Time.
The original game and earlier expansions were designed for people who had been into all the earlier Warcraft games. WoW continues to be designed for people who have bought every book and played through every expansion. Their memories of the events of those earlier expansions are triggered when leveling in those zones. They seem to be unaware that none of these events are part of the experience of any player that did not experience them at the time. The story of every expansion has been ripped from it. What remains is locked in instances that have no background or introduction, and in any case the leveler will not see unless much later they get into transmog farming.
