This is the 2nd expansion in a row of being a new player that is seemingly excluded from any and all end game content. Might not be so bad if the game wasn’t entirely end game. Removed from mythics after they learn it’s my first, refused raid chances based on achievement score I assume. I haven’t done as much as pull a extra mob before being booted before… What is the actual to do list to at least hide amongst people who have felt what a non lfr raid feels like? Is my only real hope finding a group of irl people to join the game so I can play it? (NL I might as well find a board game if that’s the case lol) Any and all tips would help, Ik people hate the added accessibility and lack of community. But as a new and inexperienced player that is literally my only successful interactions with people in my mmo. If it’s not feasible so be it, but I can’t in good faith pay a sub fee and waste all this time hoping there isn’t something else entirely gatekeeping me from experiencing end game that I don’t know about. I’ve tried to google what people are looking at and stuff but either no one has posted such a thing or I’m wording it poorly
Thank you for the advice and the inevitable hate I’ll get for daring to ask a question on the forum.
1 - Level to expansion level cap.
2 - Run random dungeons to gear up a bit.
3 - Once you hit the heroic dungeon level requirement, do those.
4 - Once you feel familiar enough, you’re probably geared up for mythic dungeons anyway. Do those.
Switch out dungeon for raid if that is your focus. Same thing. I like to be around the previous difficulty’s gear reward to move to the next. So lfr > normal, maybe 213+ before I queue.
Past that, all it takes to do harder content is have awareness of mechanics for each fight/ability to react fast.
Also, download Deadly Boss Mods if you don’t have it.
Edit: If you’re looking to find a group to play with, there is a solid chance that you’ll encounter a group who invites you to their community if you follow those steps.
I came to WoW (and stuck with it) at SL launch having basically 0 knowledge of all things WoW related (except that I thought the armor and weapon appearances were amazing). But having played Everquest for years and years prior I had somewhat of a grasp on the basic gameplay.
Now 11 months later I’ve gotten 4 toons to 60 and am doing heroic raiding, m+, and during season one I pvp’d a bit. I don’t quite understand what you are trying to achieve with your post but most of what the above posters have said is true.
It also depends on what you want to do in game. You don’t need to play end-game in WoW if that’s not what you find fun. I do old dungeon/raid xmog runs and have a blast sometimes… or spend a weekend looking up some cool mounts to collect.
I call shenanigans. Who the heck kicks anyone out of a +2, ESPECIALLY after they invited you purely on your iLevel.
I’ve “/p First time tanking this” several times in M+ and never got kicked. Nobody cares at low levels. In fact, I “first time tank” dungeons a couple of times, cuz you can’t learn it all in one go, especially if you’re in an OP DPS group that’s just going to burn through it anyway. And this is as a tank, an “important” role, vs a disposable DPS.
Of course, if you don’t want to be kicked, start your own group. They can always leave.
I’m not saying this NEVER happens, but, geez, it’s got to be REALLY rare.
And +2s are all you need to run. You get the same vault drop from +2s up until +5, so since the gear drops are so low in M+ anyway, no reason to run +3 and +4. Run +2 do other stuff until you’re high enough, then dive in to +5s.
I think one of the biggest mistakes the developers made was funneling all new players into BFA. They miss out on an entire map of content and dungeons, and if they have never played this game before, they wouldn’t even know it.
I also feel that it does them a disservice in the area of learning how to play their character. The old dungeons started out simple and as you leveled, you learned how to do the mechanics. In BFA content, you’re thrown in the deep end, with the expectation that you know how to do mechanic based fights.
I also think that by funneling people through BFA the way they do, the new people miss out on building relationships with the overall community. All the services they need are in BFA so they have no reason to go to Org and SW and see the rest of the community.
This isn’t good advice at all. The best way to start gearing a char is by doing korthia dailies and rares right now. Also kill both world bosses every week, do the 2 assaults in the maw per week plus tormentors of thorgast every chance you get (the gear loot is not weekly locked).
This is how EVERY mmo is. If that isn’t your thing then mmos aren’t for you. What do you expect MMOs are supposed to do when there is no ending? WoW offers you a lot more end game options though than the other mmos.
MMOs are meant to be about grouping and actually meeting new people. If you are against that then yeah, any mmo you try you will have the same results. I recommend looking for a guild that meets what you are looking for. IMO active guilds are the best way to go. I have been in one since day 1 of WoW. Not the same one as guilds can fizzle etc. but I mean, I wouldn’t be playing WoW if I wasn’t in an active guild. It is extremely boring to me playing alone. I love raiding and doing other things with guildees and you make new friends and maybe play other games together besides WoW.
I use a LFG spam blocker addon to blacklist players that are overly rude or gatekeep things. It helps so you’ll never have to see their groups again. As a somewhat new player who started right before BFA I haven’t really experienced much toxicity in groups. My only advice would be to find a guild or a community of likeminded players who are facing the same struggles you are. I have a few friends who play wow which is also a good way to do group content, if I have to put a mythic I always make sure it’s my group so that way I don’t have to worry about other players removing me.
This community is horrendous when it comes to new comers and returning players alike. It’s why Blizzard has to step in and create multiple tiers of content and even have queue content because without it, the majority of the player base would be effectively done with the game once they reach max level despite the fact their gear and experience is way beyond what is necessary to clear the easier levels of content.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it here and foreveremore…the absolute worst sin you can commit in this game is falling behind the curve. The player base is just wholly intolerant of people they deem as undergeared and/or inexperienced regardless if it is true or not and ESPECIALLY if the content at hand warrants just scrutiny. Everyone acts like any piece of content is only doable if you outgear it by 30+ ilvls and the group is stacked with people who out skill it by 2 tiers of difficulty.
Your best and only hope is to find others like you, honestly bottom of the barrel types, and struggle through content and hopefully do enough to get better groups to take you on and springboard you up. It sucks…it really does…but until Blizzard goes hard on knocking no life tryhards off their pedastal and “incentivizing” groups to form appropriate geared groups and taking on “inexperienced” players to help get them the critical experience they need, the best thing you can do is never miss a tier of content and get in early to just not fall too far behind. You also aren’t doing yourself any favors by being Alliance. Horde, at the very least, has a way more populated end game playerbase (though don’t assume that means you’ll find any more of a welcome mat there…but group content is a numbers game and Horde has the numbers).
Or honestly unsub and pick any of the other MMO’s that don’t have as bad of a tryhard and wannabe tryhard base. FFXIV, ESO, and even Guild Wars 2 aren’t nearly as bad to be a new person or returning player in.
The entire game is end game which I have barely scratched lol I wouldn’t call myself experienced by any stretch neither should anyone else in their right mind
So you are not being excluded from all end game content, just the content you feel you should be able to do that apparently no one else does.
Okay then, that is simple.
Apply to a casual raiding guild.
And don’t misrepresent yourself as you have done here. Instead, be honest about your experience, what you are looking for and what time you have. And when they turn you down, ask why and you will have your answer.
OP Look around on your servers forum page for guild postings and see if anything clicks.
Alternatively go to “wowprogress” web site and search your server for normal raiding guilds, or even heroic.
I went from LFR to heroic in 8.1, healing even, after applying to one on my server that fit what I was looking for (using the methods I mentioned above)
Talk to a few and get a feel for where their at - your interviewing them as much as the other way around - you may be spending a lot of time with these folks
No one is excluded from any content in this game, as long as they are willing to put in the time required to prepare for said content.
Sounds to me like the OP is upset because they are being told they have to start at the bottom and work their way up, when what they want to do is start at the top and then go sideways.
Just trying to play the game lol but you definitely sound like you have some kind key I’m missing
I’ll admit I haven’t gave M+ since BFA but yeah that’s all I experienced personally
Thank you!!
Literally FFXIV… but not even remotely what was ultimately talking about but ig thank you for trying??
Legitimately great advice I didnt know about! Thank you!!
I’ve played them all but GW2 but hell why not
Guild = doing end game content lol gotcha, can’t believe I never thought of trying that
What? Pull a mob like make a mistake?? Lol before I’m given a shot if I’ve gotta spell it out for you. what content are you playing with no mobs at all?
How many times did you try? How many groups did you start?
How many raids did you start?
How many BGs did you try to form groups for?
There’s this story floating around about a guy who creates raids, and then dies on each encounter. Essentially, he doesn’t actually PLAY, he just forms raids, replaces players that leave, and then watches the encounter but not participate.
He’s 4/10 Heroic.
If someone who doesn’t even actually play can do this, I think anyone can.
I’m a huge believer in the guild system.
maybe because I’ve been in the same guild since 2009…but, having a group of people you can do content with, or just talk to when the mood strikes you, helps. a lot. not having to pug every. bit. of. content. you want to do helps a lot.
do I pug sometimes? of course, but man if I had to pug all the time, I’d probably have quit the game years ago.
So take a look at your realm forums, see if there’s a guild recruiting for people just beginning their steps into dungeon/raid content. you might check out the recruitment discord as well, they have sections for people looking for normal or heroic raiding, or just a place to hang out.
this discord is SUPER helpful in finding guilds, but it can be overwhelming due to the massive number of channels.
