So, I started playing this game about 6 months ago, when I first started playing it was pretty damn fun but that slowly changed to crap over time, I enjoyed raiding for a while but then I realized I’m gearing up for no reason.
Like, what’s really the point of gear? Unless for PvP I don’t find gear really that useful unless maybe for getting better gear, is the game always this bad? Or is it just a bad couple of patches?
The game’s design is really smart and interesting, I like the whole idea of faction wars and all that nonsense but currently I’m just bored.
So what I’m asking is: Is this game always this bad or not?
(I just resubbed after like 2 weeks just to come back to literally no content)
Bad is subjective. If you aren’t enjoying yourself then that is fine. Other people finding the game enjoyable is not going to change that fact for you. For what you are specifically complaining about, yes that is kind of the game. Each tier is a reset, you gear up, you raid.
I think the problem lies with not being able to set clear-cut goals when gearing up. I can’t make a spreadsheet of what to run to get a specific piece of gear from a specific boss because everything is RNG now. I found it more fun when I could work towards a certain piece of gear. Now all I do is run mythic + in hopes I get something that is completly random from a pool of 100’s of other pieces of gear. I essentially could be running mythic + 5 times and get nothing or get something that isn’t a good upgrade. Before in earlier versions of the game, I could target a boss for a piece of gear I knew was an upgrade. No such thing exists anymore and that’s whats missing.
Well, what are your goals and/or what do you enjoy doing?
To tackle harder PvE content the gear is required, but if not anything under 380 is fine for general world content and for soloing older content for transmog, mounts, and pets.
Setting a goal (I wanna get X, I want to beat Y on Z difficulty) really helps keep you engaged, especially during a low period in this expansions lifecycle (which we are in atm).
Alongside that finding a guild/group with likeminded people also greatly improves the enjoyment you have, especially if you want to tackle group content like M+ Dungeons, rated PvP, or Raids.
If none of that works, theirs no shame in taking a break and coming back in 8.2, which is looking to improve a lot of the expansions low points.
I can see the whole “making a goal” thing work, but another thing that I also hate is class design, I have 4 max level characters but I don’t find any of them fun different or unique. I love leveling characters, but as soon as I hit 120 I feel like I’m back at the terrible part of the game.
Fun is subjective, you just have to find the parts you enjoy and focus on them. For me i enjoy m+ and set my goal each season to attain my bis pieces or better. I say better because i dont chase tf gear, if i get a tf on a piece and its better than my bis at 400 ilvl then great. I check that slot off my list and focus on slots i havent filled yet. I have 2 tf equipped atm from the warfront and luckily they had my top stats on them so thats just two less pieces on my list to upgrade.
To all those who argue you cant target specific bosses anymore, yes you can. You simply have to run the entire dung now. The only players it hurt to have all the gear drop at the end are those who would join a group for a boss at the beginning of the dung then leave after they didnt get what they were looking for. For the rest of us its no different, run the whole dung for the small chance at getting the specific piece we need.
As far as classes i agree, theyre pretty bland currently. I have this mm hunter, a disc/holy priest, and warrior at 120. Im enjoying this toon more than the others currently but at launch he was by far the worst of the 3. Luckily all my 120s are very different playstyles so my chances of having something i enjoy each time a patch changes things up are pretty decent. Im pretty stoked for 8.2 and all the different customization options coming with it. I think it could really add a lot of missing flavor for classes and make them much more enjoyable.
BfA is an amazing expansion that brought many old players back to the game, along with countless new players. Tens of millions of us are enjoying the game.
Tha’s about where I am too, although with around 12 lvl 110’s (since I don’t have BfA 110 is the level cap for me) I’m tired of leveling and not a fan of WoW’s implementation of level scaling. I agree that class design is in a terrible state. I used to enjoy quite a few classes in MoP but now I struggle to find anything I really enjoy.
Plus the devs keep tinkering with and breaking things that I enjoyed over the years leaving me missing the good old days.
My warglaives from Black Temple are on my fury warrior and I enjoyed using them in Timewalking during WoD; then they go ahead and remove fury’s ability to dual wield 1h weapons, making them useless. My time spent farming those warglaives is wasted now and I have no desire to farm them on another toon that can still use them.
Now they’re nerfing the water strider which I also worked for several xpacs ago. Even if I grind something out for the reward, that can be changed or removed on a developer’s whim and it’s left me with the feeling you expressed in the OP about realizing you worked for something (gearing up in your case) for no reason. Nothing is safe from the devs.
I hope you find something you enjoy whether it’s in WoW or not.
Looks like a troll post. This is your decision. You want to raid, they join a raid team. You want to PvP then PvP. You want to progress Mythic+, then level up your keys. Want to run world quests, then run world quests. Want to collect, then collect mounts, pets, gear sets… Really do what you want to do. I have several friends that love to run old raids. The get two or three friends together and run all the previous expansions raids.
That exactly what my friend who got me into this game in last December told me. I asked him do I do this, or that, do I do mythics…and he was quick to cut me off and told me “do what you want to do, not what blizzard tell you or anyone else.” That’s the best advice in wow I ever got.
At max level, end-game gear is designed to get you to a higher end-game. There will always be a higher end-game. BFA launched everyone was shooting for ilvl to get to heroics. Then higher for mythic > mythic+ > raiding> heroic raiding > mythic raiding. If end-game content isn’t appealing to you, there’s other stuff!
You could try getting into the story. Chances are you boosted, maybe. You skip the whole story that way! You could really like it, maybe start out in a few low level areas. Learn the lore and maybe grind out the Loremaster achievement!
Which also brings back to gear. You could try just seeing it as the ultimate mogging mission. Doing all those low level quests will add variety to your mog collection in addition to getting familiar with the story.
There are also alts! You have a druid already, have you tried other classes? You can make a class trial character to experience what life with all your abilities would be like. You can choose to keep this and pay for a boost or use it to play around and see if you would like starting a new alt to maybe do loremaster & mogging.
Battle pets are fun for a lot of folks. I’m really into it because as I’ve gotten older, it’s easier for me to just click things rather than keyboard smash in PVP (<another really fun part of WoW imho). Plus there’s tons of them so you can collect to your heart’s desire!
Speaking of collections, there’s mounts! I don’t really use mounts on my druid because of travel form but those new alts would probably love them.
Basically my point is there is quite a bit of stuff to do in WoW. Even if you have a negative attitude about an aspect of the game, try it anyway! I thought I’d hate archaeology (and I do) but I find myself doing it anyway. I also like to zone out sometimes and just sit and fish.
Good luck to you, hope you find something you enjoy!
Raiding can’t be for me, on my server at least there are barely any guilds and because I have a crappy IO score I don’t get invited to m+s
The only thing enjoyable for me is leveling, I have leveled 3 account up and planning on leveling alliance characters too. It’s just such a shame classes don’t feel unique.
If you think getting new gear to go do new raids is the game, then yes. If you can’t find anything to do then you should find a different game or you’re not trying hard. You can pet battle, do professions, go explore old content, pvp, hunt for mogs, collect mounts etc.
If none of that appeals to you then maybe WoW isn’t the game for you.
