New PC .... good deal?

I think he’ll be okay I don’t think he’s 4K gaming

I guess he’s literally just playing wow and maybe older games that setup will work for also next expansion after SL

500gb SSD at least, it’s what I use and it’s just enough.

Yeah, the SSD is small. But besides that, it seems like a good deal.

256 covers OS + WoW + D3 + Hots + one or two steam games, it’s quite a lot. If you’re playing games with a 100 GB install requirement though, well, yeah. But a decent 7200 RPM drive loads faster enough and is cheap for non “I don’t play this game every day” status

Is it possible to just install the operating system on the Hard Drive and leave the SSD open for WoW?

Get a better video card

Just playing WoW, surfing the net, watching youtube videos, Netflix movies…not streaming or anything like that.

2700x is nearly 2 generations old.
GTX 1070 is nearly 2 generations old.

Don’t buy that, especially for ~$1000

RAM is bad for around 1k, i know that much

SSD’s are MUCH faster, your HDD will bottle neck everything, but yes that will work.

Putting your game on the SSD is fine, but I’d honestly recommend ditching the HDD on that system, they are obsolete and slow.

If you need to wait and save up then that’s fine too, you can just clone your HDD and switch it to a new SSD later on.

Good luck and if you still have questions keep them coming, I’ll answer as best I can.

/hugs

Great info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/

Also the system Salhezar picked out for you is way better, so don’t jump in without doing more research. You won’t regret the extra time.

RAM isn’t the problem here, it’s everything else. Only games that even care about more than 16gb right now are MS Flight Sim and insane minecraft/skyrim mods

i cannot emphasize more do not pay $1000 for that old stock

Linked it in the appropriate forum fyi

My build includes quality power supply, better case and Windows.

Just to clarify the higher cost.

Was trying for that sub $1000 price point - but either one is infinitely better than the 2 year old PC they’re trying to sell this person

Yeah, Ryzen 3rd gen has better Instructions Per Clock. Add Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B in the future for bonus performance too.

I’m going to guess that the price of both of your systems is off due to the power supply shortage. This component is likely something that they will get charged double or triple MSRP for right now.

Good luck with the parts issues, at least ram and SSDs are going down right now due to oversupply but PSU is going to be a nightmare.

Everything price wise is “okay” as I’ve been following for the past 5 years.

PSUs are the only standout, and due to their ultimately lower absolute cost, its negligible.

Still nothing like the crytpocurrency GPU shortage and RAM price hikes of 2017.

Edit: also, for clarity, the build I posted has better cpu, faster ram, faster gpu, and more nvme storage. But it ain’t a competition

In my experience, pre-built computers are almost never a good deal.

I like your optimism but check newegg… most quality PSUs are out of stock, ditto Amazon. I’m fairly sure manufacturers are on serious back order if they are taking them at all. So either you have to compromise with something of questionable power delivery (and to me 550w for the system you’ve both generally described is 100w short) or you have to pay through the nose.
