New PC build would love to hear what to expect

I need a PC for running VM’s and such for homelabbing. I want the PC to be able to play wow well but I don’t plan on it being used for wow on a daily basis, I have other PC’s for that.

Ryzen Threadripper 2970
64 gb g skill 3200 mhz
5700 xt (Saphire Nitro) or a 2070 Super

The plan is to use Unraid as a type 1 hypervisor and run 4 cores/8 Threads with passthrough for the GPU. This is going to be a linus style build if you have watched his 2 gamer 1 pc build. I have another GPU set aside already for a second VM if my wife decides to start playing again. Most of the other VM’s won’t need graphics much at all since I plan on running linux with no gui for the others.

The question is, is a 5700 xt going to be a solid card for wow? Is it worth the $100 more for the 2070? I don’t plan on OC’ing the system past just enabling xmp. This build is pushing my budget of 2500 already but I don’t mind spending more if I have to although my wife will lol…

yes the 5700xt is more than enough for WoW.
There hasn’t been any major gpu performance in the last 3 years, and the 5700xt is about the same performance as the 1080ti which was the high end card 3 years ago.

I would say AMD is pretty good in terms of support for VM right now as I haven’t had the early problems with things randomly crashing or performance issues. Granted I was running Type2 (VirtualBox)

I would recommend getting the 2060 super. It is enough to play wow and if I’m not mistaken I heard shadowlands is going to have ray tracing. You can also play other games you may like that also support RT.
