That is crazy, I wonder if 9/10 does some large shadow changes or something. I cannot see how at 4K resolution you get 60fps in Val. I am on a 10700k though, not 10900k, not that this is a bad proc but I feel like that is my only possible hardware that could be holding me back! If you are getting 60fps on a 3060ti then it must me the 12700k. IDK, drives me crazy lol.
Ya I think the idea of a 4000 card is dead to me now, I will wait for 5000 if I even need to upgrade the card.
Thats the best choice! I had a 4060Ti ordered for my kid, to replace his 1080 Founders edition, and compared the specs between a 3060Ti OC and the 4060Ti, for so much more money, and the 4060Ti is 192Bit, but Nvidia said that their new AI frame generation would compensate for the lack of bandwidth for the memory, and the difference between the 3060Ti and the 4060Ti was a lousy 8-10% gain! For $150 more and that was at the second price dropped price! The bang for your buck with ANY of the 40xx series cards is so not worth it.
Do what makes ya happy with the processor, just get a good ASUS, Gigabyte, or MSI board, something in the Z790 range i think they are? You would be golden. Even a 12900K would be insane.
Enjoy whatever ya get!
I will be getting a 50xx series card this next year when the 5060Ti launches.
Yeah I think people tend to forget that WoW is an MMO and has massive differences in performance depending entirely on where you are and what’s going on around you.
Standing in the Gilneas intro quest area on a new Worgen is gonna be like 300 FPS on a new rig.
But they’ll probably be getting like 50 FPS in the middle of Valdrakken.
i recently bought my wife a new pc rtx 4060 & i play on my old laptop gtx 1050 & i gotta say the difference is massive in terms of quality & performance
The specs of my current PC is RTX 3080 , 5800x3d and 16gb of 3600 ram. When my toons are standing just outside the pvp building in Valdrakken I get about 75-80fps at 4k. Inside that building the FPS will easily be in the 90’s. In any Dragonflight zone my fps ranges from 80-100fps most of the time and sometimes higher. I just optimise settings with Geforce experience and turn of Ray Tracing and when looking at the settings in game everything seems maxed out. I feel like an RTX 3080 is really good bang for your buck. Just for reference I upgraded my cpu from a 5600x to the 5800x3d and barely saw 5-10 fps difference with 4k. I upgraded to the 5800x3d because it was the last significant upgrade I could do on the AM4 platform and only did the upgrade at the time because the price was so cheap during a mid year sale. Looking at the GPU usage in game it’s always in the high 90’s so at 4k you’re better of upgrading the GPU.
val is horribly optimized.
i get same fps, but as soon as i leave it jumps right back to 60.
It could be the CPU too OP. Like a couple others have mentioned WoW is a heavily CPU relient game.
Your settup looks more then fine for running modern WoW. It’s not a graphically demanding game compared to other modern AAA titles.
I don’t run 4k. But running the 2k 2560x1440 setup I get 100+ fps in Valdrakken with an older computer (8700k CPU and 1080TI GPU).
DF has had FPS issues since the prepatch, they said it was a top priority back then and here we still are. My 3070 gets 60fps lock most of the time but will drop in Valdrakken to like 40 and say only 40% of my GPU is being used. I have a 12600k and it is barely being used ever in WoW, most is on load screens so it isn’t that either. It’s the engine not your 3080. Do not upgrade for WoW.
Thats just a given, a 1050 is a bargain bin card, and on a laptop no less. But that still does not negate the fact that the 40xx series cards are no more than 20% better than the 30xx series, and in most cased 50% higher in cost.
oi dont you speak that way of ol’ trusty!!
All 4060 variants are 128-bit. I got one right when they came out. I’ve already moved on to an RX 7700 XT.
I cant keep all the tech info straight in my head lol. But yes, you are right.
My bad. Please accept my apologies.
This right here is why everyone should wait for a 50xx series card! even the 5060Ti will be amazing!
Upgrade your CPU. Aim for one with good speeds under 4-6 core loads (not talking about threads, talking physical cores). The game doesn’t scale beyond that, so the speeds, while in those modes, are most critical.
For instance: Without overclocking, that Ryzen 7 7800X3D is only 19% faster vs an i3-13100 in single core benchmarking. In a quadcore load, it might only be 20% faster as well. If you were in a threadbound situation, let’s say ~60fps while the GPU isn’t at 100% load, ~19% more quad core power would bump you up to ~70fps. See where I’m going with this? It’s not always about having some ultra high end CPU with 300000 cores/threads. This is why the i5/amd equivalents are the most commonly used for gaming, and even i3 level CPUs starting around the 12th/13th gen. Unless you’re doing some hard CPU rendering and number crunching, more cores != better.
WoW is an extremely threadbound game, with most of the holdup happening on the main game thread, which is single threaded.
Not wrong. Thats why i wouldnt mind having his 10900K. Heck, i probably would switch out my 12700KF with it lol.
My question is what is the refresh rate of your tv? If the refresh rate is 60 htz then you’ll only physically see 60 fps.
thats more like it
hes not wrong. the 50 and 60 series cards for nvidia are basically budget cards. their perfromance is basically equivalent to a generation or two agos 70/80 series.
Always have been. I can not remember when the last time i had a top of the line model, but it was a Radeon back in the day, and it was a special edition with a print on the casing, maybe BF2 i think it was? Still have it some place.
I always go for the 60 model because they have never let me down. I ordered a 4060Ti for my kid on Amazon, and then when i read about its specs afterwards, i canceled it ASAP, and bought him a 3060Ti OC just like mine, and hes a mythic raider and was having trouble with his 1080 Founders edition. I put in the 306o Ti OC, and he plays in 4K in raid at preset 8 without a single issue, and it saved me $150 and a HUGE regret headache!
