So ive got a baby monk that i started healing on and im having a blast with it. About 595 ilvl and Aspect of Harmony, ran a few keys with it, had no problems, except…
SV +4 (tyr week)
VDH tank / 595 ilvl as well
Speakers Boss (double bosses)
I can handle the AoE damage. I can deal with a missed kick or two, im comfortable with the fights and any ramp up i need to do…but mu frustration comes from failing mechanics (tanks doing).
When exhaust vents go out and you need to move, im forced off the boss and the tank lags behind and is slow in moving them (if at all), and being off the boss my healing plummets.
I can Life Cocoon him, but if hes not moving off the vents, that gets eaten in a hurry. And if im not on the bosses because, well, mechanics, i lose 75% of my healing and i cant maintain the 500-600k dps the tank is taking in those moments.
I feel like the only thing i can do is get a Thunder Tea + Renewing Mist (+30% healing) + Lightning and then i get left with Vivify…which isnt enough by itself and RIP the rest of the group.
Is there really anything i can do in that scenario, or do i just need the tank to be on top of it before losing out on 60-80% of his life??
Ping the correct vent for tank to move. Anyway, for SV, Celestial of Conduit is better, as get a CD to heal thru aoe damage.
Id say find a better tank, if that isnt possible let them know what they are doing wrong. ( in this case not moving the boss to the correct vent(s) in a reasonable timeframe and sitting on the vent that chunks them )
Like he would, he was just slow.
So he’s taken like 500k hits from vents per tick, nearly 4 million from tank buster, puddle damage if he runs through one and then the DoT for the cube in the middle if we make it that far (4 attempts on that boss).
I move off of the vents asap and get in position to the right one. I figured him being a DH, he could just leap to the right spot. But that entire time I’m not melee’ing the boss so I’m not doing 75% of my healing.
Is there really anything I can do in that position aside from hard cast Vivify or use Renewal/Sheilun’s Gift?
I mean you could run a non jadefire/Peer into Peace type build that doesn’t entirely rely on hitting the boss and being in melee so much, but it sounds like there is a major tank issue that should be fixed before worrying about that tbh. Youd also be halving your “healer damage” - but under like a +12 damage isn’t a huge factor. It’s just something to consider if pug tanks are all over the place and you cant be in melee as much.
I dont think I would have done much differently though, Id have TFT-Ren Misted the tank ( for haste buff on me and Chi Harmony on tank ) and moved to the clear vent asap like you did, Ramped Env Mists with Yu’Lon + SooMist/Peer Into Peace ( tank also gets a slight DR from Elusive Mists talent ) and spam vivify…refresh healing buffs as needed ( ren mist and env mist ).t.
Cocoon and SG if it’s that bad - SG gives me the stats or healing buffs because I talent into Lessons - so that helps. You still have your celestial too. I don’t use chi Ji so I recommend checking out one of the peak or QE live guides for how to maximize it for those situations.
Id also maybe try to fish to get the Mending Proliferation buff on the tank by putting Env Mist on a few people before the tank needs it. ( the healing bonuses of Env Mist and MP stack )
Worst case scenario pop Revival as a last ditch effort.
Keep Chi harmony and env mist on the tank all the time if they are that bad.
Thing is you need your cooldowns for other parts during that fight so if the tank is the one eating up all of your healing cooldowns just to stay alive they are doing something SIGNIFICANTLY wrong.
Honestly though Id just call them out for not moving off the vent and ask them politely to try to position the boss faster or better so people arent at risk of getting hit by the cube. If they are new they need to know these things. If they are trying to be special and facetank it and get toxic just leave group and re queue. If they constantly miss the tank buster and dont DR that is also on them.
Either way stay positive. It sounds like you did your best in this situation but the tank was actively eating all the damage he could for some reason. Possibly they were new and just needed to learn the dungeon. A big part of it is noticing these things. It sounds like you did as much as you could and it still wasn’t enough to heal through the tank afk-ing.

You can pre-hot renewing mist for chi harmony (name? 50% heal buff anyway) and enveloping mist and then release a somewhat juicy sheiluns gift for a good aoe heal. If that’s not enough then chi’ji gives everyone a small chi cocoon (talented), and revival heals a bunch (3 min cd but is reduced for every rsk you use).
Other than that, tank has to move his butt to allow you to heal. You not being able to heal because of tanks positioning is 100% the tanks fault, and their misplays are rough to counter.
So quick update, ran another SV 4 and breezed through it with half the HPS. Same ilvl of tank, except this one was taking half the damage. Can only attribute that to the other tank not pressing his buttons and standing in bad.
Its just one of those, i cant prevent everyones death but as a healer i still feel responsible type things so just wanted to see if there was really anything else on my end i could have done better or differently

Same tbh, I always feel bad, even if it isnt my fault I still try/tried my best and wonder what could have been done better on my end.
Pugs can make healing next to impossible or super easy, depending on if they are pitching in to make things run smoothly or not.
Glad to hear the second dungeon went better! Keep it up and dont let bad groups/situations discourage you too much.
