I’m a new monk, take that into consideration, but I’ve been playing wow off and on since TBC.
I’m a big fan of classes and styles of combat that require two resources to manage, it allows a kit that requires preparation and is immensely fun to set up and balance.
I don’t feel “balance” when i play the various monk specs, it feels like a ham handed rogue.
I’m curious as to why of all the new classes introduced into the game the monk has done so poorly, and that being an under statement. I play DH and I’m overwhelmed with incredible animations, i play DK and the class fantasy and the sound effects suck me in. I understand that monks start at level 1 instead of the hero classes, and that pandas kind made people bitter towards it, but just look at the login screen of the characters, it really feels heartbreaking.
Blizzard, were it not for the 2 resource system and my long experience playing the game there would be very little for a new player to pick up the monk. It needs a fresh coat of paint, new animations, additional sound effects, and consistency with the design. The monk is at an excellent spot to take some risks: fistweave with mistweaver, bring some wind and make Windwalker a shadowboxer, melee counter interaction with BrM.
The monk in all specs has some seriously fun gameplay, which is oft repeated on many WoW YouTube writers and by the community. It’d just be nice to get some glitz that the other new classes have that pulls in new players. Take a risk Blizzard.
