Hi, It’s the first time I played a Monk and there is something that is bothering me, I don’t know if its a bug or not, so i’m posting here. Its incredibly noobish, so forgive me if its too obvious of an answer:
I rolled a brewmaster. the description says that the spec uses staff and polearms.
But every single combat animation is hand combat. I’m on lvl 33 and I’ve never saw my toon use her staff a single time.
Is this a bug or is it really like that?
No, monks are all about hand to hand.
The weapons are just like mage, priest, lock, and all druid specs… Just there for stats. So just like in their description it says locks use daggers and staffs but they just use them for stats.
Monk description says they are a hand to hand class. Masters of weaponless combat. But we still have weapons for the stats from them.

Monks have weapons because the game is designed around having that equipment slot. The staves and polearms generally sit on our back. We are playing hand to hand combatants, so we use our fists.
The only attack I’ve noticed we use our weapons for is on Windwalker which is a hamstring effect.
And for the record, never apologize for asking a question, if someone gives you crap or calls you out they aren’t worth your time. Ask away my friend.

Windwalker had weapon animations back in MOP and WOD ‘Jab’ iirc before being removed in Legion. Brewmaster had the 2handed weapon animation ‘Blackout Strike’ before being removed in Shadowlands.
Wish they could make them into glyphs!

Thank you all. I figured the whole “master of weaponless combat”, but I was expecting a Jackie Chan “Use whatever is around you” vibe. Lets hope Blizz at least give us a walking animation that uses it at some point.
Thanks again.
If you get the legion brewmaster weapon you can transmog your weapon to look like it and you’ll fight while holding it over your shoulder. Looks delightful imo.
