So I need help who here knows anything about Monitors? I have currently since 2018 https://us.msi.com/Monitor/Oculux-NXG251R but going to be giving this to someone in the fam who recently is having a monitor that I had bought back in 2011 start to go bad. I have been researching and came up with https://www.msi.com/Monitor/MPG-ARTYMIS-273CQR (There is a 240HZ) version but it is a bit expensive) to be my next best, if anyone can let me know if it is worth the switch and if it is an upgrade please do, only major difference I saw was going from 240hz on the one I have to 165hz but most of my games are running no more than 100FPS anyways since I cap them out due to streaming and such. (My GPU is a RTX 2060)
I also found https://www.msi.com/Monitor/Optix-MAG301CR2 which is a Ultra Wide Which would be nice with similar speccs, this one is 200Hz, which is an up from the 165 but still lower than my current one. Would either this one or the other one be an upgrade to my current one?
The Nyquist rule in signal processing says 2x oversampling is the bare minimum to avoid undesired artifacts of Fourier transforms & inversions. Lots of high-fidelity audio equipment touts 4x, 8x, and even 16x oversampling.
If your video card is maxing out at 100 fps, you probably would like to have a monitor refresh rate of at least 200 Hz (Nyquist rate). That assumes your display resolution is the same for your old & new monitors. If the new display is higher resolution your fps might be lower.
Last update I found out I can get the expensive https://www.razer.com/gaming-monitors/razer-raptor-27/RZ39-03500100-R3U1#specs for around the same price as the MSI ones, so I assume this would be my best option out of the 3? And I assume even with the drop from 240->165hz it is still an upgrade from my current due to everything else being better??
I would personally get the LG 27GP850-B. Check out Rtings for reviews. Excellent site.
Yes either is an upgrade just due to resolution and size. You don’t need over 165 hz it’s plenty smooth.
Thanks for the reply loved that you suggested me another one to
I didn’t notice much of a difference between the LG and Razer and I can get the razer Raptor for around $350 due to some coupons and shizz which is why i brought that into play.
Will wake up tomorrow hope to see more replies as I need to make the purchase tomorrow as well. Out of the two MSI 27in and 30in and also the Razer what one of those 3 would be best? And dont hesitate to continue suggesting others.
If I get a chance I’ll check it out and try to suggest others today. I did this exact process around a year ago and went with last years model of the lg.
Mind you I didn’t do a pile of price checking but I also suggested the lg because it’s as good if not better then the other two imo, and with limited price checking, to me it looked massively cheaper also .

MSI Optix 31.5" MAG321CQR Mystic Light RGB Curved Gaming MONITOR is what I am using. Feels great . once you use a curve monitor you will never go back to a flat one again.
For the last 10+ years Ive been using a TV with a HDMI graphics card. And I love it. Im using a 55" “monitor” basically. And TV’s are generally a lot cheaper than a monitor. Maybe look into a smaller HDMI tv or go full on large screen tv.
I also use Roku on the tv, so its for my movies or pc monitor. Heck, I can plug in my dvd/blu ray player. ITs all in one

I have 2 of these. Best monitors Ive had. I ran Samsungs for years, including a 32" curved Samsung. The MSI Optix looks better and was $200 cheaper. No issues at all after 2 years of use.
I hope the less blue light feature is optional, not built-in. And what is up with brands like MSI and Acer and their el cheapo monitor bases?
You really should clarify what you intend to do with it.
Game? Game and work? Just WoW? Primary media consumption? Do you also have a tv? What is you budget, etc.?
Everyone likes to throw shade at acer, but I’ve had two monitors from them and both have served me well in the past (8+ years). In fairness, they were not the “low end” acer stuff.
The bases on the MSI Optix monitors are good, heavy, metal bases. No issues at all other than they take up a lot of space. Wall mounting is better.
Well in regards to budget nothing above $500 however I am searching for the cheapest I can get that makes sense, prefer to stay MSI/Razer/Samsung builds but anything will do.
The ones I had in mine were-
Original- https://us.msi.com/Monitor/Oculux-NXG251R
New Options-

Mine is 240hz, 1920x1080 roughly 24.5in model that is Geforce ready however being Geforce ready and Free Sync doesn’t matter nowadays when you have a higher end GPU so I am not forcing myself to get a GSync monitor as they will normally be more pricey for no reason, I just got a great deal on the one I currently had at the time.
The Artymis Pros I see is better quality picture wise, larger screen, I prefer curve, etc only downfall I see is going from 240hz to 165hz and kind of want to know if that is a huge killer as they do have a 240hz version but it way pricier.
The Mag301 Pros are larger screen being ultra wide, I prefer curve, etc but downfalls I see are 200hz instead of what I have now 240hz and also with the screen being a 30in the graphics is only 2560x1080 which I don’t think would look good when you strech out a 1080 but if someone says otherwise let me know.
Lastly the Razer model, well I just have a good history with them so I added that as well.
What I use it for? Streaming, Watching Videos, Hard Gaming, etc I do everything on a PC.
Making the purchase in 2 hrs
I have decided on the Artymis one however going to go with 240hz over the 165hz for longevity and well just to take advantage of it. So if anyone says otherwise Thanks for all the help!!!
