So I need help who here knows anything about Monitors? I have currently since 2018 https://us.msi.com/Monitor/Oculux-NXG251R but going to be giving this to someone in the fam who recently is having a monitor that I had bought back in 2011 start to go bad. I have been researching and came up with https://www.msi.com/Monitor/MPG-ARTYMIS-273CQR (There is a 240HZ) version but it is a bit expensive) to be my next best, if anyone can let me know if it is worth the switch and if it is an upgrade please do, only major difference I saw was going from 240hz on the one I have to 165hz but most of my games are running no more than 100FPS anyways since I cap them out due to streaming and such. (My GPU is a RTX 2060)
The newer one is 1440p where your current one is 1080p. The newer one also doesn’t have GSync. If you switch to an AMD video card later it has FreeSync though. If you prefer Nvidia cards I would only look for monitors with GSync because screen tearing sucks.
Thanks for the reply, I have a friend who has a free sync monitor aren’t they compatible with nvidia nowadays? I know they aren’t everything you get from a perfect g sync compatible monitor but should still help with screen tearing no? Found this on google- You can use FreeSync with Nvidia card. In early, 2019, Nvidia announced FreeSync support for GeForce graphics cards.
I also found https://www.msi.com/Monitor/Optix-MAG301CR2 which is a Ultra Wide Which would be nice with similar speccs, this one is 200Hz, which is an up from the 165 but still lower than my current one. Would either this one or the other one be an upgrade to my current one?
Last update I found out I can get the expensive https://www.razer.com/gaming-monitors/razer-raptor-27/RZ39-03500100-R3U1#specs for around the same price as the MSI ones, so I assume this would be my best option out of the 3? And I assume even with the drop from 240->165hz it is still an upgrade from my current due to everything else being better?
I’m not sure. He may be right. I haven’t shopped for a monitor in years. That Razer monitor is nice and I would probably get it if I were shopping for one. Gamestop has it for under $500 if you can pick it up locally or Best Buy has it for $500.
I ran a DELL free sync monitor on an Nvidia card and had no tear issues and my card did support free sync.
- with your current video card you are not pushing max FPS on either monitor
- you are not going to see a difference between 165 and 200 FPS without a benchmark tool.
- a lot of WoW players swear by ultrawide but I’ve heard just as many people complain about them in other games. Your best bet is to go to a store like microcenter or best buy where you can personally check out an Ultrawide screen and see how you like them.
I’m not an expert on monitors, I’ll read the reviews but when i upgrade them I default to a friend who follows the industry and can tell who the panel supplier is, what other brands also use the same panel , what’s important and what’s not. I’ve found displayninja has similar recommendations to his and does a good job of reviewing monitors and posting buying guides. Rtings also has some good reviews as well. Good luck in your search but all the monitors you posted so far would be an upgrade to your current one.
Thanks for all the replies
