New monitor worth buying?

built my first PC idk how many years ago i think during MoP/WoD one of the two. upgraded maybe 2 months ago. only thing i have yet to upgrade is my monitor which i bought cheap at the time $120 idk the specs for it i think 1080p? 60hz

problem for me is i mostly just play WoW and here and there i will play other video games that have more demanding graphics. however i also do not own a tv in my bedroom so i do watch tv/youtube or w.e. on my computer which possibly… could be better? idk.

so i am wondering is it worth getting a new monitor? i could use the 2nd monitor to watch tv on while gaming/live streams but like i said i mostly play WoW.

I’d say it isn’t worth buying another 1080p monitor if the old one still works. It’s only worth replacing if the old one dies or if you’re moving up to 1440 or 4K. I don’t know what WOW looks like in 4K but I liked the upgrade from 1080 to 1440 when I made the switch a few years ago.

Which leads me to ask, how good is your video card? Can it handle 1440 or 4K at a decent frame rate? Can it handle a dual monitor setup? Those are the main questions you need to answer.

(I approve of keeping the old monitor as a secondary display - I’ve been using a dual monitor setup since 2008 and wouldn’t want to go back to a single monitor.)

im running a rtx 3080.

i mean everything i bought for this computer is pretty good in terms of quality/performance only huge issue would be the ram which isn’t bad but the better option is out of stock 2TB m2 firecuda everything else is pretty good for now. not top of the line but way overkill for WoW.

i mean im fine with WoW looking the way it does but yes my monitor will eventually go sometime and i am looking to upgrade to 4k possibly. only issue is like i said i mostly just play WoW and watch tv/youtube on my comp. i buy lots of triple A games over the years but barely touch them.

for me graphics aint top priority in WoW though i played on a potatoe when i needed to did just fine.

Well a 3080 should be able to handle 4K.

Personally I’m in no hurry to switch from 1440 to 4K but as I said I’m happy not to be running 1080 anymore, so I’d say go for the new monitor.

hmm imma think about it for now i need to save up for new car too thats why would of got new car by now if not for the PC  but that is more of a top priority for me compared to new monitor.

got the money already just have hard time saving up vs spending so if i buy new monitor gonna just get worse XD. maybe i take your advice and just wait until it breaks down

A good display is the best thing you can buy. Good performance means nothing if you’re playing on an ugly washed out display with an inch of backlight bleed around every bezel. Would rather play at low detail on a GT 1030 on a nice display than with an RTX 3080 and a bargain bin display.

Ever consider an ultra wide? Running on the new Alienware 34 inch curved monitor, you see so much more in wow with everything.

That is what I’m looking at the ultra wide curved monitors

This, get a display upgrade especially if you have such a beefy card as the 3080.

I say definitely go with the ultrawide. I just finished my build and paired it with a ultrawide I snagged at Christmas.

That’s pretty damn cool!

LOVE IT!!

bruh u got same build as me XD almost… i running 16gb only 3200 3600 version was sold out everywhere but 32gb overkill for gaming and for the added price

What size is your current monitor? 24? 27? 32?
I’m using a 24" 1080p wide screen 75ghz monitor.
It’s just fine, but MUCH finer would be a 32" 4k wide screen 144ghz monitor.

24 I think. 60hz refresh. I bought it cheap cause at the time I had no job and had to build a new comp. So I went price wise.

I mean wow doesn’t have demanding graphics but I think yea eventually I will quit down the line. I mainly asking for like watch TV or shows on it since that is what I use it for mostly rn

You’re totally wasting the 3080 at 1080p/60

Your card is MUCH better than your monitor.
With a new, quality monitor, you will probably be (very) pleasantly surprised with WOW graphics!
My monitor is a reasonable, budget class monitor. Yours is, at best, a dated budget monitor, and a poor match for the rest of your rig.
So, yes, a new monitor is worth buying.

Thnx! I wanted something unique.

I only did 32gb because I have 4 slots for ram and I wanted to water cool the ram with the cpu. Lol.

All good I was debating 32gb too but I looked at performances and cost for me wasn’t work the cost. I’ll probably upgrade to 3600 though

I’m using Acer XB271HU (2560x1440 and native G-Sync). I’m happy with it. Running Ryzen 9 5900X and RTX 3080. I wouldn’t go 4k because games gets more demanding over time.

My next monitor will be Alienware AW2721D. Comes with G-sync Ultimate.
