For large overall mastery% try this build
perks
-more sustained healing
-tasty mastery hots
-beats divine image build in hps

assuming mastery is your main stat

I’ve always wondered if a heavy mastery build had merit in M+. I know that Mastery does not directly increase our damage, but I figured you’d be able to spend less time healing with our mastery.

I’m willing to try it, even if it’s just not good. I’m not competitive enough for it to matter lol

I find it works best with mastery>crit>vers>=haste

I can’t imagine playing any healer other than Evoker with less than 30% haste in high keys.

I had a crit haste build made for divine images, not sure if it was under powered but i can get 5K-10k average higher dps with this or a similar build while using mastery/crit/vers=haste

Haste/Vers > Crit > Mastery in M+. You need haste so you can pump out heals/damage, Vers increases your damage/healing + lowers damage taken, and Crit is just good all around because you can get 40%+ crit chance on Flash Heal/Heal talented.

Echo of Light tends to overhaul massively in M+. I’m at only 13% in my M+ set and Echo of Light overheals by 50%.

That’s more to do with healing approach with your secondaries than mastery itself. If you’re relying on impact healing to take people to 100%, then of course your mastery (regardless of high or low) will be full overhealing.

If you can parse the fights and know when to let Renew/Mastery have full effectiveness, then your mastery will have lower overhealing.

It’s really a personal preference, there’s talent support for both playstyles right now.

This is kinda necessary to do if you’re at a high enough key level though. Once you’re at the point where people are taking like half their health from a tick of a boss mechanic, echo isn’t enough to save them.

Probably true, I never really push keys past the maximum vault ilvl. However, I’d wager that Echo could be enough if you solve for mana. It’s part of the reason I’m messing around with the Azureweave set for the mana cost reduction. Echo is a very strong ramp. Something like Hyrja is heavy burst and there isn’t quite enough time to ramp Echo to appreciable levels with the movement into the circle and the random lightning.

Something like Nokhud storm boss is probably better designed on this front with an easy ramp to carry through.

The higher the key: the more stuff starts to hurt. On a +23 or higher: stuff starts hitting you so hard that you either die without defensives or you’re down to 5-10% hp. Some bosses will hit the group for 50-75% of their hp and you only get 10-15s to top everyone off in the group before people get one shot. This is why Haste and Vers are so valuable because you need those fast casts to top people off and the Vers helps you survive not getting one shot.

Although, I will say that Priests have incredibly good defensives this expansion compared to the last two. I can survive everything with the Fade + Flash Heal DR and PWS or Desperate Prayer.

I’m also playing more defensive builds with the -3% magic DR and the +5% leech for M+. I have around 10% leech talented in my M+ set and I don’t even need to heal myself because of Binding Heals + Leech healing.

This is good to hear. One of my biggest gripes with priest in previous xpacs was that it felt so much squishier than my rdruid.

In BFA and Shadowlands we were super squish because we literally only had GS and Desperate Prayer. Some boss mechanics would just flat out one shot me on higher keys if my defensives were down.

What we got now works because we have a 20-30s on demand -20% DR on-top of PWS and Desperate Prayer being a 45% hp buffer+heal. If I know something is about to smash me and I’m not full hp I usually pre-desperate prayer. Then you use Symbol of Hope after to reset it.

Yeah I’ve thought this too. We’re surprisingly tanky with DP, protective light and fade in dungeons, especially considering DP/fade cooldowns. Granted we’re still nowhere near as tanky in sustained damage as many other healers who have 50% DRs, but our DR is pretty constant.

I think you need mastery over well being it soothes over over powering

I don’t speak french, but it is a fluffer number that it is providing in M+ is the point.
It’s not saving lives when people take 75%+ dmg a hit. It’s not a raid where you have lulls of damage to just let people heal up and efficiency is king.

I thought about stacking crit/mastery/vers as a disc priest to try to make a big absorb build work, but I probably won’t make it through even farming a set to try it (if M+ dropped more gear maybe I’d try more random things to amuse myself). Not because I think it’d be competitive with meta builds, just because of boredom and trying to find something fun to do with an alt.

Already have a 417 ilvl druid stacking haste/vers so its boring for that to always be the thing to do. Also was considering trying to stack tert stats on an alt with the valor upgrades being uncapped, but quickly realized that wasn’t likely to happen. You’d need a team of friends feeding gear and armor stacking to make that a semi-reasonable goal.
