New lore on Azerothians in Revendreth *spoilers*

Thanks for the update! I find it interesting that the Butcher of Scholomance is considered redeemable. The more I read about characters in Revendreth, the more I agree with the theory that no soul ever goes straight from the Arbiter to the Maw, because Revendreth provides them one last opportunity to change.

Not really a theory, it’s just a problem of contradicting statements. 2019 Blizzcon said Arbiter can send souls to the Maw, but all the Actual Beta Questlines on the subject and the Revendreth cinematic say all souls are given one last chance before being condemned to the Maw (after being thoroughly drained of all Anima) and the Arbiter sends souls to Revendreth as a last resort.

If that world-destroyer character is considered redeemable, I’m truly curious what someone would have to do to go straight to the Maw. It’s starting to look like Uther’s insistence on being Arthas’ judge/jury/executioner with no fair “trial” is an unspeakable crime against Shadwolands “law.”

If you can destroy planets and eventually see the error of your way, then Arthas’ crimes are almost negligible by comparison. In light of this, Uther is really on my crap-list now: how dare he, a mortal that barely just came into existence, decide he knows better than those who have run the place for however many thousands of years?

Ah thank you, I don’t have beta access and was not aware that there were quests that actually stated that. It certainly makes sense to me if only from a security viewpoint to avoid giving the Maw anima, nevermind any moral considerations.

(Commentary): More blame would lay with Devos, who ascended Uther and told him to do it.

To be fair to Uther, he literally wasn’t his whole self at that moment, and he’s also new to the Shadowlands and doesn’t know how things are supposed to work, which is why he defers to Devos. Devos on the other hand would definitely know better.

Makes sense, now that I think about it. If there is an afterlife within the Void plane like there is with the Light, then walking bits of Old God dander are among the most likely candidates to go there, in my opinion.

HERESY! How dare they deprive the Mantid of lore! I’ll never stop championing for them.

Blizz please…

Inventing WMDs seem to get Souls straight to the Maw unless they have dedication to their people and their cause which Sylvanas lacked when she offed herself.

Of course considering what we know of the Shadowlands it seems likely that the Maw’s purpose is being perverted by Sire Denathrius and it’s just a place to send inventors of WMDs not a place of torment for the Unredeemables!

I have no doubt the Jailer was only sent to the Maw because Sire Denathrius himself suggested it.

Taking into consideration the fact that the Shadowlands isn’t in its best condition right now, are there any Shadowlands realms where it doesn’t feel like you are basically requested to have an eternity of servitude? It feels pretty rough that, like you know you work hard, you retire, you die, you get drafted again…

It is true that the realms we’re visiting are the core to the functioning of how the Shadowlands works as a Cosmic force in the universe. There is a responsibility there. Much is asked of the souls that go to Bastion. Again, we wanted to play with that, that notion of visually looking at it and seeing this kind of idyllic paradise, but they have a huge responsibility placed on their shoulders. Maldraxxus has a huge responsibility. Revendreth is all about taking these souls that have potential to either do something great or to be lost to darkness, and trying to save them. And Ardenweald takes care of these very important nature spirits that need to go back into the cycle and preserve that. So all of these realms have very important duties that they have to accomplish in order for the Shadowlands and realms beyond to function. But we have said that the Shadowlands is a place of infinite afterlives, and I certainly picture that there are places that are free of obligation, places that could just be an idyllic paradise for someone or a place of just unending punishment and torment, because they were just that bad, or just needed to endure something to pay them back for what happened in life… Any of those possibilities that you can imagine exists somewhere in the Shadowlands.

The real place for the irredeemables(rather than the military boot camp that the Jailer converted the Maw into) is probably going to be a surprise.

Krastinov being sent to Revendreth would seem to be an argument against Sylvanas being sent to the Maw for commissioning the development of the Forsaken Blight. Krastinov personally performed experiments to develop the Plague for the Cult of the Damned and delighted in torturing his subjects. He also assisted in the development of the the abomination. He was incredibly sadistic and depraved and was a significant player in the Cult of the Damned’s actions in Lordaeron.

The already invented Plague of Undeath creates Undead. Blight dissolves flesh. Necromancy is quite valuable to the Shadowlands.

One enslaves you while replacing your tether of Life Energies with Death Energies and the other straight up kills you painfully as it melts you down!

As far as the Arbiter is probably concerned the Plague of Undeath is a Mass Mind Control device(with bodily decay serving as an unavoidable side effect) while the Forsaken Blight is a particularly cruel WMD designed to kill you as painfully as possible!

Could be the Broken Shore/Najaztar or even the next Mechagon in 9.2.

To further compound on this post I should mentioned that the Maw was apparently once named Obleron.

Sounds a lot like Obliteration and Oblivion. Fitting for a place where Souls who invent WMDs that obliterate and destroy go while leaving the Souls who create WMEs(Weapons of Mass Enslavement) would go to Maldraxxus if they are redeemed in Revendreth first.

Is Garithos there too along with the Scarlets, Gilnean Nobles like Godfrey, and even Fandred Staghelm too in Revendreth?

(Humor): Due to a glitch with the Arbiter, Garithos is currently in Ardenweald in a grove run entirely by elves. They assumed he was some kind of Wild God and sealed him in a dream pod. The fact it hasn’t grown yet doesn’t bother them, as his screams cannot be heard through it.

…thanks a bunch for making me imagine, however briefly, that the mantid and quiraji are just Cthulhu’s scabies.

These are pretty cool. I appreciate that they’ve reused the offhand mention of Irmaat in Cataclysm both in Legion and now Shadowlands.

Organic matter seeped from the Old Gods’ blighted forms, giving rise to two distinct races. The first were the cunning and intelligent n’raqi, also known as the “faceless ones”. The second were the aqir, insectoids of incredible resilience and strength. - Chronicle, Volume I

They’re pretty gross when you get down to their origins.

all this time we’ve been fighting them with swords and magic when what we really needed was special shampoo!

How dare you even think that Purple Jesus was evil!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

But seriously though, I think that Revendreth was more bigoted to the naaru in general because of what a select few did.

M’uru was willing to die (and get tortured) to allow the blood elves to redeem themselves in the light. Does that sound like an evil doer?
