New LFG Tool

Is so laughably bad. Didn’t expect anything less from Blizz. Took an expansion where all they had to do was port it to the new client…and tried to reinvent the wheel by turning it into a square.

That’s exactly how the new LFG tool feels in beta, like a cart being drawn on square wheels. LFG Bulletin Board is still doing a better job at forming groups and it is a free addon. Did Blizz actually pay people to design the new LFG tool? Was it intentionally made to be awkward to spite us?

  • People still just spam chat to find groups
  • The UI is so large it makes it difficult to do anything other than stare at LFG tool screen
  • No chat filters for when people write msgs in the LFG tool
  • Doesn’t fix gatekeeping for specific class/spec meta chasers
  • People still don’t want to form groups. So full groups sit in LFG tool without being formed.

It’s funny how these “developers” (professionals btw) are making a worse tool than bulletin board addon. People will 100% be just listing themselves in the tool and spamming LFG and filter using bulletin board just like they are now with the one extra mandatory step to post in LFG. I would say something like Blizzard isn’t even trying, but they are trying; their staff is just utterly incompetent. I am looking forward to the excuses Brian B will give when his new tool is declared a failure. Actually, I’m sure he’ll just ignore that.

Really? It seems to me like all they did was add some icons to the LFG tool that they already had in TBC Classic. That doesn’t seem like much of a change tbh… and it’s not like I was expecting Dungeon Finder at the launch of WotLK Classic (nor at all, since they announced they won’t be adding it, but I hadn’t considered it to be the biggest feature of WotLK Classic).

Imagine if they had decided to launch Wrath Classic without Death knights? Now there’d be a topic worth posting about!

The tool is not designed to sustain 10,000+ listings. Simple as that.
It may look good on paper, with 5 people testing it, but the second you get even 20 people on there, it gets trashed.

  • As applicant, you can only apply to 1 group at a time.
  • As leader, you can only accept 1 person at a time.
  • No difference between leader & seeker.
  • As leader, you get zero info about who/what/why even applies. You could end up as group of 5 rogues.
  • There is no sorting/filtering.
  • LFG will get gutted by “WTS” spams instantly.
  • You can’t use LFG channel w/o being listed - because LFG channel will become the actual place for listings with the use of BB addon.
  • You still have to use whispers, and it’s basically same :poop: as we have today with BulletinBoard.
  • BB Addon is better as I can see content I want to do on main while I’m leveling alt, as LFG Tool actually has “level restrictions” on content that even is visible to you.

Overall, 3rd party addon we have now is a MUCH MUCH better than Blizzards “new invention”. It’s a horrible system that has a lot of drawbacks, that for some reason Devs are absolutely oblivious to.

You should add to your list:

  • Still doesn’t support the claim that group forming should be a social event in any way.

No what’s even funnier is that they are making an existing tool they have full access to worse.

Incompetence says hello? At this point I’m just wondering how long the current dev team(retail and classic) can coast on the success of the actual good devs from vanilla/TBC/Wrath.

Can a party not apply to join a group, as they can in Retail?

Doesn’t it show roles and class color?

This isn’t true. It caches listings. I’ve never actually used it, and don’t need it personally, but I often get whispers from people 5-10 minutes into a dungeon, asking to join… I ask, “Are you using an LFG addon?” And they always say yes.

When the person is solo “queue”, yes, It will show their level & class & role. Not spec! Role. So you won’t know if its a cat or a chicken, affi or desto & so on.

When it’s a “group queue”, then no, you don’t see their classes, but only roles.
Also, keep in mind, groups are not dynamically updated like they are on retail. (not 100% sure on this one, but you do have to hit Refresh button to update it all)

There is no group invite functionality in Classic. So you can’t apply as a group. There is really no “apply”, it like “suggest invite” type of thing.

That’s weird, because by default BB’s listings go away at 3 minutes if the poster didn’t port it again.

BB allows filtering. So I don’t have to snipe chat window moving at 100miles/hour with all raids/WTS/Boosts/Normals/Vanilla content stuff. You can filter it exactly to what you want.

Yeah, that’s the same as Retail. Is it a SV hunter or BM — don’t know? :woman_shrugging:

Hmm, I wonder why that’s different from Retail. I thought it was the same modern tool as is used in Retail.

Well, it’s possible that they are using a different LFG addon (or that BB doesn’t actually work the way you think it does), I suppose. It’s a mild annoyance (to me at least) that people whisper me asking for an invite quite often, 5-10 (or more) minutes after having a full party, and often well into an instance.

The default in LFGBB is 2 and a half minutes. For DPS anything other than 1 second is might as well ask.

But it is visible ONLY when they are solo listed like “LFG UK H” post in chat.
When they “apply” to group, leader gets a pop up in the middle for the screen in the same manner as “Suggest Invite” like on retail.

So if you listed your group, and I apply to it - All you gonna have is
"Holystripe wants to join your group".

Not who I am. Not what role I am. Or spec. Or Class. Nothing. Just the name.

Same core, just not all functions were copy-pasted. They can be. They just chose not to.

Hmm. That doesn’t sound great, but I suppose it’s more akin to the Dungeon Finder utility than to the modern retail group finder for M+/raids.

Right the dungeon finder we have in classic sucks, why are they trying to make a good tool worse?

um, no. Its close to retail LFG tool than it is to actual Dungeon Fnder. DF is an entirely different system. LFG tool in Wrath is garbo.

Here is a good reddit post

And here is a quick video on this very reddit thread by Scotte. (if you don’t want to read it)

That really depends on what you mean, I suppose. If it doesn’t show who is applying, nor their classes, then it’s just like Dungeon Finder in that respect, and nothing like Retail’s LFG tool, which does show class of everyone who is in a group, their roles, and their ilvls. And even their M+ rating.

I’d rather do neither, but if there is some information you’d like to share with those links as a reference, please feel free to do so.

LFG Tool has the same problem as chat, it’s whack a mole RNG.

What did you expect? You have inferior devs trying to make their mark on something their predecessors made great.

Its like having the winning lottery ticket but changing the numbers because the numbers you picked are what you think the winning numbers should have been

It’s a little more than that. Sure, that’s the noticeable UI change, but there is the “group invite request feature”…which doesn’t even list if you are healer or dps  . So the person forming the group doesn’t even know who or what role is sending them an invite request. It’s an absolute cluster.

Could it be weaponised incompetence…?

I told people any new tool will be useless/unused if it can’t cross realm. There won’t be anyone on there to find. Should have learned this from the first LFG tool.
