To all those excited about the level squish, do you really think it’s going to be as fast as 1-60 is now in retail? Really? While simultaneously selling boosts? Come on, now. Each level will simply take longer to reach. Just something to think about as you cheer on this ridiculous change.
I agree leveling needed a big re-work, but this is the absolute laziest way they could’ve gone about it. Just letting everyone quest anywhere with no connection to any of the past stories or continents? Why not just start everyone out at 50 and forget all about 15 years of work? They’re dismissing their own efforts by doing this. Just get ready for a long slog through levels again, like in Classic. I would be genuinely shocked if the time-to-level is decreased in any way.
Also, max level in Classic and Retail will now be the same. In what upside down world does that make sense, especially to new players?

Im not really sure classic leveling would appeal to retail players…

And yet, that’s what it’s going to feel like. Sure, people will be able to choose to level in Northrend etc. that might be smoother than in the Classic lands, but it’ll still feel slow. If anything I think it will feel more frustrating and encourage more boost sales. They know exactly what they’re doing.
I wonder how ilvl and mob scaling is going to work with this level squish. Imagine going from level 14 to 15 and suddenly mobs gain an additional 2k hp but your ilvl jumps from 42 to 78.
I don’t really care either way about this change… but I really doubt people think it’s going to be equal to the current 1-60 in BFA. That’s not at all what was implied when the change was announced in the panel.
They said you could level from 10-50 by doing just Pandaria alone. So it will probably be shorter if anything.

I would just be shocked if this was the case.
I only have to worry about leveling 50-60.
It might be slow but that doesn’t make it classic… I highly doubt blizzard is going to buff the difficulty of leveling that much in retail. To put it into perspective I don’t think there are elite mobs in the cata version of 1-60 outside of dungeons. Much less mobs your own level being a threat.
Seeing as it’ll be one expansions zone that gets you to 50, yes I do believe its going to be fast. It won’t be as slow as Classic is. They say they want you to get to end game a bit faster so I don’t see them bogging you down like that.
From what I saw on one the streams it will be faster to level cap than it has been in the past. If this is true, maybe they realize how much people love their alts and want to make up for the unfriendliness this expansion.
I for one, like the idea of an “Alt Friendly” expansion, especially considering most of the players are long time ones rather than new to the game.

How are they going to get people to group with one another if people can run every expansion from 10-50? That is what I want to know. MMOs try to funnel people into shared locations for a reason.
Well I liked the idea of having a pandaren skip to pandaria, or a death knight skip to wrath, or a draenei skip to bc. But yeah, I suppose it could be disjointed if you choose to take your pandaren to westfall or legion instead, or run him from westfall to outland to wrath to cata before going into pandaria… Might go gonzo and see if I can bring a lightforged death knight to westfall if they set hero classes to level 1…
Because of the scaling, there is ZERO connection to the past lore, so who cares. If someone wants to break their back side and do every zone, have at it! I LOVE the idea i can just go to Pandaria and relax and level to 50! Or any other expansion for that matter.
I do not think they are going to slow down the leveling to a classic level, they have classic for that. Doing so would be slitting their own throats, because IF it IS anything like classic as far as the slog, then they better be ready for a MASS EXODUS!
Thats why i will not use my boost, because if it does turn out it will be like classic, i get my refund, and just quit gaming period. This is the only game i can handle at my age and with my many disabilities.

I HIGHLY doubt retail leveling will ever feel like classic. There’s no way retail would be slowed to the pace of classic. Not sure why anyone would even think that…
Actually, I could see them adjusting exp needed to level to keep it the same. But the fact they seem to expect people to spend 40 levels in a single expansion, and the expansions were mostly all 5-10 level things… it suggests they won’t slow levelling down. Granted we were outlevelling most expansions well before we finished them, so it might take an actual 40 levels to finish one and feel longer in the sense that we’re not skipping out halfway through each expansion. (Right now you can do 100-110 as you finish one zone in legion if you’re pet battling or wearing heirlooms.) I wouldn’t expect it to take a longer time to clear those 40 levels than it does now, just that we’d be spending 40 levels mopping up a single expansion. I suppose we’ll see what blizz does though - they’ve adjusted levelling speeds plenty of times in the past.
I am curious how they will handle the ‘level cap’ type quests in each expansion though. Maybe they’re just removing the level requirements on quests and letting them unlock if you did all the preceding quests.

Leveling sucks now.
I’m glad they’re doing something to change it. You don’t know how it’ll play out, I don’t know how it’ll play out. Let’s let them change the formula up a little bit and see what happens before our pitchforks start coming out.
It sure as hell can’t get any worse.

Because thats what all these classic people have been asking for, and with our luck, that will be the ONE thing Ion actually uses feedback from these forums for (he did say hes been listening). I do not trust him as far as i can throw him, and tbh, i would not be able to even lift him lol.
So color me skeptical.

Considering classic has exactly 1 cemetery per zone and maybe 1-2 flight paths per zone, no mounts until level 40, and no flying ever, one hearthstone, no flightmaster whistles, no heirlooms, can fight 1-2 monsters at the same time, run out of mana, no level scaling… pretty sure blizzard would go under if they slowed retail levelling that much. I think the classic crowd are people less concerned with levelling and more interested in playing an rpg game and getting skill points for punching pigs with our barehands. (That rpg part of the mmorpg.)
It won’t be like classic leveling.
Unless you spend 98% of your time running.
