Now that I’ve leveled and goofed off a bit with Shadow I’m planning on going heals. I hear Disc is better, but also more difficult so I think I’ll go Holy. I played Holy back in vanilla but havent played since then. I read that there isn’t really a rotation, more just reacting to incoming damage. So do I renew tank on his way in, renew any small damage from DPS, flash heal to cap, prayer or circle of healing for any medium AOE damage? I forget what they are, but do I pop my cooldowns on rotation or just when the fight ramps up? I don’t know anything about talents and will probably just find a video or website and copy theirs. Are they’re any talents yall feel are mandatory? Like I said I’m new, so I probably wont push high mythic+, more like low/medium mythic, heroics and some raiding with my guild. I took Necrolords for the fleshcraft.
No need to hard cast Renew on people.
Right now some people (including myself) are running Benediction talent so when you cast PoM you have a chance it will leave a Renew on the target it heals.
Pretty much you will be casting Flash Heal most of the time.
Don’t be afraid on using your holy words, don’t save them just for critical situations, it can help you top people too if they’re <50%.
Prayer of Mending (PoM) should be used on cooldown.
Circle of Healing (CoH) should be used on cooldown when group healing is needed.
For Dungeons I recommend you Apotheosis and for Raids Salvation or Light of the Naaru.
Prayer of Healing (PoH) + Prayer of circle talent is a great combination for doing massive AoE healing when needed.
Also remember that Divine Hymn gives a 10% healing increase buff, it comes handy when AoE dmg is happening so you pop divine hymn buff and then Circle of Healing followed by spam cast of Prayers of healing for a lot of AoE healing.
Necrolord covenant ability is kinda meh, I would recommend you go Venthyr or Kyrian as both abilities are doing better than Fleshcraft/Unholy Nova right now.
For conduits best ones right now are Resonant Words and Holy orations, so look for them.
Legendaries: Xanshi, Flash concentration, Harmonious Aparatus. Those 3 seems to be the best ones so far.
Hello, welcome to the wonderful world of Holy Priest. : )
I did M+ 20s last season so I’ll try and will focus just on the dungeon aspect of things.
You are correct that Holy is more about reacting to the situation because you have different AoE heals, a HoT, and single target heals. Some of them have smart AI and others don’t.
I tend to go Renew heavy and right now it’s running as my #1 heal in dungeons because as soon as somebody takes damage I usually apply it on them. I also try and keep a 80-90% uptime on the tank with it while they’re taking damage. It’s mana efficient and lets you worry about high priority targets over others because your HoT can do the work topping other members of the group up.
Your single target heal is primarily going to be Flash Heal. Heal can be used in situations that are low-threat, but it has a slow cast time. Holy Word Serenity is your big-boy heal and can heal people for like 50% or more of their hp.
So in normal situations you want to try and dump Serenity on people that take big hits first because each subsequent cast of Flash Heal / Heal reduces the 60s cooldown of Holy Word Serenity by 6s (scales with Light of Naaru + Holy Oration).
For group healing you basically want to cast Circle of Healing and Prayer of Mending on cooldown. Holy Word Sanctuary is your big boy AOE heal with a small radius so you usually want to drop it in the middle of the group when a few people drop below 70% hp. This one tends to be the slowest to get back up because it takes Renew/Prayer of Healing casts to reset its cooldown.
Divine Hymn is your major group heal on a 3 minute cooldown and it can heal the group for quite a lot of hp in dungeons since its healing amount is doubled. You use this when the group is at like 50% of lower HP and it will almost guaranteed fully heal everyone.
Prayer of Healing is your spammable group heal, but it doesn’t heal for much, and is mana expensive. You’ll get most of your bonus out of Echo of Light out of it and it resetting the cooldown of Sanctuary faster. You usually want to spam this one if the entire group is at like 50% HP or lower and it works best when everyone has Renew on them.
Your tank defensive is Guardian Spirit which can be talented down to a 1 minute cooldown. How tanks work is they mostly heal themselves through self-healing or absorbs. My Prot Paladin for example can build up 3 Holy Power and use Word of Glory which heals for like 25% of my hp and getting that extra 65% healing means I can self-heal myself for 40% of my hp.
So this cooldown doesn’t work as a direct damage mitigation feature, but allows the tank, and yourself (plus others) to heal themselves better. Also, it’s on a one minute cooldown which means you can use it almost every other trash pack.
When it comes to damage: your main damage spell is going to be Shadow Word Pain. You want to tab-target apply it to each pack (usually like 3 mobs) and try and keep it up. Cast Holy Fire and Chastise on cooldown and use Smite.
Right now its fairly lucrative to spam Holy Nova because you can pull off like 2k-3k AOE dps in trash pulls and still manage to do 1k HPS. Don’t rely on Holy Nova to solely heal the group though.
These are the talents I run atm:

I’m not much of a fan of Trail of Light since it really doesn’t heal for much… it’s like 5-8% of my overall healing. You can swap Apotheosis at the bottom tier, but I use Light of the Naaru (it stacks with Holy Oration) because I hardly ever used Apotheosis and it’s better to just have that passive reduction than rely on something you might use once a dungeon.
