New GPU, same FPS

Hello, I recently replaced a GTX 1060 6 GB with an RTX 3070 but I’m getting exactly the same FPS as before and the recommended in game graphics setting remains set to a “5”, which is what it was when my 1060 was installed.

I’ve updated all NVIDIA drivers and installed all Windows Updates to ensure those are up to date. I’ve also uninstalled all add ons, uninstalled the game and reinstalled after deleting all files, deleted the config file to allow the game to create a new one, and renamed my Cache, Logs, and WTF files to allow the game to create new ones as well.

I’ve also set everything I can find to high performance, including power management in Windows settings and well as in the NVIDIA Control Panel, and I’ve manually selected the graphics card as the RTX 3070 rather than “auto-detect” in the advanced systems menu in the game.

My husband has a very similar processor to mine and has a GTX 970 and is getting very similar frame rates as me when we both put our characters in the same location. When he opens Windows Task Manager to view his GPU usage, it stays around 95 - 99% usage. I switched back to my GTX 1060 to see its usage and it’s staying around 85 - 90% usage with graphics set to “5” in game. When I replace the 1060 with the 3070 and view its usage, it stays right around 35% with graphics set to “5”. When I set the graphics to “10” with the 3070, it keeps the usage right around 35% and just drops the frame rate, seemingly to maintain that usage of 35%.

Any advice? Would dearly love to put the 3070 to good use and get some good frames out of it.

Shounds like the cpu might be what is holding you back. What cpu do you have

Intel 6500, so it’s definitely an older one, but looking at task manager it seems to be around 70% utilization most of the time. I wasn’t terribly concerned because it seemed like there was still headroom on it, but maybe that was a bad assumption…

Definitely sounds CPU bound then. Your GPU can’t render a frame until the CPU tells it to.

If you want to use some more power from your GPU, which won’t really increase FPS, you can probably set your resolution up higher or turn on antialiasing or up your graphics settings. Since the majority of all of those things are done on the GPU, you shouldn’t take too large of a hit doing so.
