Posted this in Tech Support, but got a message telling me to post it here…
I asked someone to “build” me a system I could use to play WoW with all graphic settings to maximum. I asked him to keep it under $2500. Here is what I’m getting. I am looking for a second opinion: Will this do it? I was hoping for a system I could be using 8 years from now. Since I am NOT computer (hardware) literate, any thoughts would help. Here are the specs:
Case : Corsair 4000D Airflow
Exterior Color : Black
Laser Etching : None
Processors: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core 3.4GHz (4.5GHz Max Boost)

Memory: 32GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB RT 3200MHz (2x16GB)
System Cooling: Corsair H60i PRO XT
System Fans: ORIGIN PC Standard Fan Kit
Graphics Cards: NVIDIA 8GB GeForce RTX 3070
Operating System: MS Windows 11 Home
Operating System Drive: 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2
RAID : No RAID
Power Supply: CORSAIR CS750 SERIES PLUS GOLD
Power Supply Sleeved Cable : No Sleeved Cable

I am also getting a new monitor: SAMSUNG 32" Odyssey G65B QHD 240Hz 1ms (GTG) HDR 600 Gaming Hub 1000R Curved Gaming Monitor
Your graphics card is fine.
Your memory is fine
I’m not terribly familiar with that motherboard but I would just look up reviews.
If your power supply is over 500 That should be fine.
Even what the face lift, this game is not that intensive.
When you say “that’s pretty good” about the ssd, do you mean it should be better? Again, I know nothing about hardware and what’s important and what’s not.
Seems decent, but a couple of things jump out at me as a bit odd.
It looks like the cooler (Corsair H60i PRO XT) is an AIO with a 120mm radiator, which is tiny for water cooling standards and is probably not going to let you get the most out of your CPU. I would recommend an air cooler which depending on the model should get you better cooling for the price.
The monitor isn’t bad per se but QHD (2560x1440) is going to look kinda blocky when stretched out to 32". The minimum resolution I’d run at 32" is 4k, but that’s not budget friendly so in your case it would probably be better to buy a 27" QHD monitor that’s not curved, because at 27" even a slight curve feels weird.
What do you have now? That would help big time to help you. I bought a PC just for DF and i am so pleasently surprised it is a monster for DF, and i cost me a piddly $1200! Let me know what you have and i can definately help you. You do NOT need a 3070 to have a great computer for DF, WoW is more CPU intensive!
Processor: Intel(R) Core™ i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz 3.10 GHz|
RAM: 6.00 GB
AMD Radeon HD 7570
60Hz LG 32" monitor
A situation arose where this new system is being purchased for me to settle an outstanding debt. So this wasn’t a matter of if I could just upgrade or not. As I said before, my main concern was “can I play WoW with ALL graphic settings set to maximum for at lest the next few years”.
I would consider having a secondary drive for storage. 1TB isn’t much these days. My OS drive is 1TB and I have 4TB of storage. My OS drive is 75% full and the 4TB is at least half full. The idea here is to only put the most necessary things on your OS drive (or things that don’t give you a choice) and run everything else (including WoW) off the storage drive. Additional: When I call it a “storage” drive, I’m talking about an internal drive, not an external one. External drives are for longer term storage or things you don’t access regularly (I also have an 8TB drive for this, which is barely at 25%).
Personally, I would call 32GB pretty standard right now. Anything less and you’re could run into issues down the road.
I am. It’s a decent MOBO. I have a similar one and it runs just fine and has a decent amount of USB ports on it.
Not particularly fond of this. This is a pretty basic case and I feel like you could have gotten “more” for the same money (or less). My case ran only about $100 and the front panel (situated low in front) has several USB ports and separate mic and headphone jacks (for those that don’t use USB).
I like everything else there though. Decent build other than the “cons” I’ve mentioned (adding a secondary drive and maybe getting a better case).
If nothing else, it’s relatively little money to never have to think about memory in any imaginable day to day use scenario for many years, and dramatically reduce the amount of writing to the pagefile which should reduce SSD wear.
Probably true, I don’t have any personal experience with liquid cooling, I just know that 120mm AIOs are basically useless unless you’re cooling an APU in an office PC or something.
No you will not be able to. I bought a system for the first time without building my own. Its a i7-12700K, Gigagyte 3060TO OC, with 16GB 3200 ram i have OC’d withing the bios, A B660 MoBo(not really a gaming MoBo as a 690 MoBo or higher) and a 1 TB MV HD. It was far more inexpensive than building my own. The only thing i had to turn down was shadows from ultrs so far. I an running the game without V-sync at 70-170FPS.
Like i said before, i bought this for DF, yet i canceled my sub when they bach tracked the dailie WQ decision. I will resub when they take their heads out of their behinds!
GL, and as i said WoW is way more CPU intensive than GPU! Just do NOT get a 3050 card, because they are crap!
