New Gaming Monitor

Hello,

I’m looking for recommendations for a new gaming monitor.

4k
Gsync
Ultra wide
Curved
32 inches minimum
OLED?
$1,200 CAD or less.

Thanks!

Dont listen to slick marketing. They are not curved for immersion. the only reason so many monitors are curved now days is the majority of the “curved” monitors are VA panels. It makes the color fading from left to right MUCH less noticeable. So thank VA panel makers for starting this “curved craze”

Im using the 42" LG C2 currently as are most OLED gamers. Mainly due to the fact that is has a Dual Firmware. TV Firmware and LG Ultragear Firmware for when used as a monitor. At 42" its also pretty much the MAX size you would want as a Monitor thats not wall mounted. I LOVE my C2. Another reason people like the C2 is unlike most OLED monitors its not matt finish. Its a Glossy Finish. Makes the colors pop more

The LG C3 is around $800-900 USD depending on where you get it from. Not sure about Canada. Yes both the C2 and C3 have Gsync on the Ultragear Firmware. The C4 just came out too but its MUCH more than the C3. All 3 models also have TRUE HDR as an added side note

Also for what you are looking for I hope you are on a RTX 4090 or 7900 XTX. At 4k you will pretty much need it in any game other than wow

I agree that the LG oled tv’s make great pc gaming monitors. I’ve been using a CX 48" for several years now. No degradation/burn in btw.

I also agree that curved monitors are not desirable. I have an alienware 34" curved ultrawide. It is nice, but I’d now prefer it to be flat.

That being said, the new generation (3?) of oled pc monitors are very impressive. LG and Samsung are manufacturing most of the panels being used.

Similar size/spec monitors from different manufactures are likely using the same panels. The main difference will be features/price, with similar picture quality. The new generation of oleds are mostly 27-34 inch, I believe.

There are quite a few youtube channels like “monitors unboxed” that do reviews of many different models.

I run wow at 4k with a 2080 and 9900k, capped at 90fps where it usually stays.

Thanks everyone, I’ll take a look at the LG OLED options on the weekend.

I would definitely recommend looking at the 42" LG C3

For the price it really can’t be beat and I love the fact that unlike most OLED monitors it’s actually got the glossy finish. The matte finish dulls the colors in my opinion. I mean OLED colors pop already but the glossy finish just makes them really really pop.

Just digging around on amazon a little.

The C3 42 is almost exactly 1200 cad. That is a very nice display if you have space.

The new OLED pc monitors are still way too expensive, and mostly curved

On the C3, to get more than 60fps at 4k (4:4:4) you will need to have at least an rtx 3xxx series card that has hdmi 2.1 interfaces. No 2xxx series (or below) cards have them as far as I know. Someone correct any errors pls.

Thanks, I have a RTX 3090 and an i9-13900K CPU, I think I can handle this monitor.

Think I’ll purchase the C3 today or tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!

Just follow the settings setup video I linked above :stuck_out_tongue:

ALso make sure the 1st thing you do!
Menu → General—> HDMI Settings—> HDMI Deep Color
Select 4k.

That’s a monitor I was ogling at recently as well. I’m getting a new gaming system this summer to replace my almost 7 year rig. Waiting on finances to settle a bit but yeah I think august is the month.

Running Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor - AW3423DW myself and I absolutely thing curved feels more immersive than pancake personally.

On that note, the only box the aforementioned monitor doesn’t meet is the 4k aspect, but it’s largely my favorite monitor currently on the market and I highly recommend checking it out.

OP already bought the 42" LG OLED C3

Id say this topic is over :man_shrugging:

Ah totally missed it. Well now I kinda want the C3 42inch…

I have the LG c2 42" and its Amazing. Snagged its for 500$ as an OPEN BOX like new from Best Buy when C3 dropped. Best part is when I go to watch a video on youtube it fills the screen. Unlike those annoying black bars on Ultrawide

Yes, I bought the C3 42inch new on Amazon for over $1,700 CAD.

It’s been a week and I can say that I love it. However, one of the things that’s bothering me is that when my gaming PC comes out of sleep mode, the TV doesn’t automatically come back on to HDMI 4 (where my PC is connected). I have to power cycle the TV and manually choose the input I want. Yes, this is a minor issue for most people. Yes, I have “game mode” active.

It’s also worth mentioning that you absolutely need a HDMI cable that’s 2.1 certified if you plan on using Gsync (VRR), or even 4k. If anyone is looking to use a TV like this as a monitor, please make sure your HDMI cables are certified for the 2.1 standard.

I went with these (I have no affiliation with this brand/company)

Cables 2-Pack 6.6FT, Stouchi (Certified) found on Amazon, $19 CAD.

I have disabled sleep mode on my PC and have my PC screen saver set to 2min. The TV it self goes to sleep after 3-4min. Doing this however circumvents that and makes sure if I step away for a bit the TV stays on without going into its “sleep mode”. As an added Bonus the screen saver protects it from possible burnin while doing so.

Just a small Tip

Thanks, I’ll try this tonight.

Just pick an active screensaver like mystify are ribbons to keep the TV from going to sleep

Personally I ended up with an Asus PG-42UQ. The Asus uses an LG C2 panel, but is a computer monitor and supports the power management modes.

I imagine with enough work it’s a non issue, these LG are common monitors and some of the few OLED panels available, so you can find a solution to most problems. For example, if you are feeling experimentive:

Yes, exactly. Monitors support the power management features of modern PC’s. I was able to find (in the TV settings) an option to have the TV default to HDMI 4 when powered on.
