One thing ive noticed is that very few newer flying mounts have actual landing/ground animations. the newest of course being the bee. it has feet let it LAND and walk around. Would love to get some official response on this and why mounts simply cannot land and stand on their own feet when their npc versions have the animations already made to simply copy and paste. Is it shear laziness or is there an actual acceptable reason that I and other players are unaware of.
You are expecting too much from GD.
the older flying mounts could land. my point is why did they stop making those animations it make no since other that just being plain lazy
It took a LONG time for druid flightform to get a landing animation (the 2 person version). I imagine it will come with time but it’s probably a low priority (maybee?)
Some older flying mounts could land. Generally birds don’t land, neither do cloud serpents or mounts that use the cloud serpent model. There’s probably more, but those are the ones i can think of atm.
the ones that couldnt back then were unique models. when there is a readily available code from npc and enemies it is pure laziness to not simply copy paste that code onto the mount version. the bee in particular as is the hot mount to get atm. we’ve all seen their wild versions land every day since bfa came out their is no excuse to not have them land and scurry around
Better yet, make them like Sea Turtles and only move at running speed.
“But mah optimized movements!”
Too bad. Mounts are cosmetics. Make them cool and fun.
But they should. My flight form bird lands. So does my owl. I don’t see why that couldn’t be applied to the Rogue crow or Friendship Birb or our Pathfinder bird. It’s essentially the same rig, if I’m not mistaken.
And cloud serpents would look amazing if they landed. Kinda like Haku: https://data.whicdn.com/images/119287695/original.gif
ID be fine with that as long as they land when im not moving
Imagine your bird mounts clumsily hopping about like a crow with you on their back. Or cloud serpents slithering along like snakes.
… so long as Blizzard can code them to move more like the actual game “Snake” than current snake models in-game which pivot on a central point when you turn.
Honeyback Harvester does land to do its wiggle dance.
Would be cool if cloud serpents had an animation for coiling up like snakes when you press and hold the hot key to sit.
i put my money on this.
Okay, the Bee I can vouch for not having ground running animations when mounted.
A bee’s internal temperature rises exponentially to ensure it can gain altitude. It’s wings give it lift and control. If it was running on it’s legs, it would be expending vastly more energy since it has to move each leg and maintain the pattern of movement. It would be more efficient to fly instead of walk for a bee. This is explained by the fact that bees don’t travel long distances on foot, but by flight.
It’s basic entomology really…
A bee carrying a significant weight like an adventurer, say a towering Night Elf or a Bulky Draenei(male), it would be more efficient to fly to carry someone that distance, and given it’s reptilian nervous system is what allows it to stay alive, it’s not that difficult to come to this conclusion.
“What is a Reptillian nervous system?” you may ask. That’s the basic nervous system that instincts operate on. Reflexes, stimuli, etc, these subconscious functions are all in our reptilian nervous system.
Our mammalian or conscious nervous system, sapience, sentience, what makes us able to adapt to things that have not come yet, is what makes the bulk of our brains. It’s also the reason as to why more intelligent creatures like humans and horses have such larger brains, even velociraptors have larger brains compared to dinosaurs of similar size and even larger size. The reptilian nervous system is really a small part of the brain. The complex nervous system that lets us be creative is what makes the bulk of our brains.
Basically, a bee has a very small and simple nervous system based on instinct, and as a simpler lifeform, it can commit to such unsavory things like incest with no penalty due to the vastly simpler genetic code when compared to a human or dog.
And then there’s the proto-drake ground run animation. Cracks me up every time.
I appreciate the facts n’ all but since we are dealing with a 7 foot bumble bee that can carry around a whole lot of man like me… I think science has to take a back seat and let us walk that sucker around.
Snakey cloud serpents would also be very adorable.
A bee running over land to travel somewhere would be far more strange than flying, so can’t say I agree with you. The mountspecial still has it land and do a little bee move on the ground though
Flying mounts with no ground animation date back to when flying mounts were introduced. Sha’tari nether rays.
Of course the preponderance of them right now is likely to cut down on dev and animation costs. I figure the art team has carried this xpac hard enough, I can’t be too annoyed at them for cutting a corner like that.
You’re a big fella. A giant bee walking around would be exhausted all too quickly! That bee behind must have a gas lighter than oxygen like helium keeping it airborne. so it can fly! It’d be stupid on the Bee’s end to walk around with a big fat mammal on it’s back.
The science makes more sense. The fact it’s airborne when traveling over the ground normally is the bee restraining itself for the sake of stamina, and flying faster in the air is to cover more ground.
The fact it’s a queen suggests is likely needs a LOT of nectar to nourish it, including royal jelly… Royal jelly is delicious btw! Great in a LOT of meals! I recommend using it if you can get your hands on any!
I prefer mounts that could be seen as ground mounts but that can also fly.
