New DK Covenant Abilities just shows how bad this system will be

It gets to 2% with 3 Frostwhelp. Its still lags behind in ST.

You don’t need to run frostwhelp’s indignation for it to be good. Primarily since the generic traits are so much better than the class specific ones.
Let alone a 2% difference is extremely small.

Even for a 40k parse you’re still talking a 800 DPS difference.

BOS is picked because it handles disconnects better due to the greater burst period, but you can still be on the bleeding edge utilizing frost cap, and mind that you dont need to stacy frostwhelps either

In fact, you would use Icy Citadel, which is worse than our generic traits

The numbers aren’t so much the point as the fact that those abilities make you choose between AoE, single target, etc. And it’s not something you can really swap between. Switching covenants isn’t going to be easy. And these abilities are all so different that there isn’t going to be room for choice, depending on the type of content you run.

These are abilities that should have been in the talent system, not another throwaway system.

Yes you do, because the mastery gain it gives with the Icecap build is just straight powerful and puts it par based on the fights and the procs.

Icecap is basically a small-pull/pug build.

No, BoS is picked because the damage potential is so much higher than both while providing both great ST and AoE.

It parces higher than Icecap in both, because of its infinitely better burst window.

I got 2 gray parses, but im fine with it because im progressing on Mythic Azshara right now.

I take it.

My group just raids basically for fun, I cared more about my parses in Legion because the power tweaking with relics and such was more fun than grinding essences. There was more variety in legendaries per encounter, so I was more motivated to seek out ways to tweak my build.

Here I don’t care. And Heroic drive has fallen as the raids have gone on, not enough people are interested in pushing Heroic and people who push Heroic have already raided at least once by the time our raid night comes around and aren’t enjoying pushing enough to do it twice. Especially if they’ve done Mythic with their other guild.

So interest as a whole has fallen off and I can skate with gray parses in normals because ilvl and stats care enough to be lazy with my rotation.

Except that your bread and butter damage stems from Obliterate which does not benefit from Mastery increases. You would run Icy Citadel instead for the strength increase which benefits ALL your abilities. Even then, it isn’t necessary because generic traits are stronger than ICy Citadel on sim. So you really don’t require it.

You can run the frostcap build and you’ll be behind BoS only because of how BOS tolerates periods of inactivity better than an ice cap build.

Biceppumps covers it far better than I do, and in greater detail as well with the Sims to match.

The better burst window is what makes it more tolerant of periods where you cannot attack the boss. You’re trading in a more stable damage parse for one with greater peaks and troughs. As a result, because of that greater peak, you’re able to mitigate those troughs where you’re not dealing damage.

THat is why BoS is picked.
If you’re on a boss who doesn’t force you to disconnect at any point, such as the Rage of Azshara, you can freely utilize frostcap without a significant loss of damage.

Here’s a tip, screw min-maxing and have fun. There is 0 point trying to be in the top 2% because, another fun tip, you won’t be.

I’m going to put my characters in factions thematic to themselves. Also, you can have multiple of each class easily now with the leveling reduction and more alt-friendly aspects of SL.

So, have your min-maxed ubermensch, and your fun RP toon.

So…“Player Agency” as in, not having to actually make a real decision, because you can easily and quickly change to whatever is the bis set up for any given scenario?

One ACTIVE imho is not the end of the world here i swear some people here are being over dramatic imho.

But there is a way to change it making this trend pointless to be made in the first place.

Problem comes when you have characters you’re very attached to thanks to titles or special mounts. My Druid and DK both have the Lady of War title which if I switched to an alt DK or Druid would lose which sucks, and my Paladin has a Swift Nether Drake from Season 1 so I can’t bring myself to level another and not have access to that mount.

Except we’ve been told the cost would be “significant” so that doesn’t bode well to anyone that likes to play multiple roles. RIP this druid.

It wouldn’t be so bad if blizzard let us play through the previous expansion while leveling with everything included or most things. ive always wished that we still had the talent tree on our legendary weapons so we could have fun doing that when we go through legion but now we can only do the relics. they also should fix legion so we have to go through argus and the broken shore as well as suramar.

where have we heard this before.
“don’t worry, it’s not even in alpha”
“don’t worry, it will be fixed in beta”
“they will tune it in the PTR”
yeah…

Oh don’t talk to me, Grey Parser. You need to parse Green before you speak to the likes of me.

They really need to do multiple options for each Covenant/class combo. At least 3, then it can be like a Shadowlands-only talent tier.

Too.
Many.
Min Maxers.

A DK in the Night Fae would be awesome, just to become a (Death’s Head) moth.

I like all of the abilities, they have flavor. Venthyr strikes me as an AoE slayer, Undead spec may love it, especially if it ties into their adjusted talent trees well. It’s basically Vampiric Mist from Castlevania.

It’s not even min max for dmg as it is for utility as well.

Lets take an UH DK as an example who likes playing arenas more than anything. If you’re fighting a melee heavy team and are expecting to take a lot of dmg you will want Kyrian, VS ranged that can kite you Necrolord would be a godsend…but wait! You’re best friend just said he’s coming back to play Shadowlands and can’t wait to run mythic + where Night Fae is going to be required. If I was a tank and an UH DK wanted to come it would be Night Fae or no invite.

I can’t wait to see the dungeon listings requiring specific covenants and forum posts of people complaining they are being declined from randoms because they picked the wrong covenant and the requirements to switch are too hard. We’ll have people quitting the game just like they did over RNG legion legendary items and Azerite armor just basically existing.
