New DK Covenant Abilities just shows how bad this system will be

Death’s Due - Night Fae
Instant, 30 yard range, 45-second cooldown
The targeted ground begins to wilt, dealing 14,250 Nature damage over 10 seconds to targets within the area. Drain power from each enemy within the area, reducing their damage done by 10 percent and increasing your strength by 80 for 10 seconds.

Shackle the Unworthy - Kyrian
Instant, 30-yard range, 1-minute cooldown
Admonish your target for their past transgressions, reducing the damage they deal to you by 5 percent and dealing 1,678 Arcane damage over 14 seconds. Shackle the Unworthy’s cooldown is reduced by 4 seconds when you damage the affected enemy with a Rune-spending attack.

Swarming Mist - Venthyr
Instant, 1-minute cooldown
A heavy mist surrounds you for 8 seconds, increasing your Avoidance by 311. Deals 136 Shadow damage every 1 second to enemies within 10 yards. For each enemy damaged, you gain 3 Runic power.

Abomination Limb - Necrolord
Instant, 1.5-minute cooldown
Sprout an additional limb for 8 seconds, dealing 4,900 Shadow damage every 2 seconds to the nearest enemy. If the enemy is farther than five yards from you, they are pulled to your location.

These are so not balanced even in the slightest.

I know they’ll tune these to make them closer to each other, but man you can clearly see there are certain ones that are far better for certain content.

Night fae is super strong in aoe
Kyrian is super good for tanks in raiding and in pvp
venthyr is really bad with those numbers.
necrolord is okay, but could have use in pvp. and at the same time dks already have grip, why would we need another that could be a random pull

this new system will clearly not let you pick which you think is cool, but will force most players to pick a certain one regardless of which covenant they actually like.

Please blizzard. Change this now, or dont tie these abilities to the covenants. Allow us to pick the covenant we want and then we work towards which ability we want. The generic one can stay, but these class ones need to change or allow us to pick which ability we want without having to sacrifice the covenant we want

Welp, looks like we’re going to be seeing a lot of DKs with fairy and angel wings.

Numbers are not final. The Abilities may not make it to live. Shadow is not even in Alpha.

I think people are going to be dissapointed here…

This is just the tip of the iceberg guys. You realize this right?

They already have in development fully integrated soulbind systems for each class, unique to the covenants. The class unique abilities are just as I said, the tip of the iceberg.

Every covenant will unlock even further talent like options for us, as this is the “talent” system they’re bringing back.

If people react this way to class unique abilities for each covenant, It’ll be interesting to see how they’ll react to the covenant class unique talent system coming…

yep, this has trainwreck written all over it.

blizzard: stop tying class abilities to rented player progression systems and pvp. just stop it. stop. stop doing it. stop with this nonsense.

gods this is going to be terrible next xpack. i guess on the flipside to all of this as a monk player. none of the covenants aesthetically match anything even in the realm of the imagination of a monk player to tie in with this hodgepodge thematic mess of the monk class in wow. so i guess monks are free to choose whatever covenant they want because none of the visual match anyway.

also looking at what DKs are getting, and how hybrids work in general in wow, all of the monk ones will just be random stat amps. i cannot see spouting a random mini death gripping limb would work for something like a mistweaver compared to a windwalker ( in other words, for the hybrids its going to be real generic garbage because something a windwalker and brewmaster might want a mistweaver very likely wont want ). so the hybrids in wow are going to get real boring unimaginative trash on top of this terrible system.

i think it really might be time to move on. blizz are beyond clueless to there playerbase now.

I agree I am sick of grinding for rented power. If they want to implement a system that will be built upon in the future thats fine but its getting old.

Thats cool, but how well do the benefit from the talent trees?

I try to be optimistic and give blizzard the benefit of the doubt on these things but… I’m forced to agree. Night Fae is far and away the best. Kyrian seems good but not as good. The other two aren’t even close, and it doesn’t seem like simple number tuning could fix it.

Better for what?

On the instant blizzard said there’s going to be actual abilities tied to your covenant choice I knew this was coming, you can even check my post history and you’ll see, I mentioned this was coming, multiple times.

Now we’ll have to link io, aotc AND our covenant to join groups.

Covenants are going to be a bigger disaster than Azerite.

There is going to be clear BIS for pvp, raiding, M+, openworld. There’s going to be clear BIS for different specs. For different specs in different content.

BIS will potentially change with your talent setup or stat weights.

What will happen when Blizzard starts hotfixing or patching? Suddenly your first choice becomes the worst, but there will be a ‘meaningful’ cost to change?

Shadowlands is shaping up to be an expansion you hold off on playing for a good 12 months.

You’ll miss the awful covenant balance, the boring first raid tier. You’ll skip most of the timegating and you’ll benefit from all the catch up gear and mechanics.

Everything. The Night Fae ability does the most damage, multi or single target, and is basically a big raid damage reduction cooldown. Shorter cooldown…I can’t envision a scenario where you pick another over it except for flavor.

You know Blizzard. They might tune numbers a little bit, but you know once they say something the chances of it being final is almost 100%, they rarely go back on their dumb decisions unless people stop paying.

Cool, I’ll just not fight you in it and use my OP ability that doesn’t require the enemy to be a back peddler. You also are going off unfinished numbers that some of that could just be taken away. Monks had a talent that let them teleport to players, didn’t see live.

That necrolord ability sounded cool in my head until I remembered certain filthy mythic affixes

What?

Yeah sure but hope isn’t a method.

Meh, I was already going to pick Night Fae for my DK alt because I like the wooden plate armor.

Still am regardless of abilities.

Kyrian for my warrior and Necrolord for my paladin.
