I agree with the sentiment that this particular patch was really bad. There’s some good, but I think for Void-Scarred it’s been a dumpster fire. I do not PvP, so I’m speaking purely about PvE Raid scenario (specifically Mythic Raid), which is what I think most of their tuning metrics are based off of. Here’s my take:
The Good:
-CStar increased range.
-CStar no longer going on CD after moving.
-Talent node changes
General QoL changes that makes playing Devourer more fun and consistent.
The Bad:
-CStar resetting the cooldown of the hunt.
This right here is the absolute bane of the patch for me. The way you play VS in Raid, involves you have to use those resets via CStar, to cast as many Predator’s Wake, and Piecer the Veil inside your meta. That’s fine. No issue there. But having to cast CStar (which makes you immobile) followed by going back into melee just puts you into terrible positions in Raid, as you are very much still eligible to be selected by Ranged Mechanics. The previous iteration of this got away it more easily, because it was 3 melee combos delivered in quick succession, before VR into a ranged role. This allowed you to better place your damage combo.
In the current integration of the spec, we’re delivering the damage in a disjointed fashion, where we’re bouncing between melee and ranged, as all 3 melee combos are not one after the other. So that leads us to consider casting CStar in melee, which is even more likely to cause issues, for the reasons listed above.
It’s so bad in raid, that despite being 8-10% ahead, all Dev DH Content creator’s in the Fel Hammer all agreed to recommend Annihilator as the recommended raid spec. That’s great of them looking after the raid community, but it highlights the disappointing state of Void-Scarred. Numerically great, but impractical. Yes it is viable, and some can pull it off, but why make it an inaccessible spec to play?
My suggestion to Blizzard:
-Activating Void Meta, after using Voidblade, or The Hunt, removes Hungering Slash/Reaper’s Toll, and grants a reset of both Pierce the Veil and Predator’s Wake.
-Add effect to Soul Glutton (or any node): CStar Damage is reduced by X%, but increases the cast time of CStar by Y%.
-Adjust damage ratios as needed for desired target metrics.
There you go. That’s it. No Claude AI needed.
Change #1 - This ensures that smuggling for this particular combo is completely dead, without disrupting Eradicate Smuggling, which is useful in other builds and should be left untounched. Additionally, it removes the interaction of = Void Meta → Reaper’s Toll → Void Ray (in Melee) → Pierce the Veil - > CStar (in Melee) → Predator’s Wake → Reaper’s Toll. This is a pain point for the rotation as having to be in melee for CStar on fights like Mythic Sszorak, or Coiled Alter is just borderline griefing worthy.
Change #2 - The reason why CStar feels so bad in Voidscarred is because it’s a long casted spell that forces you to be immobile at the place where you casted, just to reset you’re melee abilities. This is two separate playstyles competing for your character’s positional location on the map, and forces the distasteful playstyle we play on live. Increasing the speed in which star gets casted, and compensated by the a nerf to the star, seems absolutely acceptable to me. The focus should be on Void-Surges, PTV, and PW, not CStar. That’s why annihilator exists.
Change #3 - This is just so you can achieve you’re desired target metrics you all like to talk about so much in your blue posts. Idc what the #'s are, even as Mythic Raider. I want the playstyle to be fun, engaging, rewarding, and accessible to everyone.
