New Default Hunter Pets Bugged?

Hello! So first things first - I know Exile’s Reach gives you a quest to tame a hunter pet.

I made a new fresh level 1 Pandaren hunter and I started her on The Wandering Isle. I was very excited about the new yak default pet. I assumed at level 5 hunters would automatically get their new/old default hunter pet in their responding starting zones that are NOT Exile’s Reach, but then I reached level 5 and I am now 7 and still petless.

I am able to tame beasts.

I also made a test Void Elf hunter which also received an updated default starter pet and on my login screen prior to logging in the first time it was the space cat and then when I logged in my hunter pet was a Warp Stalker.

I want my yak! Anyone know what is up?

I’m going to be very salty if my next pandaren hunter doesn’t get a tiny yak pet.

Same issue with my new Void Elf Hunter

Yep, each time I create a Void Elf hunter, I get a Warp Stalker instead of a Panthara.
Can’t stand that Stalker thing.
I even tried to hide it in the stables so as to keep playing without my eyes bleeding.
But no, it now appears by default as my second pet. Whatever I do, it’s there. I don’t have it on my toon, but it’s there.
I now hate it even more.

Also, it can’t die.

This is madness! It’s so aweful I thought it was an easter-egg N’Zoth madness thing. All of the corruption has been condensed into this god-awful Warp Stalker.

So I rolled a Undead hunter the other day and discovered the same thing. If you are choosing the Veteran leveling option and choosing the old starting zone and not Exiles Reach you will get to play choose my first pet without any quest to guide you.

My conclusion is because the Old Starting zones are considered for Veterans that you would want to choose your first pet for yourself instead of getting the gimme pet.

As to allied race pets I don’t recall seeing any patch notes saying the allied race pet is changing and petopia does not have anything listed in there SL changes either. I would assume at this point the previewed pet is more of a Tease and not the actual pet. So that means no Panthara and no Yaks.

Heart = broken :cry:

Just to be clear that was an “Arcane Shot” to the Heart and yes I am to blame. But I have not given love a bad name.

I didn’t know void elves were supposed to be receiving Pantharas now.

With all my respects, considering the time it took me to farm the bloody pieces of stag meat to catch my pink Panthara, I really hope you don’t get one for free.

Spec out of Animal Companion, or tame a different pet and put it in your first stable slot. Animal Companion summons your first stable slot as the second pet.

You know after you tame a pet you can abandon that first pet and be about your day.

You have selected the talent “Animal Companion,” which gives you a second pet. The first pet stored in your stable will be summoned whenever you call one of your pets.

To change your Animal Companion:

  1. Tame a pet of your choice.
  2. Find a Stable Master NPC.
  3. Place your new pet in the first slot on page one of your stable.

If you have a pet you don’t like:

  1. Visit the Stable Master NPC.
  2. Move the unloved pet from the stable into one of your Call Pet slots.
  3. Dismiss your current pet.
  4. Call your unloved pet.
  5. Target the pet, right click, and choose “Abandon.”
  6. Confirm you wish to remove the pet forever.

Hope that helps!
