I hate to say it, but if it’s a mass whisper it might be someone putting out a million feelers to potentially scam people or lure someone into a less-than-savory situation. I might think about reporting that kind of thing.
It might just be a super, SUPER awkward person who stumbled on an addon and thought that it’d make casting a wide net easier, but someone internal at Blizz should probably look at the situation anyway to make sure there’s no awfulness going on.

Good call, I guess I don’t think of those things too often. I’m not a parent but that would worry me.

On my first day in game, I had somebody whisper me asking if I would be their girlfriend.
After some fumbling with controls and scanning the screen to find out what the noise was, I found it.
Then I politely informed him that he is most likely far too young for me even if I were looking. Never heard back.
I get this all the time in every game I play a female char. I think I sound and speak feminine
I think that belongs in Trade Services now. IKYWIM.

Sounds a lot like this one guy on MG who /who and whispers anyone whith a feminine sounding name asking that exact same thing. It’s funny when you tell them it’s pay to play. They always get SUPER salty about it. Like my guy, you propositioned me. I get to determine the terms to which I interact with you.

The rate is too low. 180k a week is like 20 dollars. If you spend 10 hours talking to someone each week (1/2 hours every day), that’s 10 hours. And no way is $2 per hour enough to talk to someone who needs to pay to get people to talk to them. 3 million per week, minimum.

I mean, what’s the worst that can happen? If they get mean or weird or inappropriate just block them. I’ve had to block someone who did this to me
my friend met her husband on the craigslist hookup section. they’ve been married 10 years.
you never know.
I remember during BFA another player messaged me and offered to be my sugar daddy in game - carries, gold, mog - whatever I wanted. I was a lot more naïve then. He never followed through.
Always get paid upfront lol

I don’t think the average savvy player is someone who’d need to worry about a random whisper, but if they’re casting a SUPER wide net they might snag someone new to online gaming, or a kid, or someone who’s especially naïve for some reason.
That’s why I say, eh, err on the side of reporting it. Like I said, it might just be a random weirdo, but someone on the Blizz end should probably look at it to make sure they’re not up to anything like those scam profiles on Facebook who post “I thought your profile looks really interesting, PM me” to everyone who responds to like, company pages and news articles, or randos who add you on Tumblr, Snapchat or TikTok to try and get you maneuvered to their paid pages.
While the delivery may be new, this kind of thing has existed as long as the internet. A/S/L, anyone? That was popular on IRC and early BBS chatrooms.
