Well… a lot of that has to do with the fact that it isn’t a genuine request…
The idea that Blood Elves need more stuff is coming as a reaction to Blizzard making High Elves playable as a Void elf customization.
Don’t get me wrong, Dark Rangers are dope and there are requests. But there isn’t a major formal request. The San’layn have a major formal request.
But the rest of this has been: “Oh. You are sort of getting what you wanted. So now we want more stuff.”
There hasn’t been major organized lobbying for it.

Void Elves not having white hair is odd.
I imagine the reason Void hair colors wasn’t announced as expanded us due to difficulties with the tentacles.
But maybe they are just focusing on the underwear difficulties for now?
I think they were just thinking, “We will fix it and give them high elves.” And then ran into a wall.
BFA has dealt with the High Elf controversy for two years. They probably realized that the idea of expanding customization options so people could play what they want, but not adding High Elves would just be throwing wood on the fire…
Shadowlands… two more years of internet arguments over the most requested playable race… and ignoring a lot of new content. Though I think this thread proves it isn’t over yet.
Was a huge request for pillars of eternity II and they pulled it off.

Right. According to the game tech, they would just need to map the hair portion of the headpiece and assign it to the specific hair texture that your character is using.
This is an amazing idea, and also should be done with some of the hats, so you don’t get shaved everytime you wear one.

As far as I recall, the tentacles aren’t tied to hair colour.
When I want to pretend the ponytentacle is just a ponytail with a glowing tip for example, I use the dark green hair because it colour matches the base of the tentacle.

Actually they are… The texture files for the hairstyles include the tentacle and the tentacle ring textures. The thing is, that I belive they use the same tentacle texture to all the hairstyles.
I suppose the skin textures aren’t available yet on alpha because they would require actual photoshop work to swap the underwear to the void elf ones, since it’s attached to the skin texture as well.

I disagree, it’s a genuine request.
Dark Rangers/Dark Fallen requests have been around for a long time it’s just that now we see blizzard might actually seriously consider it since they actually did something as far-fetched as adding belf skin tones to velfs.
Not saying it was bad mind, just it wasn’t really something that looked like it would happen until it did.
On top of that it would add a nice balance to the whole thing.
Void skins for Alliance and high elf ones.
Dark Fallen for Horde with Belf ones.

Hmm see we see different things sometimes I thought he was saying people were accusing it of not being genuine and he was defending its validity not saying it wasn’t genuine himself, as I liked that myself and you know how I am very outspoken on Dark Ranger themes!

I only mean to point out that the request has been around at least as long as wrath which is where I first encountered the idea.
It’s a valid request.
Now he’s right it’s recent upsurge is entirely because blizzard was willing to do what a lot of folk thought they’d never do. Add high elf skins to velfs.
But that doesn’t make it any less genuine.

I thought his first sentence was in reference to what he saw others doing/describing of the request not so much speaking for himself. But I agree if his intent was to say it wasn’t valid then that’s wrong.
And I want to point again that the customizations were said to be core races first, with an emphasis on allowing player agency and implementing long requested things. And I think the Dark Ranger customization falls perfectly into this, I’ve wanted it since Cata revamped Silverpine and Hillsbrad etc, and I hope Blizzard takes note of the unequal situation that is being felt by many Blood Elf fans currently.
I was just in a conversation last night with HE fans who think BEs don’t need anymore, DR and San’layn don’t fit, and they thought it was funny to add laughing emojis to saying we should get wretched options instead. Then they went on to cite numbers arguments against San’layn specifically which is odd as I’ve never seen HE fans use numbers arguments we normally discredit numbers arguments? And then to add to it all they felt that the wayfarers being in the rift the customization was always owed to them/ they already have the lore, I guess they fail to see Dark Rangers are on Horde and we have citation of them staying so the same situation can be said for BE fans who want this. Actually the most ironic part of it all was when they used the argument “Blizzard shouldn’t listen to fan demands but just go by the lore” to discredit Dark Ranger / San’layn… as if the HE request wasn’t fan requested for the longest time?
Anyways it’s an odd conversation I’ve been thinking about, and if this was another case or a pro HE fan discrediting the Dark Ranger request I do not support it, but I did think he was only describing the sentiment of those people and less about himself but overall now I am unsure.

His phrasing very much so says it’s not a genuine request because he thinks it’s only wanted because of a reaction to Void Elves getting normal skin tones when he doesn’t realize that people have wanted them for a long time.
And given what we’ve seen of other Race customization additions, now is the time to really ask for it when before it was mostly thought of as a possible new class.

No unfortunately, but I think thankfully despite 3-4 anti BE sentiment most people agree BE’s need more customization.
Mostly I was just annoyed that I pointed out that Blizzard listened to feedback and implemented the HE request and we may get Wayfarer lore. But they refused to in turn recognize any BE players wants, even citing that we got DH in legion which what that had to do with anything I have no idea.
But I thought the above comment was speaking on the sentiments of HE fans that don’t view the Dark Ranger request as valid, I didn’t think he was saying it himself, but it seems I read it wrong.

Yes I seem to have read it wrong, I thought he was saying basically “this is what the sentiment is from these people and this is why they are wrong” as I thought the argument was inherently arguing for Dark Ranger themes.

Here’s a texture file for void elf hair:
Notice the sections: Flowing hair, braid (+ring), tendril portion, tendril glow, a blank space that is probably without use right now, or reserved for future use, and “thin tendril” that is used on the tips of the tendrils.
If you just replace the tendril sections with hair, the tentacles would appear as hair (thought still tendril-shaped).
Or you could create geosets for braids superimposed on the tentacles, with a toggle between one or the other, and use the very same hair textures on the braids, since they contain a braid section already.

Yeah, figured that out… But I’d love is someone could make that on practice, because I can’t picture with my head if the “fat” tendrils would look good with regular hair textures or not.
Also, one dataminer curiously found that there is now a specific “secondary” hair color for velves, but still there’s nothing different there. I wonder what is the plan with that one.
