New computer, Unexpected graphics problems

Hello all. Looking for advice please.

I purchased a brand new Dell i7 with 32 GB of RAM, a SSD drive and an NVIDIA Quadro P600 video card. This was an upgrade from the old i5 with 16 GB of RAM with a standard hard drive. I always run 2 monitors. Windows 10 Pro. Updated video drivers.

On my old computer, I’ve never experienced any screen delays. Meaning, screen locks up, or is sluggish to respond. I am running EXACTLY the same programs as I was before. Not much running in background. I keep turning the video performance down in WoW and it’s still the same. Currently at level 4. Used to run at 8 smoothly on older computer. I could go back and forth between screens (ie look up wowhead) and never experienced any graphical lag.

Does anyone had any advice to make WoW run smooth on this new computer? Something I’ve missed?

Thank you!

p.s. The only other thing I’ve noticed with this computer is the fan seems to either run more, or is louder than before. Not sure if that’s a SSD thing or not.

Quadro cards in general are going to be unsupported as there generally meant for workstations rather than gaming. May have a few suggestions but will want to get a DxDiag to take a look. When posting the DxDiag please format it by encasing it with a set of ~~~ like so:
~~~
DxDiag Conents
~~~
One thing you may try right now is testing the game with a different graphics API. This setting can be found in the Advanced section of the game settings.

Thank you for the quick response! That’s interesting about Quadro cards.

When I tried post paste the dxdiag, I got Body is limited to 99000 characters; you entered 223300.

Let’s use PasteBin instead then. Can copy the contents there and then link it here. If you’re unable to post links, you can get around the restriction by using the same formatting for the DxDiag I listed above. Or just post the portion after the .com.

Let’s try this.

p.s.: Tried DX 11 and legacy. Same sluggish performance.

We can try grabbing the updated Nvidia drivers here.

Let’s also disconnect the external monitor and test with just the laptop display.

As the computer is fairly new, the power settings may be set to Balanced. Let’s make sure that’s set to High Performance. You can open the power settings by pressing the Windows + R key and entering powercfg.cpl in the Run window that appears.

If you’re able to on this laptop, let’s try running the game with the Intel graphics. If its an option, then the steps here under Manually Configure Optimus should help

Power settings already changed. Got an error when trying to download those drivers. "The current Standard Windows Driver Type cannot be installed on this system. Your system is configured to require a DCH Windows Driver Type that you can download from nvidia.

I will try playing directly from the laptop, as well as switching to the onboard video next.

Same problem when I switch to integrated video or play from the laptop screen.

Should be able to grab the DCH driver here.

That one worked! Much better response. Not sluggish anymore. Fixed my problem. Thank you for taking the time to help me and so quickly!

As a side note you will want to watch the Temps on the Quadro card as they general have less robust cooling compared to the GTX/RTX gaming cards

How do I do that? Unfortunately there’s no way to install a different video card in this laptop, from what I’m told.

A program like hardware monitor will show the tempatures of the video card. https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

That Quadro P600 is the culprit and the difference between a Workistation GPU and a Gaming GPU is a world of difference and this should put things into perspective for you.

Nvidia Geforce 2080 Ti = the Chevy Corvette of GPU’s powerful V8 engine.

Nvidia Quadro P600 = the Chevy Corvette of GPU’s with a lawnmower engine.

Most of the Quadro cards actually have the same GPU in them as the GTX/RTX cards they are just slight differences . For example the P600 has a GP107. The benchmarks show it’s performance between a GT 1030 and a GTX 1050.

Would any of these cards have problems with WoW? These are the ones available to me:

Quadro P1000 with 4GB
Quadro P2000 with 4GB
Quadro P3200 with 6GB
