New Classes

There was a leak about new classes. Mentioned things like death knights, vampire sanlyn, tinkerers…

Don’t turn this into the slop-mess that ascension was with all of their classes. Story, world, and gameplay loop need to be the biggest priority. People are fine playing the classes theyve played since 2004. That means your classes are PERFECT already.

And of course all the new classses can do everything as per retail rules: tank, heal, dps… because all must be homogenized…

I don’t know how all other WoW Classic+ players feel (because this IS classic+ and not retail+, the game files are even named classic beta, and the developers admit this is for the classic players first!) but I would MUCH prefer new zones, new quests, new adventures, and solid horizontal progression over new classes.

Before a new class i would prefer a hero class on main classes, personally - where I have to give up something to get something.

Someone needs to remember where WoW spawned from

I don’t think it was a leak. It was a survey which Blizzard itself put out on the Battlenet launcher asking for feedback on future classes – which included the aforementioned DK/San’layn/Tinkerers/etc.

While I think you can parse the tea leaves a little bit, it’s really important that they are not committing to introducing these classes by putting out a survey. Death Knight, Demon Hunter, and Monk are pretty well established in Warcraft lore and particularly DK/DH have avid fanbases so I think it’s fair to wager a bet that they will be rolled out eventually into Forever.

Some of the surveyed classes are really outlandish, though. San’layn to me was one of the few ones that felt more like a flavorful twist on Blood Death Knight rather than its own class. Same for Illusionist, Witch, and one whose name evades me but was a mixture of Shaman and Monk thematically.

I wouldn’t draw massive conclusions about particulars besides probably DK and DH. I think it’s safer to infer that they’re interested in trying to roll out new classes somewhere down the line.

It wasn’t a leak, it was a survey

I only want new, ORIGINAL content in WoW Forever. So Illusionists, Witches, Wardens, etc. are all fine. No DK’s. No Demon Hunters. No Pandas.

My thoughts exactly, also no Bard. That it just too goofy.

Love your newswork.

I also think that if they bring a new class into WoW Forever, they need to be extremely careful.

That class must fulfill a niche that is not currently being filled(If there isn’t anything obvious create one). And it must be given very clear weaknesses and strengths. I think it needs to be more obvious than the other classes, otherwise it will get out of control with the amount of people rolling it.

Like the class must feel like it needs support from other classes to succeed well. I don’t think if it would be good for the game to have 5-mans of all this new class filling everything needed.

Aside from that,
I personally hope they do not bring a Retail class into WoW Forever. I think this is new direction.

Death Knights require a very particular narrative to make sense in WoW Forever, and I don’t think we should go in that direction in the story.

Tinker is not bad and it does have it’s orgins in WC3, but I think it will clash with the engineering profession. Either one can diminish the other.

My favorite Unit in WC3 that never got a class in WoW(Which is very surprising to me) is Spellbreaker.

I suppose you can merge that into “Warden”.

Having a Tank/Support class that can be mid range would be a unique niche

I also do not mind Necromancer. It has WC3 origins, and it will fullfill a niche that is not currently in WoW(Mass summons), which was later kind of taken my Warlock/deathknight in later expansions. But in Classic WoW, Warlock stayed true to it’s own thing… Buffing up their demon connection, or DoTing/blowing things up.

Death Knights already exist in Forever. Arthas still became the Lich King and raised more Death Knights. We will be raiding Naxx in Forever, and fighting the 4 Horsemen would be a lot cooler if you also had some horsemen of your own to help out. They don’t need to create any new narrative to fit DKs in at all.

Can we get D2 Sorc pls

I am a little hesitant of adding classes that use unique main hand “weapons”. I.e. Bards using instruments but not being able to equip any other gear? Maybe they can make it work but I would prefer if the added classes that use current weapon types.

The narrative is how are the death knights directly opposing Arthas, and joining the Alliance and horde and are apparently openly accepted etc.

The Forsaken have a special place as being the people that broke away from the Curse. And the new Undead Paladin is a kind of good “Deathknight” of sorts already.

I personally feel like a deathknight curse would be a lot more potent, and the only faction that would be chill with accepting deathknights would be the Forsaken.

It would not make any sense at all for the Alliance to accept them, they already do not accept the Forsaken.

Tinkers with only show up when goblins are introduced. That being said you WILL watch this go from classic plus to to retail minus in the course of a year

Flavorful lore-rich ways of exploring new class or talent trees would be to do something like

I get a Paladin to level 40 I have the option to do a quest to permanentley forego the Light and make that Pally a DK .

Or a lower version is add the option for choice classes i.e At level 30 or 40 a Mage can permanently forego Fire magic to have Illusion magic etc.

This makes the choice impactful and allows a new ‘class’ to be in where some mages are Fire/Frost/Arcane and some are Arcane/Illusion/Frost etc. the Talent Tree route is a little less invasive and saves a ton on design time since you don’t have to design much around the lower levels . But you could really dive into the Lore of it by making it obtainable through a Quest chain.

Druid could give up Feral tree for Keeper of the Grove and be a pet/summoner druid talent tree instead, possibilities are endless but def a lot of options for the Lore to be expanded and used

Two cool routes they could pursue if they wanted to be more lore-intensive/choice based versus “here’s new class added”

warden will probably need another race on horde side too tbh maybe forsaken elfs or something if they do that one. none of the current races on horde realy makes sense for that one i feel

I don’t think they should be encouraged to add new paywall content. Which is what classes, etc. will be. Forever needs to focus on being a good game, that’s fun to play, where you are able to actually collect everything.
