New Class Idea Thread!

Do you have an idea for a new class? Necromancer? Engineer? Shadow Hunter? Go ahead and post your idea for the class and their subsequent specs here.
Personally, I’d love to see a Necromancer class with a minion based zombies/ghouls/geists spec that works similar to Demonology warlock but instead of having a ton of temporary minions and one permanent, they would have a starting talent choice of a lone wolf style experience where it’s only temporary minions, two permanent ones, or one permanent. Each would have their own little buffs. There would probably be another focused on plagues and alchemical concoctions that damage your enemies over time from range with the ability to ‘chain’ your attacks. Throw a poisonous gas bomb that doubles the damage of your fire bomb or maybe toss out a vial of plague that raises your target as an undead minion for a minute if they die to it. Finally, some sort of hemomancy spec that would heal your allies by doing a penance-esque attack that would radiate healing from your target or leave pools of healing aoe.

Tinker. I don’t really have any ideas. But jesus christ just give me Tinkers.

Also let Draenei be Tinkers. Belves too if you really want me happy.

But mostly Draenei.

Bard has been a class of choice for my friends and I to talk about. Debuffing enemies with various magical blasts from a lute or what have you. Similar to a disc priest in that they deal damage and heal, their damage would increase the amount of damage the enemy received from a certain type for a period of time (stacks with diminishing returns), so they’d have to swap to buffing players who dealt that kind of damage (stacks with diminishing returns).

It would be a very intense role - having to judge what composition your group is made of and adjust on the fly accordingly, though.

Maybe the class would be divided into a healing class, spellcasting class, and a rogue-like class (not unsimilar to Outlaw / Pirate spec)

Honestly, what I’d really love to see is the concept of Prestige Classes (or something close to that) wherein by leveling up, you unlock more classes that act as sort of heavy-duty specs to give you additional abilities and perks.

Hunters could become Tinkers (with extra turret, mine-field, barbed wire abilities) or Rangers (able to use a blend of melee and ranged attacks to weave in and out of combat).

Rogues could become Assassins (able to use a more robust ranged ability repertoire) or Duelists (able to do rudimentary tanking).

And so forth.

Each Prestige Class would be more limited in nature, only giving you four or five abilities, but they would level up more quickly and you could change in and out of them so long as you were the class that correlates to them.

Given the dichotomy of the Void and Light, I really want a… I guess I’d call it an inverted paladin. Void Knight or Void Reaver.

Riftwalker- Melee DPS, focuses primarily on channeling Void energy into physical attacks. Mixes in mid-range magic attacks to decimate their enemies.

Revenant- Healer. Bends the shadows and reaches out to the Void to bestow unnatural vitality into injured and fallen allies. Capable of casting group buffs that temporarily vastly increase stats like haste and critical strike.

Centurion- Tank. An immovable champion of the Void who can drain the essence of enemies to empower themselves, and heal their wounds. They shape the shadows around them into barriers when all else fails, allowing their adversaries to break themselves upon the power of Void.

I dunno. I’m not a game designer but at least from a lore perspective I’d like to see it.

I’d love for a more true support class, not just healing and tanking but something that buffs friends and debuffs enemies. Bard would be great at fulfilling this but it seems like WoW has moved to just having DPS, tank and healing be all there is to offer.

It was what I really enjoyed but TBC shadow priest, I wasn’t top damage dealer but I sure did make for a great mana battery.

My class fantasy is for them to balance the ones we’ve got and not have entire specs be completely unplayable.

The only class I really want to see added is a Bard. But not like a D&D Bard, a WoW style Bard. The reason being that the traditional support class doesn’t fit into the gameplay design of WoW.

I’d like to see it have only two specs similar to the DH: one healing, one dps.

I think an interesting mechanic would be to make placement matter a lot more than it does with most other classes. Since your heals and damage will come from either your voice or an instrument, abilities could work in a cone or aoe type style. It should be a mail-wearing, mid range class which utilizes bows and crossbows. Also some sort of melody system where you can overlap abilities to buff them would be interesting. For example, the DPS spec could function in alternating windows between songs when you’d have your guitar, drum, etc out and you apply your different songs which act as AoEs which travel with you, almost like auras but more directionally focused. Then you swap to your bow/crossbow to deal damage while your songs are doing their thing. Then once the songs begin to fall off, go through your rotation of reapplying. Also I think the order of the songs played should matter so you play different orders for different scenarios. I’d made a really in depth post about this ages ago but I assume that’s lost on the WoW servers somewhere since the forum rework.

As for the people who without fail always say “but songs have no place as damage/attack/magic in the WoW universe” I point to the fact that the majority of magic in WoW works via sound or spoken word. For example our spells are called power words, hymns (wow, that’s literally a song), hexes, curses, shouts, cries, blessings, etc. These are all examples of WoW magic being brought into the world via sound.

WoW bards could very easily be disciples of Murmur. The elemental lord of sound. One of only two beings in the WoW universe powerful enough to have earned the title “destroyer of worlds”. It’s said he can tear apart worlds with little more than a whisper. So there is definitely precedent in WoW lore for song/sound being used as an insanely powerful weapon as well as a means by which to summon healing or whatever else you might need magic for.

And to the ones who always say “there isn’t a bard lore character like this in the lore though”. You’re right. Just like before Arthas, there was no Arthas-style death knight. Nor were there Demon Hunters before they introduced Illidan. There weren’t Draenei before the Burning Crusade. There weren’t Highmountain Tauren, Void Elves, Worgen, Pandaria, Garrosh, Mogu, etc until they were added in later games/expansions. WoW is an ever expanding universe and things which didn’t exist in Orcs vs Humans have been added with WCII & III as well as WoW and every xpac released to date. So that argument doesn’t hold much water.

Give us a Bard already.

Give me tinker class or give me death!

Spellbreakers

A class of warriors whose arts are born of an ancient elven martial tradition, Spellbreakers wield arts that are as deadly as they are versatile. The mere presence of these magic-bending souls has been known to be the crux of any battle, as they have proven to be the backbone of high elven armies for centuries.

Spellbreakers Possess the ability to resist, absorb, displace or otherwise disrupt magic of any kind using their arts, and are even able to turn the magics of their foe against them or use their weapons to disrupt the abilities of others to command the very powers they draw upon, even incorporating magic into their attacks and movements.

Spellbreakers can be offensively or defensively inclined, with two specializations: the Arcane Warrior (a dynamic one-handed dual-wielding or two-handed DPS spec) and the Sentry (sword and board tank). Spellbreakers can wield one-handed swords, two-handed swords, greater glaives, warglaives and shields.

Races that can be Spellbreakers include:

ALLIANCE:

  • Void Elves
  • Draenei
  • Humans

HORDE

  • Blood Elves
  • Nightborne
  • Orcs

Iconic Abilities (though not exactly like the WC3 originals) include: Feedback, Command Magic, and Spell Resistance.

Yeah a tech based healer/dps mail wearer would be fantastic. Who says we can’t heal people by shooting them? It works for Ana!

I’d be all over prestige classes for sure.

I love that Dragonsworn hero class concept posted on reddit (I can’t post links yet - UPVOTE ME lmao)

I’d be all for WoW-style bards as well.

I’d love any class or spec they could come up with that uses a whip, too.

I might steal those for RP for Elli here! She was a Paladin, so natural progression.

Ahem Now that I’m on computer, I’d also like to add something akin to Necromancers. They could be to Death Knights what Priests are Paladin’s. My only other suggestion that I’m -personally- interested in wouldn’t be a new class, so much as making Warlocks potentially tankier - but that could push into the territory they had torn away from them by Demon Hunters.

Yes, blizzard. I’m still sore about that. I had an entire character based around Dark Apotheosis who was essentially a proto-demon hunter and YOU RUINED THEM. I put more effort into everything about her than I have any character since and that all went down the drain. I know that’s my fault for assuming anything would stay consistant, but I never considered that my favorite part about a class would be ripped away and made into its own class.

If my character could -be- that class, that’d be fine, but she was Human, not Nelf or Belf.

I like the idea of ‘class skins’.

I feel we’ve already got a bunch of really interesting classes (and we’re struggling to balance what we’ve already got) but I’d love to delve deeper into certain themes now and then. Customize abilities to have unique flavors, in a similar way to Arthas in Heroes of the Storm. Paladin-skin Arthas has the same abilities mechanically speaking, but they look different and have a generally different flavor.

With that in mind, I’d love to see skins for certain classes or specs. Let warlocks have a necromancer skin, where they summon the dead instead of demons, for example. Give shadow priests a Tidesage skin, where all their abilities are water-themed. Give mages a bard skin, or paladins a battlemage skin, or something like that. I think we could increase variety, have some cool class themes, and not mess with the delicate balance of classes too much more. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is a really neat idea!

I like class skins for sure. I’d love that, it would be great for my absurd alt collection.

I’d like a mail class next as a new class or hero class.

I don’t believe devs when they say it’s hard to balance, my experience is that MMO design requires shifting imbalances and a cycle of buffs/nerfs/pruning/shiny new things – and many things we feel are mistakes or need nerfs are calculated (by design).

I would play this class. And then not survive watching my cat getting ganked.

Seriously, I was questing in Stormsong Valley last night on my Void Elf Prot Warrior, had to kill that Calico Pirate guy, and accidentally got his cat too. The cat died first.

…when the pirate died, his last words were “Please… spare my cat…” I re-read the words like …three times, got up and walkde out into the loungeroom and cuddled my cat.

…and then I wept for three minutes. ._.

Yeah, that little accident hit me harder than I think I was ready for. It still makes me a bit sad now for pity’s sake.

…as to class ideas, I’ll take some time to really think of one and reply again soon!

Yeah I’ve often suspected that too… That Blizzard does it deliberately. I wish they’d just fix it though, to be honest. It ends up being quite frustrating.

You are too pure for this world. Of Warcraft.
