New class, battle mages please

A type of melee that also uses arcane magic. There have been many npc’s throughout WoW’s history as well in wc3 that was able to use both martial prowers and the arcane. The specs I beleive they should have is the following;

Spell breaker; a spec that slashes the very mana from the target, they traditionally use glaive type weaons and use a sheild, they can utilize this spec as a sheild/sword dps focusing on attacking the foes very mana or make this the tank spec using arcanic magic to empower their sheilds defenses and barrier magics (can’t decide this should be the tank spec or not)

(the idea is named after the blood elf spellbreaker npc https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Spellbreaker )

Astro-blade; a spec that focuses on bending time and reality at their rim to provide damage to their foes. This is a dps spec that utilizes spatial magic to deal damage to their enemies, either bending reality around their attacks, movement, or even the wounds they give to their foes. This spec idea can also be a tank spec idea by warping reality to dodge or weaken their foes attacks (can’t decide if this should be the tank spec) This spec dual weilds. (they could make this use both arcane magic and void magic for this spec for those that wants a void melee for VE’s)

Fire and frost; This is a dual weilding spec that focuses on enhancing the blaades the battle mage with his own magics, with one being of fire magic and the other frost, the strikes he perfoms would be of one or the other or mixed. He is also capable of mixing pure arcane magic in the mix of his sword play making him a punishing foe (dual weild dps)

Battle mages should use one handed swords, axes, (maybe) glaives, (spell breakes uses double swords) and maces(maybe) They should utilize mail armor as well.

Races this should be available to; blood elves, nightborne, humans, void elves, forsaken.

Possible other races; gnomes, trolls, dwarves, goblins, zanda trolls, kul’tirans, mecha gnomes.

Mail armor? I would personally ditch the shield, since you probably need atleast one hand free to cast spells with somatic components.

Oi, I wish we could get something else. Like, you know. Another caster. With zero melee. Because all we’ve gotten since the game’s release have been melee / casting hyrbids like death knights and demon hunters with ranged kicks, and spells and stuff. Monk even has some ranged capability involving setup, dropping ring, etc.

Battle mage should be a new spec not class

Hah , a mage trying to be a warrior… just reroll the superior class :sunglasses:

Enhancement Shamans are thataway!>>>

What is an enhancement shaman?

He means Paladin everyone. PALADIN!!!

Spell breakers in blood elf culture uses sheilds.

Disagree. The aesthitic is too different from regular mages.

Did not know enhancement uses arcane magic.

I think if something like an eldritch knight concept was to be implemented in to wow, it would probably share similar abilities to enhancement.

But, the source of their power is fundamentally different, so it is definitely different in terms of flavor.

Reminds me of the arcane warrior from dragon age. That with Blood Magic was bonkers. ( Followed later with the actual Battle Mage option in Dragon Age Awakening )

I am totally wanting a battle mage. But enhancement already does most of what a battle mage is.

Battle mages should be like red mages imo. Weaving casting spells and melee spells. Cloth wearers with magic armors/barriers. Duel-wielders or sword or board like the spellblade aluriel.

I also wouldn’t mind a class skin for shamans to be more mage-y. As stuff like elemantalist over lap greatly with elemental users. Stuff like replacing the nature magic with arcane. Or maybe making arcane lightning like the warcraft movie.

I’d call them Spellblade, they have existed among Elves a long time, like Spellblade Alluriel.

But I assume they ultimately are the same. It is an idea I like a lot.

It is also time that more classes use Warglaives, as Elves have been using them before Demon Hunters even existed. I assume Blizz keeps it on them because they haven’t animated it on other models, so another class without the Demon Hunter traits could allow Warglaives to be used by other melee, as the animations would be more universal.

I think you’re on the right track, but I would love to see them add in “Blue Mages”, and it’ll be 3 different specs.

Blue Mage: Learn spells from enemies in raids/dungeons/world. In PvP, you would learn the spells from other classes as they’re cast on you, but only for that Battleground/Arena.

Red Mage: Only casts offensive spells, no defensives, a true glass cannon. Mix and match style, you can have access to to spells that fire/frost/arcane mages have (but none of their defensives like Ice Block/Blink/Barriers, etc.)

White Mage: Only defensives and healing abilities. I’ll leave this spec to your imagination, do with it what you will.

That’s just me though, and chances are it’s not viable, but would be cool nonetheless.

The goal posts here have legs for days.

Can we not add more melee classes? there used to be 9 classes, 4 were ranged, 5 were melee. Now there are 12 classes, 4 are ranged, 8 are melee.

I was talking about this part.

I could see a place for an eldritch knight/warrior but it’s gunna be hard to not be too similar to already DK, Paladin, Enhancement Shaman.

But I’m all about supporting options and ideas!

There is no change in goal posts. Arcane magic is fundimentally different then elemental magic.

Heck arcane magic can mess with space and time, no shaman can do that lol.

I am open to ideas. I am currently thinking of what kind of resources the class would use and I was thinking of suggesting FF14 red mage resource in it kinda to make it feel different from shammies

Shamans, Specifically Enhancement Shamans have been WarCraft’s battlemages since 2004.

Way back in the day they had a great combination of Damaging spells to soften up targets, and Magical buffs to their Melee attacks to finish off weakened enemies.

And of course today In Retail it’s even more of a Battle-Mage.
You put Magical Enhancements on your weapons so you can hit enemies with magical strikes, doing this powers up your spells so they’re instant cast and super strong.

Use Magic to enhance your weapons, then use your Magically infused weapons to charge up your spells.

That’s a battlemage done Wonderfuly.

I would Rather get a Class that isn’t close to anything we have now. Like a Tinker. Also based on WC3

Just wanted to state the obvious here.
World of WarCraft is primarily based on the “WarCraft” games. Not Final Fantasy.
Every Class we have in WoW has abilities that are taken Directly From WarCraft 3.

I wouldn’t count on any class ever getting added that doesn’t take inspiration from WarCraft 3.
I could be wrong. But it they haven’t broken from WC3 in 17 Years.

Thanks for the bump, but they are not battle mages.

They do not have the aesthitics for them with the themes of the arcane.
