So with a lack of a subreddit to refer to, here I am asking questions. It’s been a while since I’ve played seriously and I’m looking to get going with my son and a friend of mine. We’ve all got our classes and what not selected, but I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth trying to do older content zones. I missed out on Pandaria so I’d like to see it, but will we outlevel the expansion before finishing content? Same with any of the zones that list a level lower than 60.

Level Scaling in WoW

Blizzard has implemented level scaling across most zones, which means you can quest in older content zones without outleveling them immediately. Here’s how it works:

  • Chromie Time: Characters level 10-60 can choose to use Chromie Time, a feature that lets you pick an expansion (like Pandaria) to level through. This ensures that all zones and quests in that expansion scale to your level as you progress.
  • If you don’t activate Chromie Time, the default leveling path will focus on newer expansions (like Shadowlands or Dragonflight), and you might outlevel older zones like Pandaria.

How to Access Chromie Time

  1. Visit Chromie, an NPC located near the Embassy in Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde).
  2. Choose the “Mists of Pandaria” timeline to level through that expansion.
  3. Once you’ve selected it, the entire Pandaria content will scale to your level until you hit 60.

Will You Outlevel Pandaria?

  • If you’re in Chromie Time, you won’t outlevel Pandaria, as the content will scale with you until you reach level 60.
  • If you’re not using Chromie Time, older zones like Pandaria may start to feel too easy as you level up.

Exploring Older Zones with Friends

Since you’re playing with your son and a friend:

  • Quest Sync: Use the Quest Sync feature to ensure everyone is on the same page with quests, even if someone has already completed a quest before.
  • Scaling Applies to Groups: If your group members are at different levels, the game scales mobs and rewards to match each player’s level.

Recommendations

  • If you want to experience Pandaria fully, definitely enable Chromie Time for Mists of Pandaria.
  • Take your time to explore the zones, as they’re rich with lore and beautiful environments.
  • Remember that dungeons in the expansion will also scale, so you can incorporate those into your leveling journey.
