They have made some good changes: Catalyst improvements, Transmog sets earn all sets below it, housing that some people wanted… But it was at the sweeping cost of losing most if not all add-ons in Midnight (until Blizz lets off the brakes or add-on developers find a way around the planet that was thrown at them Dimensius-style), losing the ability to get Myth track appearances from Hero, Hero appearances from Champion, etc, and even the simplest specs being made even simpler.
It’s a lot of one small step forward then one giant leap backwards.

That is good! Except for the fine print that you missed. The catalyst is changing yet again to where Rank 5 Champion gear will no longer reward the Heroic Tier appearance. Following rank 5 Heroic gear will no longer reward the Mythic Tier appearance like they do now and there was no reason whatsoever to change this.
“Developers’ notes: While we feel the Catalyst has been largely successful in expanding access to powerful seasonal set bonuses, it has also generated friction in its dual use as the primary source of class set appearances for many players. This friction has been further exacerbated by loot roll restrictions in situations such as participating in LFR raiding. In conjunction with this change, we want to better preserve the value and identity of item art from difficult content.”
The Fallout from this alienates delvers and literally removes the reason for them to do anything beyond T9. Blizzard thought this change would make them feel forced to do M+ or Mythic Raid. It won’t it will just make them want to quit.

I get that they want the Mythic Raiders to feel prestigious and they worked hard for their Tier sets I get that. However there is a way to make both parties happy here
The smart thing to do would be add a vendor like the trinket vendor that sells the appearance only it won’t actually turn your gear into the Mythic Tier set you’d have to Mythic Raid to get that however it will unlock the appearance
luckily season 1 sets suck
they are running out of ideas

That’s clever, but this TMog change is also a thinly veiled push to get more people into M+ and Mythic, so Blizzard won’t do it.
If it was solely about making Mythic appearances accessible to all players, they wouldn’t have removed the upgrade unlock feature.

Cool change, no more having to hold means I get to catalyze my champ for a set now and can use the freebies when I get my hands on 4-piece hero slots.
Don’t worry, maybe they’ll slap it on downing hardmode delve nemesis lol.

Why? There’s nothing wrong with Mythic + and Raiding. I don’t understand this playerbase.
Honestly really like them.
I want some degree of certainty that we can target specific slots. Relying on drops from Mythic raids or Myth-track items in the Vault raises the possibility of never seeing “X” slot drop for TMog. Or being “forced” to select an item in the Vault that is not an upgrade for fear that you’ll never the same slot drop again.
How about awarding the full Mythic appearance as an achievement? AoTC or hitting 2.5K rating, for example? The 2.5K rating reward is “meh” anyway and non-final season AoTC gives nothing.
Their reasoning specifically mentions belts and boots as early season upgrades. Guess we don’t have to worry about stupid cantrip items in those slots in Midnight S1.
Still remains to be seen how plentiful the additional charges are. I would expect 1 additional charge per week max, but not to tell us that until S1 has begun.
They didn’t remove the functionality its just there is no overlap between vet-champ-hero-mythic track item levels like now. 5/6 a heroic piece gives the same item level of the base mythic now so it unlocks the appearance. If anything they need to add something in to get the mog unlock back.
Maybe, but with how all 3 PvE pillars work they’ll probably be a good bit to get.
Would seem weird to down a boss and that’s the charge acquisition for the week.
Yeah, that’s what I meant by the upgrade unlock feature. They removed the 5/6 Hero thing so you can only get the Mythic appearance on Myth-track items.
