New Build Seek Advice

Greetings!

So I’m trying to build me a computer and looking for something that can handle newest games on ultra settings. Will be using dual 27 inch monitors. One is 4K with the other one being 1440p.

Right now this is what I’ve come up with: ttps://pcpartpicker.com/list/fGjYVc

As long as it can handle multiple tab windows open while gaming on top of it I’ll be really happy. What I’m not confident with is selecting a case that will fit or a motherboard. If I can cut cost while being able to what I could do that would be even better. Looking around $1500-2000 USD.

Thanks!

Edit: It wouldn’t let me use a link so just would the h in front of it and it should load it up I’m guessing?

Since gaming will be your focus, I’d make some changes to your build:

CPU: The performance difference between the 5950x vs 5900x for gaming is trivial, so it isn’t worth the extra $200. The 5950x is better suited for content creation, editing, etc…from the multi-core performance.

Cooler: I don’t have experience using AIOs, so no comment on that.

M/B: That one is fine - I too lean towards Asus. I’d personally choose the Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero. If you’re comfortable with OCing, I hear it has a feature to let you OC single-core and multi-core performance independently, so you’ll have the best performance no matter if the game benefits from a single-core or multi-core lean.

Memory: A number of things…

  • 64GB may be overkill for pure gaming. RAM is only used when programs are actually running, and the most I’ve seen a game ask for as recommended requirement so far is 32GB (Flight Sim 2020). As for your browsing habits, 32GB should be fine, unless you’re like me and have hundreds of tabs open; then stick with 64GB, lol. Chrome is also a memory hog. The new MS Edge is more RAM-efficient and compatible with Chrome extensions.
  • The speed - 3200 is slow compared to what’s available now. Ideally, you’ll want the highest frequency with the lowest CAS latency for the fastest total response time in nanoseconds. You can use this calculator here: https://notkyon.moe/ram-latency.htm

Storage: 5400rpm for an HDD is slow. 7200 is the default. Your SSD is fine.

GPU: Great choice, though the chip shortages will make this tough, in terms of availability and price. The MSRP for the 3080 is in the $800-$900 range, depending on the different configs from different AiBs. Scalped prices are 2x-3x that. You’ll have to camp stock-tracking streams on YouTube, retail drop notifications on Twitter, and sign up for the NewEgg Shuffle to even get a remote chance if you don’t want to pay scalped prices.

Case: It’ll work with either the Strix or the Dark Hero.

Everything else is fine too. Now with everything said in mind, here’s the setup I’d go for:

I went with NZXT for my last computer. I got to pick what went into it and it came pre-built with very little extra software added. What was loaded was configuration type stuff if I recall. Anyways, I’ve had it for years without issue, and in today’s market, going pre-built is the best way to get certain components.
