New 2019 MBP, High Cpu concerns

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) Catalina Latest model
Processor- 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M
Memory- 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Graphics- Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Got the laptop the other day, brand new. Not even a spec of dust in the vents or anything. The laptop gets hot on the bottom, just under too hot to touch and the fans are making noise. My concern is the over/near 100% CPU usage and the heat.

I run retail at 50% resolution, it recommends preset 5 but the CPU runs at around 80% out questing and i’ve seen it spike to over 200 just sitting around orgrimmar, whereas the GPU sits at around 35%. The laptop gets warm in org and I can tell the fans are working harder… Is it because of the high CPU usage?

Classic is much better, around 30cpu just running around open world but it hits over 100 in org. Changing the system settings doesn’t seem to affect it much.

Otherwise, it runs retail wow beautifully. I can run it at preset 10 at ~70fps with no framerate drops or anything (Not that I do!)… its just the heat and the over/near 100% CPU that concerns me. This is my first time playing WoW on a laptop in… around 8 years. Is it normal that my CPU usage is that high? I’d like to lower the CPU usage if possible, increase the lifespan of the laptop and all that.

I’v read some other threads about higher CPUs and temperatures, but it seems like they either went away with a patch or an external SSD, which I should have built into the laptop. I have disabled the graphics switching option as well.

CPu usage is reported by cores, don’t worry about usage, other than you probably should enable vsync to prevent over usage. 70 fps is 10 fps more than you need for that screens native 60hz refresh rate. turning on vsync or an fps cap of 60 which will help reduce load beyond what is needded

When the MacBook Pro is getting hot, what processes are using all of the CPU in Activity Monitor? Not what applications are being used, what processes?

Catalina has a lot of history with running hot on laptops so it may be something running in the background along with WoW that is making it go over the top. No guarantee, but worth taking a look at. Check it when you think it’s gotten to that bad point.
