I was wrong.
You have a very poor understanding of the spec.
While yes, the energy generation does suck in the X.0 patch, this is the best Sin has felt in years. And the beginning patch tends to set the trend for later patches as we are able to stack more haste so Sin will feel even better (but It’ll never be as nice as 8.3).
Seal Fate is essential for CP generation. With it Sin has the capability for 3 or 4 CP per gcd just like the other specs. And its how you get FoK to generate more per GCD on aoe as well.
Aoe still isnt the best but its a lot better than in SL with the addition of Indiscriminate Carnage alongside a few former azerite abilities (rip no Echoing Blades tho).
I agree the Shiv talents are the worst thing for the spec. The payoff for using it properly is minimal at best and counter productive at worst and it feels bad to use the entire time.
Poison bomb is much stronger than in the past… maybe dont fight mobs next to stuff you dont wanna pull?
The dots literally give you energy regen.
Why should it?
It does. I personally dont use it without DtB.
Ive yet to see someone want Thistle Tea. The ability shouldve been eradicated, sadly we dont have a vocal community.
I disagree. If anything the focus should be preventing it from capping by making sure every GCD is used instead of pooling for damage periods. This opens up the possibility for new abilities. In essence though we get that effect with abilities like Blindside, and thats what makes them feel so nice to play.
Definitely not, though you are entitled to your opinion. Assassination plays miles better now than the entirety of SL. I find it very fun to play.
My only complaint atm is the damage, its still kinda meh.
But, it’s prepatch, some specs are mad strong with current gimmicks, some aren’t, it is what it is
Disclaimer: been playing mostly outlaw, a teensy bit of mut, barely any sub. That being said, I actually feel like aoe damage and flow are better with the new talent trees than before. Energy also feels way better than SL mut as does the cp generation ( using a build fairly close to the default.) The only thing I miss from 9.2.5 mut is the tier set bonuses. It feels way faster, dunno.
Shiv does feel weird.
My personal opinion is that Assassination took a step back in systemlands. But I feel that Assassination is back to where it was in the Legion/BFA era at the very least so that is a positive.
But I do agree with the original poster that Assassination compared to other specs is lagging behind and needs to be modernized to keep up with Outlaw and Sub. And to keep up with the other specs in the game.
Assassination needs a lot of improvement to talents across the board.

Embarrassingly, this spec has been my main for the last 4 years. You’re probably right that my understanding is poor (as stated, I am very casual,) though believe me when I say I didn’t forget about (most of) Sin’s features while I was writing my complaints. And I think I am playing the rotation correctly overall. This is all to say, I think my understanding is good enough to be in a position to make my dumb complaints.
Yup didn’t forget about it. God I can’t imagine how slow the spec would be without Seal Fate. I literally never tried the spec without it.
One thing about Seal Fate, and it’s not the fault of the talent, but the fact Mutilate costs so much energy in comparison to other specs’ main CP generator makes it feel clunky. I know Mutilate has two chances to trigger Seal Fate and should be more CPs per energy spent than other specs, but I guess having to gamble it all on Mutilate makes those 2 CP mutilates painful to see. 3 CP Mutilates are also quite awkward because it now means your next Mutilate will almost certainly waste CPs. Point is, Seal Fate + Mutilate functions fine but feels disappointing. Maybe I just miss Legion’s Anticipation talent.
So come to think of it, again, this is another energy regen issue. Drop Mutilate down to 35 energy cost, and I’m willing to bet it would nearly instantly make Sin feel smooth. I’d also like to see Anticipation back ![]()
FoK could still use an extra combo point baseline at least. Though I think I’m just jealous of Sub rogues’ CP generation at this point.
Man I wish I could try out this ability. I haven’t played beta to try it out yet, but I certainly believe you. I do wish that Sin could smoothly AoE without the aid of a talent though. Or at least have that talent (or a similar talent) further up in the tree.
Hah, you’re funny. As if I’d pay attention to my surroundings…
Main point of my Poison Bomb section was just my desire for the talent to proc controllably. I want to see it all the time in AoE. Envenom kinda sucks to hit in AoE situations, but Poison Bomb fixes that when it triggers and would feel damn good if it triggered every time in an AoE situation.
Lumping these two together cause they’re both about Deathmark.
So I won’t lie to you, I completely forgot Sin gets energy regen from DoTs. That also means I didn’t notice the bonus energy regen enough during Deathmark. Could certainly use more energy regen on top of the DoTs, I don’t think anyone would complain.
And why should it refresh the DoTs? Because I think it would feel a bit smoother. If Deathmark refreshed DoTs, you wouldn’t have to worry about the duration on your DoTs before pressing the button. If your DoTs were about to fall while Deathmark is ready, this feature means you wouldn’t have to reapply the DoTs and delay pressing Deathmark. It would also allow Sin to focus on Envenoms and completely forget about their DoTs during Deathmark because all of their DoTs should be at their full duration.
I can get behind that. I would greatly welcome this change.
