Lately I have been monitoring some bots in Suramar-Frostmourne, and auto-following ‘them’. It got me thinking what blizzard will do when neural networks are developed, and injection is no longer required, with virtual pcs warden has no chance.
It is already happening with fishing bots.
Are we prepared for the next generation of bots?
What will the consequences of this age of new AI development be for MMORPG’s?
This is some tin foil hat theorycraft, but still cool to think about
Not just for MMORPG, but gaming in general… I’m seeing this in a positive light. Considering the speed at which AI technology is evolving (compare the quality of AI “work” from months ago with current ones), I can see a very promising future for gaming.
Especially in the development of NPCs and their individual artificial intelligences. I believe it will greatly enhance player immersion in games, especially in RPGs.
Now, about the “bots” we see in WoW, I can’t say for sure. Perhaps in the future, AI will evolve to the point where we won’t be able to distinguish between a bot, an NPC, and a human player… And I can’t say whether that’s good or not… But it could be good, who knows.
You will push a bot away from a fishing spot. It will glare at you and before walking away it will say:
“Ah’ll be bah’k”
I think at that stage we’d just accept it as a known consequence.
Basically another MMO I play has a bot that will even do your skills for you as long as you dodge the mechanics. It’s ultra smart to so for Evoker it would work like e.g ‘it’ll use hover if it knows you need to move and cast but if it’s brief it’ll use azure strike’ .
So the tech is very far along once it masters movement and better human interactivity (moment to moment interactions) we’re basically stuffed.
I’m not! At the same time, I think there’s money to be made so it will probably happen. I’m not sure if machines are at the level to navigate a 3d world and complete dynamic tasks without detectable scripting but who knows.
I’m assuming this tech is going to be easier to catch than to make.
So get this, I come home after work… and
Account Action: Account Closure
Offense: Exploitative Activity: Unauthorized Cheat Programs (Hacks)
This account was closed for use of unauthorized cheat programs, also known as hacks or bots. These programs provide character benefits not normally achievable in the game and detract from the integrity of the World of Warcraft game environment.
was it because i was following the bot? I’m fuming…
