Nether Tempest and Time Anomaly

I really loved these spells. I’m going to miss the random mana regen proc’s from Time Anomaly.

On another note, I absolutely loved NT. I loved when you could cast it on multiple targets. I don’t know why they couldn’t make NT viable. If they would of increased the base haste of the spell by like 500% then it does really make it look like a tempest. There was some event where you could increase your haste by like 500% by hitting a target dummy. When I got max stacks I used NT and it was glorious! NT has potential and I really hope they bring it back. There’s so many things they could do with it. :sparkling_heart:

I absolutely HATED Nether Tempest. Mage doesn’t need active DoTs. It feels terrible and out of place. Sorry to rain on your parade but ew NO god please no.

It was an AoE DoT. Which was unique, don’t really know of many in the game. Plus the visuals were cool.

Doesn’t belong on Mage imo. I always found it clunky and annoying. Made me avoid playing Arcane for a while.

I used it as a way to grab mobs from afar. Blizzard could get rid of the DoT AoE mechanic and change it to something else.

As long as it didn’t make me have to manage a DoT then I’m fine with it. I don’t play Mage to have a random DoT. I play it for the direct/burst damage it offers. I play other classes with DoT management like Shadow Priest or Balance Druid and their DoTs actually synergize with their kit and make sense in their damage profiles. Mages just weren’t designed for it.

Well, I’m pretty sure Fire was designed around DoTs. lol but yeah I see what you’re saying.

I knew you’d bring up Fire and no. It’s designed around a passive DoT-like mechanic in their mastery called Ignite. Completely ingrained into their kit without too much active management. I’ve actually wanted Ignite nerfed and Fire’s direct damage spells to be buffed to feel more Mage-like, and that’s exactly what they’re doing in 11.2! So, I’m ecstatic for that!

Well since you don’t like how NT was. Do you have any cool suggestions or creative changes that would make NT fun and viable?

The first thing that came to mind was a cosmetic glyph for Touch of the Magi/Arcane Echo that transforms the look of that effect into the old Nether Tempest animation.

Hmm maybe add the animation into Spellsplinger Arcane hero trees somehow? Splinterstorm is a passive DoT in a way. Could put a cometic glyph there for Nether Tempest, or rework a spell/talent in that hero tree to just be Nether Tempest but passive.

I had a love/hate relationship with it. I hated its pathetic damage, but I loved the easy tagging for mob pulling.

It was also visually appealing. Would have liked to see more interaction with it – in a way though, it kinda got merged and buffed into “arcane echo” – even though that spell existed already.

Touch of Magi with Nether Tempest and Arcane Echo was a beautiful spell.

Yeah I absolutely loved the Echo, Nether Tempest and Arcane Missile synergy. I loved the easy tagging as well. Now it’s Arcane Barrage. Which is fine.

Not the biggest fan of nether tempest, but I’m not happy at all to see time anomaly being removed though.

Honestly, I would be quite partial to Nether Tempest in conjunction with Dematerialise. Lord knows I just can’t get on board with how clunkly Fire’s ignite is in terms of damage over time.

And on the topic of Dematerialise, if they introduced a long-desired arcane laser beam skill, there’s a fantastic opportunity to lean into a side of the tree that revolves around Dematerialise more.

Because who doesn’t love the idea of using magical radiation beams to quite literally disintegrate the enemy into atoms? I love that in the ‘Doom of K’aresh’ audiobook, they really leaned into Arcane magic’s nature as a force comparable to our real-world radiation. It was just incredibly cool.

The only thing good about Nether Tempest were the visuals. Now for Time Anomaly, I dance on its rotting corpse.
