Yes they are.
Not to necro a random thread⌠but the MM rotation is definitely pretty hard/one of the most difficult in the game at the moment. Itâs not even complicated, itâs just extremely clunky and youâre constantly left wondering what the best thing to do in a given situation is.
I donât consider myself a dad gamer but so much of MM hunter rotation is trying to do thing that could be easy in the most complicated way possible. Keep track of frenzy, but it stacks based on pet attacks and isnât constantly up (your pet will have stack falls of frequently in transit). Due to that, just randomly pressing it might be a dps loss. Also had my pet randomly stop using claw tonight - had to dismiss and resummon him even though he would run up and auto mobs.
Lock and load trap placement is annoying - why would it fire at your target!? Instead, you have to aim it just right⌠but your max range is 41 yards, the trap is 35⌠or oh damn you missed a proc because the tank moved slightly. Then, you run into these odd situations where you have a double aimed you could immediately lock and load or a chimera coming up in 3s. Thereâs some math about the timing and when one is better than the other. Itâs probably insignificant but due to the way sniper training works, that instant aimed shot isnât always up - do you take advantage? Then the natural sequence of you moving and your traps get out of order with your CDs for a rotation or two which just feels a little bad.
Itâs pretty fun when everything is working well⌠but some of these fights have so much movement that it becomes more of a chore to play. Eranikus honestly becomes a nightmare and I donât enjoy that fight at all. Also, the fact one of our traps makes seeing anything a nightmare doesnât make the raid particularly happy either.
Other than trap launcher, most of our runes just suck. Theyâre boring. Theyâre % tweaks or poor attempts at making us do something we arenât supposed to (i.e. melee hunter). Even chimaera just feels like arcane shot on steroids. Iâm hoping thereâs more left in the chamber for us⌠but based on the runes they have given us already it seems the designers donât really know what they want to do. Add in that, assuming LNL and Chimaera are part of our rotation, there already 5 spells in our rotation. 2 of which are aimed.
You can use freezing trap. Eveb if the target is immune it procs LnL.
Otherwise i 100% agree with what you said.
Most of the difficulty of the MM reotation is just from everything being tied together with clunky mechanics.
Fire trap
Frost trap
Aimed shot
Chimera shot (serpent sting application)
Multi shot
Focus fire
6 buttons not including rare use like serpent sting and rapid fire (or grenades or other on use items).
bruh you donât even know frost mage rotation, itâs so hard dude. FFB to maintain winters chill stacks, keeping track of deep freeze CD and LB timers to not eat FoF, paying attention to spell-batching and queuing in order to make the most use out of deep freeze, positioning and movement are more important than sniper training, because you lose up to 3s of ALL your dps uptime if you have to move, not clipping LB, making efficient use of your mana gems and OH mana restore items(The latter takes a GCD) in order to not run OOM mid-fight, knowing kill times well enough to know exactly how many evoc ticks you need to complete a fight for full DPS uptime, multi-dotting LB, keeping track of the fire magesâ scorch stacks and duration, keeping track of all SP procs to line up with Icy Veins, and when to use cold snap for a 2nd icy veins, itâs way harder than MM hunter!
Oh wait, no frost mage has one of the easiest rotations in SoD right now, and going into detail about all the stuff you have to track just makes it sound a lot more difficult than it is. Iâm not gonna let a 50 parse hunter tell me about how hard their rotation is.
Preaching to the choir. However, Iâd argue that knowing whatâs best in a given situation is just part of knowing your class, and things that are legitimately skill based are (In my opinion) good for a class or spec. The only real deep experience I have is with Wotlk Spriest, but the difference between an 85 parse, or a 99 parse is how good you are at minimizing the downtime between dot fall-off and dot application, or the very last tick of a mind flay and the first tick of the next (Since it doesnât queue into itself). The rotation itself is simple on paper, but making it work for you to a high level is difficult. I donât think thatâs really a bad thing though, or a thing to complain about, itâs just something to separate really good hunters from everyone else.
