Yes, but you could also say that you’re “being forced” to do anything in the game that has any reward you’re interested in behind it. I find when people use that term it’s equally pointless on either side of the argument.

Nobody is complaining about the existence of plunderstorm anymore than they are complaining about the existence of fortnite but if I had to play hundreds of matches of fortnite to get rewards in WoW then I would surely be complaining. There is a difference between adding a new game mode and adding a game mode that has FOMO. Don’t make it FOMO, I don’t like PVP in WoW but 20 years later I can still do AB, grind out defilers rep and get every transmog from them that I would like.
And note that HOTS is a dead game.
I had to win 100 hearthstone matches to get a mount in HoTS. That was a brutal grind for me as somone who doesn’t play card games. I had to win 5 games in HoTS to get a mount in WoW. That one was easier.

You seem to be forgetting the massive backlash all of these obscene requirement cross play things have caused.
It’s clear why they kept it secret. It was because they knew there was going to be backlash. Yet they did it anyway. So no crying about the backlash they already knew was coming.

Not only is your comparison ridiculous, you clearly haven’t played or watched the game if you think there is no power.
You had to do a bunch of things in wow to receive a wow reward. That’s fine. The new rewards are in wow but you have to play a completely different game and different genre to get those rewards.
This isn’t the gotcha you think it is.
it’s not patch-worthy content, it’s not wow content at all. it’s a separate game with wow skins. plus it’s temporary. i’m just gonna wait til the rewards are inevitably on trading post

40 to 60 hours? Bro I am at level 28 with not even a fraction of that time played.
The reason I have seen why people hate it is because they don’t want to PvP in a battle royal that gives them the option not too and just farm plunder from chests and mobs.
Or people could just stop being losers and kill a player who’s total amount of plunder is DOUBLED on death and you end up getting 1500 plunder to 3800 plunder a match.
If it was:
a) Using my character, with my abilities and the same controls as wow (plunderstorm’s controls just feel wrong to me. I can’t effectively move the way I want to and I didn’t see options to remap keys, and it’s an unfamiliar “vehicle combat without the vehicle” system in general)
and
b) Wasn’t a limited time event so I could work on it slowly as my patience allows.
I wouldn’t despise it as much as I currently do. I would tolerate it as an additional aspect of WoW that I could completely ignore once the pain of grinding the renown was over. But if it was a permanent part of WoW, Blizzard would probably feel the need to keep adding to the renown track which I would hate.
Plunderstorm is not a system I find fun. Transmog is something I DO find fun, but the Plunderstorm mogs are just not something I can reasonably acquire because I can’t stomach the gameplay for the time it would take to get them all within the limited time frame of the event.
I tried doing /pvp off and it didnt work. How do you opt out of pvp in this mode?
Your being disingenuous on one point, PVP isnt optional, if it was ppl that just want to PVE wouldnt be getting killed with seconds of landing
The reason is because this was advertised as a wow patch but doesn’t update or change anything in wow. It was a secret separate game that was falsely advertised as a wow patch.
Or Blizzard could have not put wow rewards in this separate game that isn’t wow.

My point was that most people are only complaining because it’s pvp. If this new game or whatever it is was all pve, barely anyone would be saying anything.
I’m not you can drop kill mobs and avoid players YOU don’t have too. You gain plunder from killing mobs and chest BUT if you want to rank up fast killing players is the best. If you kill players their total plunder is DOUBLED.
