I’d like people’s opinions on if it’s ok to need on demonic runes.
Generally my experience has been that everyone greeds, even warriors & rogues, I guess to vendor them.
Last night in a DM group I asked if I can need, explaining that I was saving them for my robes of the void. I said if anyone objects I’m happy to greed, and anyone else that needs for raids can need as well,. The group said it was ok, but i felt off about it, as I was the only one needing, and I’m usually not fond of reserve groups.
It’s main use is a few patterns mainly for locks, such as felcloth patterns and robes of the void, and is useful for any caster in a raid setting as well. But imo it clearly benifits a tailor warlock more then most.
If I were a engi/bs I wouldn’t roll need on say aquamarine or a black diamond, but the demonic runes are a lot more niche
What are your opinions on this?
Was I in the wrong to ask to need?
Edit: the group was 2 warrs, a feral Druid, and a priest, none of whom cared, but it felt wrong asking to need for profession Matts, even if they were BoP
They said they’re okay with you rolling need. Don’t second guess that, take it at face value. It’s up to them to actually say something if they feel otherwise.
Yeah if anyone had a problem with you needing them it’s up to them to say something. You are actually using them for something so I believe you did the correct thing etiquette wise - especially since they are BoP.
If it’s the soulbound type that vendors for 6s, don’t hesitate to need if you need.
If it’s the unbound type that can go for 3-5g on the AH, it’s a different discussion.
I always pass on them because I can’t use them anyway and vendoring it seems unethical to me since there are casters in the group that can definitely benefit from them.
Now the other rune that is not BOP I greed on as they sell for like 3g on my server.
But it wasn’t a reserve group. It was you needing them for your class-specific BoP tailored robe when everyone else there would have just vendored them. 100% the system working as it’s designed and it sounds like the only person in the group who didn’t see it that way was, ironically, you.
Rolling on an aquamarine would be different because so many professions use them, and for BoE things.
i think those who need them (like healers) should just go ahead and roll need. i know from experience that most people will just absentmindedly roll greed when a green item drops not knowing what it is. I have done it (feral tank) and i have seen rogues and warriors do it to. if anyone complains tell them what they are and that they are BOP.
Here is my advice, roll need but tell everyone you are going to roll need. If anyone actually intends to use them roll need also. I can tell you that I personally roll greed on those but I really dont want them. The vendor price is garbage and I basically hit greed to get the loot window out of my face, so if anyone wanted to actually use them I would have zero problem with them rolling need.
Ask the grp, and explain what you need it for. I so far have had no grps having issue with me doing this as long as I asked, and explained it before I rolled Need. I found that treating & respecting the other people in your group as people tends to work well. Communication is key, and you shouldn’t feel bad for anything as long as it is communicated and agreed upon by all parties.
Long ago I needed frayed abdominal stitchings or whatever they are called for some quest for gear on my druid and told everyone why I would be needing them, which sometimes led to people who had no clue what they could use them for starting to need too, but them are the breaks.
I say the best bet is to offer to buy them off people for a fair price, maybe a bit above vendor. That way everyone wins.
If people want to give them to you then that’s good too.
Edit:
Oh wait, are these the BOP ones? I know there’s two different runes that are similar, one BOE and one BOP. Yeah then tell people you need them ahead of time and roll need on them.
