Needing Blue Clarification on upcoming Pet Battling

So from everything that we have been reading, it seems you are removing pet battling and only making them as cosmetic options… cage automatically by just throwing a cage and you then have a pet next to you… no battling …

Please clarify if this is true. If it is true… I think you are going in the wrong direction with this.

I totally agree also. I’ve been hearing the reason to take it out is because only some play battling pets. Well may I also say, only some folks fish, only some folks PVP. Some folks have raised thousands of pets to 25, we look forward to the new pets we can catch and raise to 25 each expansion. You are removing the game inside WoW that entertain the heck out of us. Most of us are OCD in collecting the pets. Our hearts will be broken. Please reconsider.

My argument exactly.

It’s a very slippery slope to start removing things just because only a small % of people do it. Even if people don’t pet battle, EVERYONE should be concerned about this.

They literally just put out a video where they talked about how they’re working on getting battle pets working inside of player housing so you can let your critters roam, I don’t understand why they’d just not bother with battles going forward. They’re good world quest content, the pet battle dungeons are a solid addition to the world content, it’s been around longer than a lot of players, this feels like a big misstep if they’re just not going to add new content for pet battles. I mean it’s not like they can’t just crib moves from the vast swathes of pets already available.

They may say, for now “it’s only like this and we’re still giving you that.” But by last titan they will give nothing at all. It’s a whittling away at the battle system till it’s support is 0%.

Even if it isn’t the wrong direction from their perspective, it’s mealy and unprofessional and dishonest to let it just hang out in the aether without clarification.

I’m so sick of all the lying they’ve done in the runup. Two weeks ago, I was SO excited for this expansion.

Now, I’m seriously considering leaving the game for good…for the first time since 2005.

  • They lied about not breaking non-combat addons
  • They dropped all of these bombs about gameplay and pruning AFTER pre-orders (and the highest package included the battle pets, which is the only reason I always buy that one).
  • They are being obfuscatory and intentionally vague about what’s happening with battle pets.

Put it in the notes. Communicate about it. Tell the truth. These are not difficult things.

I actually submitted a request to refund my pre-order because of this.

Their decision to gut pet battling because “not enough people do it” tells me that they don’t want pet battler money. So I’m happy to take mine back.

Indeed.

I didn’t take a stand then because it didn’t affect me. I foolishly never thought that pet battling would ever be at risk. How dumb I was.

Can anyone in alpha (or who knows someone in alpha) confirm that this behaviour is even real. All this news coming from a single story is starting to deeply bother me.

I’ve test it in Alpha and yes, the capture changes to new Midnight wild pets are real. Note that the changes on capturing only impacts the new wild pets of Midnight, and existing, older wild battle pets remain unchanged atm. I tried it in revamped Eversong Woods (new click to capture system), and in Westfall (current battling/capture system).

Existing Trainer NPCs and quests continue to exist, as do their battles, however no new battling content in the new Midnight zones has been implemented so far that we know of.

Before you read anything sensational, I’ll give some context to the Ion statement.

  2. Bears asked about Pet Battle Dungeons, to which Hazzikostas said no current plans for Pet Dungeons in Midnight
  3. Hazzikostas then mentioned the updated wild pet capture system, where you simply click to capture. He also noted (as paraphrased by Bears) “…the actual battling part of it [wild pet encounters] won’t be in Midnight(…)”
  4. His reasoning behind the wild pet change is low engagement in wild pet battling

Edit: Regardless of what Ion said and the wild pet changes, I would very much appreciate a statement from Blizzard explaining their future plans for Pet Battles.

  • Will new Pet Battle content be included in Midnight at launch? After launch?
  • Will there be continued support for the Pet Battle system/feature in the future?
  • Are there any other changes or updates coming to Pet Battles in Midnight? (because the wild pet change pretty much blindsided all of the Pet Battling community, it would be helpful to get a headsup)

K’aresh isn’t the only smaller zones added though out the game that don’t have Pets to battle or collect now…there are other zones…usually its been the last zones added a an expansion where there are no wild pets to Battle and catch…

I see a lot of wild pet battling out there. Hell, I’m out there all the time…that’s how I level my collection.

Timeless isle, isle of thunder are just some of them off top of my head…Yes Timeless had drops of battle pets off rares but no wilds to battle and catch…add in the new Zone …K’aresh has wild critters lvl 1 but we can not catch them.

Korthia his had a tonne of battlepets you could catch.

I never played MOP to much when it was live so couldn’t comment on that but I believe every zone from WOD up until Karesh had live battlepets.

Edit: Excluding Ashran maybe?
