Need your opinions - A guide to wow for new players

Hi all, I just want to give some context for that headline. I had started playing WoW near the tail end of Legion. I rolled a Tauren Shaman named Blackbessie and thoroughly enjoyed healing through the raids, especially Emerald Dream. I didn’t get to unlock a lot of my legendary’s skins solely because there wasn’t enough time to do it before BFA.
Fast forward to today, I’ve rolled an alliance warlock and had recently come back from a 6 month or-so hiatus from the game. I’d found a loving new guild who feels like family, and switched factions to horde. I took up an interest in PvP and RP since I was on Emerald Dream, and realize that I am missing out on a LOT of old content and don’t know where to start to explore.
Some of the RP community had shown me some cool pieces of lore, and it’s really piqued my interest… I don’t think this old content should be neglected.

So my question for you all… Where is a good place to start? Where was your favorite/zone/character/storyline?

Example: the throne room where Arthas killed his father. That was cool, I cranked the ambient music up to hear the whispers of them talking from the cinematic.

EDIT: I’m not talking about levelling. I would like to go to these places on my 120 Warlock

IF your leveling another toon from scratch about all you can do is buy as much heirloom gear as you feel you can afford so you earn more xp. Far as where to go with scaling it don’t really matter. Zones in vanilla I like to try and hit personally would be:

Horde:
Hillsbrad, Western/Eastern Plaguelands, Tanaris,

Alliance:
Duskwood, Plaguelands, Tanaris, Bloodmyst Isle.

It might have changed but I think you can put warmode on Bloodmyst isle and horde can’t get there. Even if they can your pretty unlikely to see them there.

I’m sorry, I should have put that in there. I mean in a non-levelling sense. I’d like to just gon on my 120 and explore that way?

The Darrowshire questline in Eastern Plaguelands is one of the best in the game. Unfortunately they neutered it in the Cata overhaul and it’s not nearly as much of a world-spanning epic as it used to be, and it’s climax is now faceroll instead of a “group 100% necessary” finale, but it’s still worth seeing. Not sure where it starts or if its an Alliance only thing or anything silly like that. It’s been awhile, try looking it up on WoWhead.

Song about it:

I’d also recommend just rolling a Draenei and doing Azuremyst+Bloodmyst. It’s BC content so it’s a bit tedious compared to modern zones and TBH I don’t remember too terribly much, but I remember it wraps up nicely. You get a tabard and such. (Also I just really really REALLY prefer the way Draenei were portrayed in their starting zones, the kinda scrappy survivalist thing rather than the full blown magic/light worshipers they’re allowed to be when they’re properly on their feet).

There is literally a section of this forum with guides for new players.

Not an answer to your question, but if you find the lore interesting there is a guy on youtube w/ an accent i haven’t placed yet called Nobell87. He does really good lore videos.

I like to put them on in the background when I am on my own at work.

I take it you only read the title… but thanks for the link anyways. it’ll at least help people that haven’t played the game before.

No, I skimmed your post too - just reread it still looks like you are a new player asking for information. If you want to consider yourself a ‘returning’ player there is a section of the forum for that too.

It’s pretty clear they’re asking where they can find interesting locations and bits of storytelling, not just asking “how do play game?” The latter belongs in the new and returning player forums, not this.

There are people in that new player section who answer these types of things.

One of my favorite spots is a Goblin town on the east coast of the Badlands where they have mechanical sheep as a defense. Also, Badlands is just a great place to quest since its revamp in Cata. There are all sorts of lore quests concerning Titan structures under the sand, Deathwing, ogres, and goblins.

The dwarf/gnome starting zones are great too, like the broken dam (wish they’d fix it. It was very aesthetic).

Wrathgate in Northrend, after completing the questline in Dragonblight. It offers the greatest in-game cinematic ever made.

Just go for Loremaster, if you don’t already have it. You’ll find all the lore locations you’ll ever need.

You’re being very stick-up-butt about this. It’s also a question that can benefit anyone, as most people don’t explore the entire world and do every quest. Hence, General Discussion.

There are people here who can help him/her as well.

@ OP I 2nd the Darrowshire questline. It starts in Eastern Plaguelands and I think it’s for both factions since the quest giver was neutral (if I’m remembering correctly).

For bit of fun do the Day Deathwing Came quest in Badlands - they’re a hoot. There’s similar quest in BfA in Drustvar but not as good.

Maximillian of Northshire quests in Un’Goro are fun too.

I personally liked Uldum’s homage to Indiana Jones but it’s not for everyone. You may get tired of looking at sand after awhile  I actually liked the whole zone’s theme.

There’s some neat spots like the faerie dragon ring in Tirisfal (western part), Vash’jir is a beautiful zone if you like underwater exploring (combat can be weird tho but at 120 you’ll 1 shot everything anyway), there’s little farms tucked away all over the place, hot springs run by goblins in southern Feralas, Pleasure Palace in Azshara, etc.

Have fun!

EDIT: Visit the Isle of Quel’Danas if you haven’t already. It has a dungeon and raid as well as dailies for Shattered Sun Offensive. There’s a portal from Shattrath City (Outland version) and flight path there from Silvermoon on Horde side and Ironforge on Alliance side and 2 neutral ones - Light’s Hope Chapel in the Eastern Plaguelands and Hatchet Hills (by Zul’Aman) in the Ghostlands.

New players benefit from that section. Not sure what you have against it but it is a whatever.

Some of my favorite zones are… (story quest wise anyways)

-the Eastern Plaguelands (Paladin Pals story was fun)

-Redridge Mountains (Cant help but hear “the boys are back in town” song in my head every time doing the story with Keeshan)

-Westfall (The story had more meaning on my Rogue since Vanessa VanCleef appeared later on in Legion for him, also helps to do the Heroic Deadmines dungeon first before Legion)

-The Cape of Stranglethorn (At least the part where it involves pirates, those quest were a bit fun)

Favorite place for me is my Garrison, I like building it up and trying to get all my champions (or at least most) to be gnomes for this character, doing invasions is fun watching my gnome soldiers go at it lol.
