Need To Buy A Data Transfer Cable

I bought a cheapie from amazon, but it did nothing and it was supposed to be plug and play, Any recommendations for one that works?

Thanks

how much data needs to be moved? i think buying a usb drive and copying the users folder would be easier

Being “up in years” (73) and dealing with short-term memory loss, I need to KISS it. (KISS=Keep It Simple Stupid). As far as how much data - a lot, such as photographs, music and other docs - need to be saved. I have heard of folks using the usb drives and it sounds easy, but believe me, if there’s a way to screw something up, I will find it.

IMHO, backing data up to some type of external USB storage is a far more simple process than transferring data between two computers. I’m older as well and have absolutely no problem dragging and dropping files/folders from my PC to a USB drive. There are large thumb drives and also external storage drives. All of them you simply plug in and Windows recognizes them with no input from the user. I wouldn’t even know how to begin copying files from one PC to the other.

I agree with the post above.

a lot of the data transfer cables needs proprietary software which is another monkey by itself. meanwhile to copy folders is done within windows explorer itself

Thanks, Earthie and Heff for your replies. The reason I asked about a cable is that I had experience with one about 18 years ago and it went very well. I do not remember if it had software or not, but I do remember the cord and the “control” in its center.

My short-term (cognitive) memory problem is such that the more steps I have to follow to get a thing done, the more apt I am to forget something. I did something like that yesterday and had to reset this rig from the cloud. I got it reset, but not without already losing some files which weren’t put back - but luckily were listed, so I can trace them back.

Thanks, you two. I really appreciate your taking the time to write me back and help me out.
