Hi all, so I seem to be having an issue retaining and keeping my soul shards up, and my imps up during m+ keys. I didn’t notice it much at lower keys but as i’m pushing into higher key levels i’m noticing it a lot more. For some reason my imps will seemingly cap out at 8-9, and will despawn if I summon more, Then ontop of that, My soul shards with demonic core is not procing very often. I see a lot of demo locks that can have 15 and even 20 imps out. Am I doing something wrong? I want to learn more so I can improve but,
To be fair i’m a very average player but wanting to improve so any feedback is appreciated!
Are you using a weak aura to track your imps? Sometimes there can be more than what’s initially visible because the imps can stack on top of each other. It’s also good to use a tracker to know when to implode them.
Also make sure you’re using call dreadstalkers and power siphon on CD as the dreadstalkers generate demonbolt procs when they expire and power siphon gives another 2.
admittedly I’ve never set up weakauras before, is it difficult?
Nope, super easy. Just download the addon and you can import other people’s weakauras as your own.
You can look at Kalamazi and take the ones he uses (just google Kalamazi weak auras and click on the wago io link).

Okay so, I got it installed and all that, It has helped SIGNIFICANTLY seeing how many imps I have at any given time. I also learned dreadstalkers when they vanish give me demonic core so that’s really good to know. Lots of learning ^^ Should I do implode at 6 imps or more?

At max level, imps will have enough energy to cast 6 times before despawning. Your goal with Implosion is to cram as many imps as possible into that single GCD without letting any of them expire. 6 at minimum, but more is possible.
To address shard usage and cores:
Maximum of 4 Demonic Cores
Dreadstalkers each grant 1 core on expiration, ~3 every 20s period
Imps have a 10% chance on expiration/Implosion to grant 1 core
Don’t let cores go to waste, and don’t sit on Dreadstalkers. Use Power Siphon to gain cores only when you are out to avoid overages.

I typically capp out at 12ish imps if everything goes well. If you tyrant at 12 you will go up to 24 typically. As for demonbolt procs dreadstalker on cd. Power syphon helps. And of course there a chance when imps expire to get some too.
Your talent Imp Gang Boss makes it so every imp you summon has a 30% chance to be an Imp Gang Boss, which does more damage. When an Imp Gang Boss is imploded it will always summon back another imp. The trick is that the refunded imp also has a 30% chance to be an Imp Gang Boss. If you’re doing a correct Implosion rotation as addressed by the other warlocks in the thread, this talent will contribute to improving your overall number of imps.
Aside from the above which is your standard aoe rotation, you should be setting up for Tyrant cycles. You have a talent called Grand Warlocks Design which makes your Tyrant’s cooldown come back faster (0.6 sec per every soul shard you use).
Do not be afraid to use your Tyrant pretty much on CD (There are times to hold it, you’ll feel it out as you play more). It comes back so quick though. If you do a proper Tyrant setup you’ll have a literal army of pets by the end of its duration.
Oh I see, I’ve been holding off on using it because of that “Well what about the boss?” that’s good to know!
With the GWD talent you should be looking at somewhere around a 45 sec cd assuming you guys keep pulling.
But never be afraid to use cds on trash in keys. Especially on fortified week where mobs are the biggest issue. Learning the layout of the dungeons and practicing your cooldowns is huge!
Here is my typical pull rotation.
Ill open with grimoire felguard, dogs, power siphon, demonbolt, demonbolt, hand of guldan, tyrant, demonic strength, hand of guldan, hand of guldan, dogs AGAIN, So you should have 6 dogs out, and then implode once tyrant wears off.
Here are some tips, for single target never implode unless the mob is dying or your imps are about to wear off.
Imploding around 9 imps is the minimum, but also usually the average number of imps you will ever have. This is because by the time you do your 3rd hand of guldan, which should bring out your 7th, 8th, and 9th imp, the first 3 from the first hand of guldan are about to wear off, so implode around 9 imps in a typical trash pull.
Never demonic strength without the tyrant out. Tyrant buffs demonic stregnth and with grand warlocks design, they should both be available about the same time off CD.
Lastly, always/only implode imps shortly after dogs so the dread bite debuff buffs imp implode damage
Don’t think about the # of imps too much. On single target, don’t implode. On 2+ targets, you want to implode when the imps are down to 1 cast remaining before they expire (the tracker should tell you how many casts they have left). That way you get the most value out of the imps. You can also implode earlier if the trash packs are about to die.
Pretty much only holding it on the last pack right before a boss pull, unless you think that pack is going to survive longer than a minute.
