Need some healing tips

I’m trying to make disc work but I’m having an issue where my heals just don’t do anything. Someone will be at 50% hp I’ll hit them with penance into a 100k shield and they just fall over dead.

Or a rogue will shadowy duel my dps and 100-0 them in under 1 second.

I know that disc can put out damage with atonements but I have 3 purges on 3 people but if I stop to mind blast or smite a single time someone on my team dies.

Outside of rapture I cannot keep anyone alive. Can anyone give me some disc tips please?

#1 TIP: ALWAYS have shields on your dps. Pressing it on cd will help mitigate so much damage throughout a match

Use pain supp/barrier at high hp so it gets more value

Rapture is good if someone is low, and/or multiple people are taking damage (and barrier isn’t a good option at that time). Sometimes you’ll need both rapture and one of your other CDs if things are going particularly poorly

Attonement healing is more of a bonus than something you should necessarily be focusing on. Definitely make sure you’re you’re keeping attonement up on everyone with power word: shield and renew, since ot makes your heals and shields stronger via your mastery

You generally want to use the periods you have barrier or pain supp going to help do damage or go for cc, if the other healer is out of position and falling behind. I usually just try to keep purge the wicked up, penance enemies generally, shield, then do schism + 2x mind blast before going back to the first couple of things. I don’t smite very often unless there’s really nothing else to do.

As for duel, you have a few options:
-put barrier on DPS since it still works
-target yourself with PW: Radiance near the dueled DPS, since the aoe component will hit them
-fear if you are standing on top of the DPS, since I believe it should still hit the rogue.

Otherwise, unless you can pre-pain supp the dps, they’ll have to press their own trinket/defensive/cc and save themselves.

Losing last season’s tier has really made shields feel pretty weak at some points in the game, but they definitely still put in most of the work as long as you penance before them whenever you can.

Oh, also: make sure you use your free flash heal procs, they are lifesavers (literally). I’m sure someone else will point out anything I’m missing, but if you have any more questions I will do my best to answer :>

Well damn. In SL people made fun of Priests for atonement not being their top heal. I’ve just been playing hyper aggro and doing as much damage as possible. Sincerely a helpful breakdown, nice post.

ty! It’s definitely still possible for attonement to be top healing from what I’ve seen, although that’s generally when the priest is machine gunning the entire match and basically never has to stop and actually recover. I also think that’s largely in 2s, although I haven’t done much shuffle on my priest this season

I appreciate the write up. Just went up against a destro/enh and they 100-0’d my boomy with pain sup on him and shield with penance going out.

Should I reroll to haste over mastery?

Edit: is renew worth using?

Yeah that sounds right. Both overtuned, not sure exactly what happened ofc, but your boomy/team probably would have needed to line the destro (or cc), and then cc the shaman to stop their burst. Ascendance and fully stacked lava lash can both decimate people through multiple defensive CDs (as you saw), so that may not have been on you at that point - especially with bolts flying too

I think this is more of a preference thing, but I’m not a top player or theorycrafter, so someone else may have a more definitive answer.

I played full haste last season, but without my tier set, I started switching to mastery lately and find I enjoy the bump. Depending on the tuning of disc, haste can definitely feel like you’re just going through your mana quicker, but it’s better for damage and obviously just makes for faster globals and a (potentially) smoother rotation.

If you’re not enjoying running mastery, then def feel free to change it, but I don’t personally think one is objectively better than the other

Definitely. It adds up to a lot of healing over the course of the game, applies attonement, and reduces the cd of PW: shield.

If you’re in a really desperate spot (usually trying to avoid a kick, but even if your DPS are just eating it regardless), you can spam renew repeatedly to get more shields out and keep yourself (or your team) alive a bit longer. It’s not super mana efficient to do that, but disc mana is a lot better than this season and as long as you only rely on it in a pinch it’s fine to do.

Edit: one more thing, I recommend using shadowfiend semi-early (like when the first go of the match happens, whether it’s your DPS or theirs) so you have a second one if the match drags on for some reason.

thats all you gotta worry about(besides power word solace) . mind blasting is a luxary

save dome for this situation

if they died taht fast that means they were getting cooldowns popped on them which you should have used pain supp or dome or raputre or gripped them across the map to safety or void shifted . Until you go oom, you should have always have an answer for enemy big damage

penance isnt really your main big heal its usually to just buff your pws to become massive. Radiance, power word life, or flash heal is what actually tops people

Tonight for instance I just tried to keep PWS and renew on Jim at all times and hammer damage into the kill target to atonement heal and create the biggest damage gap I could, while using free flashes/flashing if I fell behind. (Using big CDs when big damage was going out).

I also only use PW Life if it flashes to signify low health. Big goes when health is dropping fast I stack a rapture and pain suppression.

Any of that sound mildly correct?

Yep, sounds right to me!
