Need some directions

i’m currently attempting to walk from stormwind, alllll the way up to the ghostlands (specifically, zul’aman) but i’m having a little issue figuring out where to head after i get to searing gorge. do i head north through dustfire valley, or east through thorium advance?

i’m currently about to enter blackrock mountain, so… still got a bit of walking to do, but i’m a little confused which direction to take, since i can see the cataclysm crack at the top of the map. makes it difficult to figure-out how i’m supposed to get across there without flying…

so, which way do i go?

edit: just exited blackrock mountain into searing gorge now. still not quite sure where to go from here…

edit-edit: thanks for the help you guys! was really confused where to go for a bit there. i’ve now just exited out into the badlands, if any of you see me wanderin around, don’t be afraid to throw me a wave!
…oh wait… chromie time exists… aw… ah well. thanks gang!

edit-edit-edit: i have now climb down and up through a dark-dirt path into loch modan from badlands, gonna take a bathroom break in thelsamar, then back to the long walk north. man… it has definitely been a hot-minute since i last travelled by foot in the old world… or… by walking-speed-on-the-back-of-a-mount, across the old-world.

edit x4: in wetlands, used my bouncy racial as a shortcut down the mountainside, now on the road north.

edit x5: most of the way through arathi now. so… slowly making my way!

edit #6: uh… do i go through to the hinterlands, or hillsbrad foothills… i know hillsbrad is a big, horde-y area, but uh… i’m alliance so…

edit 7: in hillsbrad, tottering my way past durnholde keep, just about at eastpoint tower… atleast, according to the map, but i don’t see it. ah well. goodness do i hope the road near tarren mill is far enough i don’t tick-off the forsaken guards when i get there.
…aaand there’s forsaken encampment right in the middle of the road. god-dangit…

edit 8: tarren mill road? far enough i did’nt need to worry. eastpoint tower was what caught me off-guard. almost up to the ruins of alterac.

edit 9: at chillwind in western plaguelands! making good progress!
also, considering i started at like… 5:30 - 5:45-ish, and it’s almost 9, i’m making good progress.

edit 10: abour ro cross the bridge into eastern plaguelands! :+1:

edit 11: gonna take the longer way around eastern plaguelands… mostly cause i don’t think the ziggurat shortcut is that-much shorter.

edit 12: marchin past northpass tower! almost at the entrance to the ghostlands!
thinkin i might try doing this from tanaris, to winterspring next! :stuck_out_tongue: …after some sleep, of course.

edit 13: in the ghostlands now, gonna stop, boil some water, and make some ramen. before the final march.

edit 14: right next to the blood elf settlement. can’t remember what it’s called, but i’m pretty-sure it’s not tranquillen, but the other one. just down the road from zul’aman!

edit 15, final edit: i made it! took me about… almost 5 hours, but i made it. walked from the heroes-call board in the trade district of stormwind, all the way to the entrance of zul’aman in the ghostlands!

and to all you kind folks who helped me out with directions along the way… thanks! you made this a lot less tedious for me.

I’m pretty sure you’ll want to turn right after Blackrock Mountain, take the pass into the Badlands then north past Uldaman into Loch Mordan?

From Searing Gorge, you have to head northeast to Loch Modan, then thru there down to wetlands, north and a bit east to Arathi, then west to Hillsbrad. At the river past the wall, follow it north to the lake, then around the east side into Eastern Plaguelands. When you get to the north side of EP, you’ll see an instance swirl.

ok, so… i take the path into badlands then? the thorium advance one, on east of searing-gorge?

well, that makes me wonder what stonewrought pass leads to… i mean, the area directly north is dun morogh, so… hmm… i guess i do have to go into the badlands.

…especially since i don’t see any exits for stonewrought pass up there.

still, thanks guys, i was a little confused for a bit there! you saved me possibly a couple hours of time on travel.

It used to lead to Loch Mordan, but I keep forgetting if it’s still open post-Cataclysm - for some reason I keep thinking it’s sealed off now, but that might just be something my imagination invented. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on foot in that area.

( edit: not only is the passage indeed open, one can, if very careful, dragonride down through the entire length of the tunnel without touching the ground! )

mmm… well, i took the other way. and am slowly, slowly meandering through the badlands. halfway to angor fortress, which i’ll obviously circumvent…assuming it’s a horde base… though based on what i see, it might be dwarven.

scratch-that, it’s a dwarven hold. but uh… hostile dark-iron, hold.

Yeah, you’re gonna wanna take I-65 South for about 20 miles. After that, you should see signs for Alliance Expressway, so get off going West. After around another 5 miles or so, you should start seeing Stormwind exit signs. I recommend Exit 7, Stormwind Parkway which will take you around to the Dwarven District so you can avoid all that traffic from Trade District.

If you start seeing signs saying Westfall, turn around, you went too far.

Why walk instead of flying?

You go have to go into Hillsbrad. You can either take the path behind the castle into Hinterlands and follow that path into Western Plague lands or once you get to the river follow it toward the Western Plague lands. By going to the river, you cut off the Hinterlands altogether.

Gotta say, I find this a rather cool project. You should have an appropriate tune to sing:

and i blame a specific WoW youtuber for turning me on to these songs from one of his WoW series.

wait, so which is it? hillsbrad, or hinterlands? cause i’m standing at the crossroads leading to the paths to boulder’gor, and Galen’s fall, and have no idea which is the best option to take…

also, the hillsbrad road goes right next to tarren mill, and i’d rather keep my distance from horde settlements.

Probably the best reason. Several times, I’ve done things just for personal challenge reasons. I know I won’t get any achievement, recognition, or glory. It’s just something fun to do just to see if I can.

Next challenge… once you reach Ghostlands, walk to Booty Bay!

Quick question: are you really walking, or using the default toon trot? If the former, than I marvel at your tenacity.

former, but i’m on a mount. so… walking, but with a mount. took me around 2 hours to get to wetlands, and am now marching across arathi.
…i’d be further along, but i stopped for a food break.
also to attempt to plot-out my route.

also, my mount is my spinemaw gladechewer. one of the big-bugs from ardenweald. feel like it’d make a great caravan-mount.

Take the road from the gate out of Arathi Highlands. Follow that to the bridge, and then follow the river North into Westerland Plague lands. That is the safest route and dumps you Southeast of Scholomance. If instead when you get to Durnhorde Keep on your right there is a pathway behind that that will take you into the Hinterlands, but then you follow that path past the Alliance encampment into Western Plague lands and it dumps you South of Scholmance.

Both paths get you to Western Plague lands, just one you go off the road and follow the river and eliminate walking through additional territory. One has a place to potty however if you go through the Hinterlands.

If you must stick to the road however than you will need to travel along the road Westward after the bridge and take the right fork and past Tarren Mill on your right up toward the Ruins of Altec. Take the right fork and head past Strahnbrad into the Western Plague lands. This will dump you out near Chillwind Camp another place I believe to take a potty break.

From there you have no choice but to circumvent Andorhal because that is contested territory of undead and Horde. The only safer path would be going Westward toward Silverpine Forest then into Tirisfal Falls and just follow the path to Western Plague lands. This will add distance and be safer as the undead don’t patroll the road all that much, but the only problem is the gate in Hillsbrad Foothills by Southpoint Gate.

well, i’ve already slow-marched my way to the gate to hillsbrad, so… kinda locked-into my choice. here’s hopin i don’t accidentally tick-off the forsaken npcs!

…aaand there’s forsaken encampment right in the middle of the road. god-dangit…

I assume that would be Eastpoint Tower which is near the keep. Sorry forgot about that one in my updated directions above. But you had to go into Hillsbrad Foothills regardless on a foot trek to Ghostlands.
